Baal HaSulam. The Freedom
Part 3:
Baal HaSulam. The Freedom. (The Will to Receive—Existence from Absence)
Reading (00:18) The Will to Receive—Existence from Absence
1. S. (03:18) In the paragraph before he tried to explain the connection between spiritual and corporeal, he was speaking about how a corporeal atom can have something spiritual in it. And here he is saying that spiritual and corporeal is the will to receive, that is the answer of The Wisdom of Kabbalah to the connection between spiritual and corporeal? I don’t understand how we came to this excerpt from the question he asked in the previous one?
R. What did he ask there?
S. He asked, how could a spiritual object move a corporeal atom? And at the end of this item he’s saying that actually the spiritual and corporeal it’s all the will to receive. So, what’s the answer, the corporeal and spiritual are the same thing, it is the will to receive?
R. From the desires it’s will to receive.
S. So The Wisdom of Kabbalah is saying that there’s no difference between spiritual and corporeal?
R. There is a difference, there is, also on what it activated on and how it responds and how it exists; there’s a difference, but eventually the will to receive is all of the substance of creation.
S. And it’s not the actual material where we call corporeal material, and it’s not spiritual material, it is something else? I cannot understand it, how suddenly from spiritual and corporeal everything is okay, there’s only the will to receive and the question is closed.
R. There is a will to receive: Pleasure, fulfillment in that will to receive. And in this will to receive there is a possibility to want to receive the spiritual and to want to receive the corporeal; these are two different things whatsoever, distant from one end to the other. What else do you want to hear?
S. I want to hear what is the connection between the corporeal atom, because that’s what he was asking. He says how could it be that there is a spiritual essence that will affect the corporeal atom, that is how he started this whole explanation about the will to receive? So how can it be?
R. I don’t know, he does not give an answer on that. He does not answer that.
2. S. (06:27) Maybe we could explain the question: What is he trying to ask here?
R. Read again.
3. S. (06:44) There’s an answer in the next except. He is saying that, everything in this space, still, vegetative, animate, if we want to see the one separated from the other, it’s no more than the will to receive.
4. S. (07:15) According to what I understand it’s not what Baal HaSulam is trying to say, he is trying to tell us that other methods have no explanation to the connection between what they call spiritual and corporeal, and here he’s saying the will to receive is the base to all of creation and this is the key?
R. Correct.
5. S. (07:50) The question was, how the corporeal and spiritual connect, what connection is there between them? Because there’s all kinds of metaphysical explanations and so on, so here he’s saying there’s no question about it, it is all one, the fact that we can’t tell the difference it’s our problem but it’s all one?
R. What is that one?
S. The will to receive.
6. S. (08:24) Baal HaSulam writes that in order to add a step ahead, scientifically, we need the wisdom of Kabbalah. What does The Wisdom of Kabbalah give us that we can add that step ahead?
R. The Wisdom of Kabbalah helps us to exactly locate what the will to receive, the corporeal will to receive is, and the spiritual will to receive? That the spiritual one is the desire in order to bestow; and the corporeal will to receive is the will to receive for itself. That is it.
7. S. (09:19) He is saying twice that there is will to receive and that there is the rest of the matters of creation. What is ‘else’ except for the will to receive?
R. Doesn’t matter what, no matter what, it doesn’t matter anymore. These are qualities.
S. It just seems that everything is the will to receive?
R. All the will to receive and everything else are the qualities of the will to receive.
S. But what are the rest of the things I don’t understand?
R. Let’s say you say, a piece of metal; it has its hardness, its weight, its liquid temperature, vapor temperature etc., and all kinds of qualities in it, but all in all, it’s the same substance.
S. So it’s the will to receive on the still level, what is the rest? Because he says that, ‘the will to receive, existence from absence and other things’?
R. Many qualities are in the will to receive, and that is what’s in it.
S. I will think about it.
8. S. (11:06) Can we say that the science we know from this world researches the corporeal will to receive?
R. The will to receive for itself.
S. That’s the science of this world?
R. Yes.
S. The Wisdom of Kabbalah researchers more developed forms of the will to receive?
R. Yes. Higher than this world.
S. That’s why one is included in the other?
R. Yes.
S. That’s why it says Kabbalah includes all wisdoms?
R. Yes.
Reading twice (11:45) Two forces in the world to receive …
9. S. (14:41) It is not clear why what’s beyond its boundaries becomes against his nature, something he rejects, if it’s outside his boundary so it doesn’t receive it why is it rejected?
R. Is the opposite it feels and receives and works only what he works in his borders that’s called his and what is outside of his borders it is the opposite.
S. That is what I don’t understand. Why is it the opposite? Why is it just not outside the boundary and that’s it?
R. No, he feels as outside of his border and that feeling it’s outside building him and negative response.
S. That’s my question, why is it a negative response?
R. Because it’s outside his borders.
S. Why does it bother and threaten him?
R. Because it works against his will to receive.
S. It’s something he doesn’t want to receive. Why does it bother him, threaten him?
R. Because it works against his will to receive.
S. In which way?
R. It doesn’t work like him.
S. What’s the problem with it?
R. He feels it is something that is foreign and is outside of him and threatens him.
S. Why does everything foreign threaten him?
R. Because he does not feel in him that it’s something of his own.
S. Why is it a threat if it’s nothing of me or him?
R. Because all of nature belongs to one desire. and if there is something that does not come from the same it is already considered contradicting it.
S. Why is the contradiction a threat?
R. Because if you’re not from the same sources I am then you are outside of me you cannot care for me and it turns out that you and I are opposite.
S. It’s still not clear why positiveness becomes a threat?
R. If it clothes on the will to receive, do you understand? What do you care if a few kilometers from you there is someone else who lives and exists and you see how it clothes in you and awakens in you all kinds of calculations and you’re cautious and you’re suspicious.
S. Right, every other person is a potential threat upon me but why is it built in such a way?
R. Because it’s the will to receive to start with; that’s how it feels the others.
S. I understand, I just don’t understand why?
R. Because he feels his limits and beyond these limits there is already a threat.
S. Okay, I still don’t understand.
R. If we are talking about some kind of limits, some kinds of contradictions and something even we already, we have reason to be cautious until we reach hatred and so on. In short, what you can do here is either we reach love or we reach hatred and war. There cannot be anything in the middle, there can’t be anything in the middle, it’s either this or that.
S. What is going through my head is while you are explaining that maybe simply because I’m the will to receive, so I want everything, so that all the creation will be me or mine, and then every other desire is a threat because it wants the same thing and it’s not my own and it’s like a collision here.
R. This is already a collision in a certain area.
S. Because the desire is total, wants everything?
R. Okay, yes.
10. S. (21:04) I felt that the reason is the shattering because in the beginning there was only one desire that was created and one filling inside it and then after the shattering there is an aspiration to come back to the whole. Meaning our rejection from the others is because of the desire to come back to the whole because then either it threatens you or like you said you connect to through love; it can’t be alone in this anymore.
R. Okay.
11. S. (22:06) If I could ask about the Asia Congress? I understand there is no decision yet but we’re going to sit next not as a Ten?
R. That’s not for me.
S. I know. I just want to ask if we were speaking about the prayer at the minute, so how can we as a Ten come to the Congress not as an individual asking for the others but as a Ten connected asking for the other Tens?
R. If everyone speaks the same language, right, we’re talking about one whole thing here, so it’s not a problem everyone can sit, everyone can be mixed, and from my side, no problem even on the contrary, we will even feel each other more.
12. S. (23:16) What is the inner work of man in such an incorporation?
R. That he’s willing to connect to everyone to be with everyone, “as one man in one heart,” with all the world, meaning with the whole world in general, and to try and be with us all like we see here like we see here in our area.
S. He’s an individual or does he come with his stand inside? Where is his personal Ten in this state?
R. That is the problem because for a few days we will lose our Tens? I do not think that is good. What do you think?
13. S. (24:28) From past experience at least from my own such an incorporation gives great deficiencies to take back to your Ten and everybody rises, it’s a win-win situation that everybody gains from this.
R. In other words you detach from the tens and we all come to one Ten.
S. You don’t really disconnect from your Ten because if I understand correctly it’s not the body, it’s the whole that we’re searching for, the mutual bestowal. So we are taking the inspiration from the 10 that we have accumulated so far we’ve bestow it to other tens and in this way everyone incorporates with others there’s some, too, something mutual here, physically, corporeal way we can say that we are watching each other and let’s say other congresses we just make sure each one writes something when he shows up physically so there is this technical thing that we keep each other but we’re still incorporating at the same time. I’m working with something like that I don’t know?
R. Don’t look at me, you need to decide this, you need to decide this and arrange this. I’m not a kindergarten teacher, not an usher. It’s not me, who is the organizer who is arranging this and so on. That’s you, not me, I only relate to the lessons, okay?
