Part 3:

Baal HaSulam. Peace in the World (The Well-Being of a Certain Collective and the Well-Being of the Whole World)

Reading (00:24) “The Well-Being of a Certain Collective and the Well-Being of the Whole World…”

1. S. (05:04) My own good depends on the whole world? We don’t even to relate to this. I know that my good depends on my ten, my family, but who can think of the whole work?

R. Here he still doesn’t touch the ten. He is explaining to you that in the end the fate of each and everyone depends on the fate of the world, this is where we are developing.

S. I don’t even think about my people.

R. I understand.

S. And when we learn to think only of the ten and limit ourselves in our ten it doesn’t contradict?

R. No it doesn’t contradict, it only shows that you are still not developed and don’t feel how dependent you are on your ten, on your surroundings.

S. But my ten isn’t the whole world.

R. So we’ll have to wait a few more years.

S. I want to save all those years so should I think of the ten or the whole world?

R. You need to think that all of it is one system and it cannot be that one part will enjoy more than the other. In the end, not right now but through the development.

S. But if I have a ten that is flourishing and good and there are weaker tens?

R. I don’t know. Baal HaSulam doesn’t write about it here.

2. S. (06:45) He writes that people haven’t grasped this law of connection yet and he says that when nature develops the deed comes before the understanding and only actions will prove and push humanity forward. What does this mean?

R. Proof from life. This is what will influence humanity and force humanity to change its outlook, its perspective on life.

S. So we need to get blows to understand this, that’s what he means?

R. Yes yes.

3. S. (07:48) In the beginning Baal HaSulam writes that the whole public and the world is one but then he says that whoever draws from the collective is enslaved to them. We see also today how the whole world is interconnected, how in one phone you have the whole world and you’re  not even aware that you’re using the whole world. Where is this shattering between me taking from them but I don’t feel enslaved?

R. Recognition of evil. When you begin to feel through the influence of the reforming light that you are not giving to the world what you have to give.

S. What does that have to do with my recognition of evil?

R. This is exactly the recognition of evil. That you are not giving to the world what you have to give.

S. So how can I restrict that feeling?

R. Recognition of evil. Stop feeling. You understand that it’s not correction?

S. Still, how can we reach a state where we must give back?

R. Only through mutual connection, only through mutual connection when we unite and bestow upon each other.

S. On one hand I feel what you’re saying but in my understanding I don’t get how from us being connected will a person understand that we have to give back what we’re taking.

R. Let the forming light do its job.

S. And then what should we do?

R. Try to make it appear.

4. S. (10:14) If the development in nature is that the deed comes first so what’s the benefit in us explaining?

R. It’s also part of it. Through explaining you can shorten the way, through explaining you can bring people more quickly to the point of truth so that even though they don’t understand it themselves and won’t come to it you bring them the solution.

S. But if the deed won’t come first so there won’t be an understanding when if I give an explanation. If something will happen that will prove that it is for my benefit or the entire collective until it comes I won’t understand even if I get an explanation.

R. Yes and?

S. So what is the benefit in us explaining?

R. It still advances you. There is an explanation after the blow and an explanation before the blow. If you get an explanation and then the blow then you understand, if you get the blow and then the explanation then you don’t really understand.

S. So our task is to come to an explanation before the blows?

R. Yes.

S. Why is this mechanism working in that way that the explanation before the blow works better than the explanation after the blow?

R. Because by this you are advancing a person to the truth. It’s as with kids, you want to explain to them and explain to them and then you punish them. After the punishment they remember both the punishment and the explanation. We’ll talk about it.

5. S. (12:43) According to what we just read Baal HaSulam is trying to explain in this whole big paragraph that the benefit of a person, the world and the nation is one and the same. In the last paragraph he says how the world doesn’t understand this yet because the development in nature the act comes before understanding and only actions will prove and push humanity forward. So what does he mean, what deeds? What development if the world doesn’t understand this principle that it’s all one and the same, what acts will push it?

R. Bad actions.

6. S. (13:44) What he writes here, the whole idea of a piece of a certain country of the whole world, that it’s all one and the same it seems that it’s whether I’m in the constructors or in the destructors, each one can prove his point from this explanation. So I’m asking what needs to happen for the recognition of evil to develop. It’s clear that one public and the whole world’s peace is the same but it just proves my complaint, it doesn’t let me see that you can’t reach it. What Baal HaSulam is saying here, that this whole observation that we’re all connected in one system, everybody agrees with this but from their own viewpoint. If I’m a destructor I see the truth and the justice, it serves my complaint, it’s not from recognition of evil. So how do you reach recognition of evil, do you need one force, two forces?

R. To know the reason.

S. What does that mean?

R. To what do we want the public to come to?

S. Each one will say that he wants the benefit of everybody.

R. What is the benefit of everybody? The benefit of everybody is not a goal.

S. So what should be the goal?

R. The common good, the benefit of everyone doesn’t have any form.

S. What does he mean that he writes a piece in the whole world?

R. The well-being of the whole world depends on the Arvut, the mutual responsibility when everyone wants the same thing and everyone is responsible for everyone else and each one feels that he’s own well-being depends on the well-being of the whole world. That’s clear right?

S. Yes.

R. So what are you asking?

S. How to reach the recognition that I’m not there yet. How can I understand that I’m not concerned on everybody’s benefit?

R. Do you need proof for this? What are you thinking about from dawn to dust?

S. I want to understand how to acknowledge this because I don’t grasp the whole world, I can’t understand what the benefit of the whole world is. I can imagine that I’m thinking about  everybody, that I want the benefit of everyone but I’m not in the recognition yet that that is the state.

R. Yes. So there is disconnection with the friends, lack of connection with the friends. You are thinking from within your own mind and not from within the mind of the group. This is why you’re  thinking this way and because of this you cannot determine at least a certain measure of the truth.

S. How can I think more about the group?

R. How to think more about the group?

S. From the head of the group and not my own head?

R. By caring for the group.

S. What is the head of the group?

R. The head or the mind of the group is the place from which you think about the whole ten. Are you in a ten?

S. Yes.

R. So imagine yourself just worrying about the ten.

S. I understand what it means to think about one friend, maybe two.

R. That’s unrelated.

S. So what should I focus on?

R. On the ten.

S. What are they for me?

R. The ten? It’s that mechanism where you live and develop.

S. How can I recognize that more and more?

R. Through the effort.

S. Of doing what?

R. An effort where you live inside the ten and to the extent that you are connected to the ten you can receive from it all kinds of forces of bestowal that will bring you, nurture you, educate you, rear you, that’s it.

S. Sometimes there’s a feeling that I’m able to annul before the ten, sometimes. How can I more and more annul myself towards the ten?

R. It’s a must. Prayer, actions, anything you can.

Okay it’s enough for today. I see that you are already confused, sufficiently confused and exhausted to come to the meal.

7.S. (23:12) Externally we’ll know what to do (for the Unity event), that’s taken care of. But the friends of the world Kli have to enter an inner preparation. How should our inner preparation be towards this?

R. Around connection as around Mt. Sinai which is really a mountain that is very tough, big. Only our inner point called Moses can climb up it and if it climbs, that’s where it meets the Creator. Let’s hope that we will be able to do this, even the effort toward it is already a great thing. Our point of connection will lead us to the peak, the summit of the mountain.
