Student Comments: (01:00) When we began entering this period of learning the material on the topic of Lishma we asked Rav what is the suitable material that we need to give for this and he said we need only material on Lishma. There is no problem that we should read the articles we read already to read them again to get deeper into them and feel this topic will truly be immersed in us and we will receive it and grasp it. Specifically Shamati 5 we learned in the afternoon lesson, we didn’t learn it in the morning lesson and also we had different friends turning to us asking us to read it again and because it’s very deep and very relevant to our work and very close to us right now, it’s worthwhile to read again. We thought it would be correct now in the lesson.

1. Rav’s Introduction: (02:16) Of course I’m not opposed to it if the friends decide. I now also heard about this decision together with you for the first time so let’s read it. Each time we see even if we go over some articles a hundred times we see new things what the Creator wants us to receive, we will receive regardless, so please Shamati Article 5 “Lishma is an awakening from above and why do we need an awakening from below”.

R. The question is the following, does each and everyone have such a lack inside of his heart, meaning in between all of his deficiencies that he wants to reach the revelation of the Creator. That he wants to reach bestowing upon the Creator, so certainly it’s not in each and everyone but rather there are people after the shattering of the vessel of Adam HaRishon that have it within them more and those who have it less. This position to reach contact with the Creator is called the point in the heart and we need to try to awaken our heart through the work in the group, with the articles, with all these means, meetings etc. That this point that yearns to rise and get closer to the Creator that it will develop more and more in each and every one of us as much as possible. In the end everyone reaches contact with the Creator however the question is when? Therefore it is written then you will delight in the Lord. Then when you increase your will to receive your yearning to bestow to the Creator, to have contact with Him in a way that is suitable for such contact.

S. Yes, there is such a desire and motivation but the goal seems to be rather what he writes here is that you have to coerce yourself and you have to force yourself to go against the desire, only then you will reach this quality?

R. In the beginning a force a person receives a certain attraction or push or interest, but later on he is given the possibility to exert and to develop a will to receive of his own towards contact with the Creator, towards the inclination to the Creator. Then there is room for work, hard work where he does not see the results until he begins to see them. It takes a lot of time and only works with the friends in the group that may help him, that for sure that helps him but it depends on him how much he becomes incorporated with them and then together they do reach it.

S. In the end out of this exertion that one forces of himself exerts himself he reaches a lack specifically for Lishma, does he feel specifically this is what he lacks?

R. If he already received from the Creator preparation in his desires so that he has something for it, if he is in some environment that is also directed towards that, then for sure he already has everything in his hands and everything depends on his effort.

3. S. (26:48) Why does the Creator help us by causing us not to feel pleasure in the work of Lishma?

R. Why does the Creator help us because His purpose is to bring us to unification with Him. That’s why He helps us in all kinds of different forms, for and against. He confuses us He pulls us until we will acquire all kinds of qualities such that we will be able to understand Him, to feel Him and to be together with Him truly in partnership.

S. Why is it written that if we don’t work for the Creator there’s no exertion, but then we feel the body falls?

R. If you work for the Creator it means that you have reached a state where the Creator in your eyes is greater than anything else in this world. Indeed to work for the Creator who is so great, when you portray Him before you in such a way is no longer a problem. You simply surrender towards this great one and you receive elation and joy, you have connection with the greatest force. To the extent that you did not succeed in portraying this force before you, then you have fewer forces to work for Him, hard work until you may even leave the path. Everything depends on the greatness of the Creator that we have to establish before us, everything depends only on that.

3. S. (29:21) How do we feel the awakening from above? How will it be clear?

R. When we feel desires toward spirituality towards the Creator towards bestowal, connection more than other people, feel who usually don’t feel it at all. This is how we feel the work of the Creator on us that on the one hand he repels us on the other hand he draws us and through that he shakes us here stimulates us so that we will begin to build out of our own certain system of our relations between us and with him so it will be clear to us that on his own a person cannot reach the Creator but in the group when he receives forces from everyone and he directs them to the Creator then it is relatively easy. However the problem is that we need to persuade ourselves that this is the way. This is called from the love of all the people to the love of the Creator.

4. S. (31:01) How do we persuade ourselves, how does the body become accustomed to work against the will to receive?

R. This all depends on the reward. It all depends on their reward. People cannot depict to themselves a reward even with the weirdest thing and work for it. How can you understand that when people climb mountains they do all kinds of things that are even more dangerous and difficult because the reward that they feel for it is more than just exertion. The exertion is how we need to do it also in our spiritual work to make such calculations that there is no work that is work that is more important and paying off morei in an internal or complete manner than our work. That we get closer to the Creator, we connect with him, we work with him.

5. S. (32:59) It is written to pour out and to connect to the Creator to pray to the Creator is that connection for the Creator single arm and it?

R. It’s the same thing to pour out his heart or to pray to the Creator or to pray out alone or together with others. This is how it is.

6. S. (33:30) What is the development of the will to receive for oneself?

R. The will to receive is the will to receive of his own. It is partly the person did not have a will to receive but he received it by being with the friends and that’s you saw how much they are yearning for something. Then he received from them that desire and he also yearns for the same thing.

7. S. (34:09) In the beginning of the article it says that when there is a lack of Lishma the fulfillment comes from above and it comes as the answer to the prayer. Meaning that he receives fulfillment for his lack, so towards the most whole lack what is the response of the prayer? Is the prayer not itself the reward?

R. The prayer that the Creator sends to the person and the person praise and yes that’s a feeling as well certainly. Afterwards is the person who receives the ability to implement this prayer that he already receives vessels and feelings in the vessels and he already has adhesion, contact with the Creator. We don’t complete our work in asking of the Creator and already in that the work ends. That we ask of the Creator and the Creator is revealed and he comes to insert contact with us he comes closer and he’s revealed in us and we feel how much adhesion with the Creator grows, intensifies this is the sum total of our exertion. This is how it is each and every time more and more.

S. If there is adhesion with the Creator then what other efforts do we need to do?

R. We don’t need anything besides that we have reached it. However it depends on which state On which degree we are in adhesion with the Creator.

8. S. (36:20) In this way that we are learning this article again like a general lack, for one it is a pleasure and for another it is an effort, can this turn into a prayer?

R. I don’t think it needs to be an effort. Simply that each time we need to read the article even though we have read it a hundred times, we need to do it 101 times, as if it’s new. If you have a sensation I thought you already learned before, then you are getting nothing from the study. Also the first time you read it well. It is said that even if you read it 101 times you will see new things.

9. S. (37:39) Where is the limit of how much I can make the Creator great in my eyes because I see sometimes the Creator gets involved in it he gives to suffering and pushes from his side, why does it not only depend on me?

R. You have only a very small will to receive that with it that even in spirituality in corporeality you can, the general force that develops you is the Creator. It is the entire nature that you are in.

S. Okay but I’m asking to what extent can I make the Creator right in my eyes because there seems to be some limit to it?

R. That depends on the group.

10. S. (38:45) In the beginning of the article it is written that if we feel that the work is hard it means that we didn’t take the right package. Baal HaSulam continues and he says that if we work with the intention to reach Lishma and we get pleasure from it then we will be working for the will to receive and so we have to work against the will to receive and that is hard work. So how do we work in the right way meaning we work hard but not like in the first state so that we’re taking our package?

R. This I cannot say because it’s arranged by the upper light. Rather there needs to be yearning for connection and the yearning for the upper light that will influence on our efforts for connection and then equal along with it.

11. S. (40:14) On what does it depend that the reward in the Ten will be important and great so that we will want to reach it in bestowal.

R. I don’t hear a question, that the reward in the Ten needs to be greater.

S. How do we make it in theTen that it will be great enough so that the reward will bring one to the desire to bestow?

R. It depends on how much they are talking about the reward, the goal, the connection, the forces. By this they reveal that it all depends on the connection between them. How much did they pass the desire and upliftment to one another.

12. S. (41:25) As a servant how do we know which package is the right one?

R. We need to reach the society and to make an effort to awaken it to the purpose of creation for the whole connection. In as much as possible more and even though it may seem to us to be a very difficult package to do this but if we are requesting the Creator to help us to reach connection in order to get closer to him, we don’t need to feel any weight, and heaviness Is that clear?

13. S. (42:50) Towards the end of the article he writes that if a person works and has the faith of a reason then the body gets accustomed to it. Then he will delight in the Lord,so my question is how necessary and important is the matter of coercion, without coercion one cannot reach that state that he will delight in the Lord?

R. No, there are states that we need to develop coercion and its necessary elements in our exertion.

14. S. (43:47) A few days ago when we read this article for the first time I asked you we learned that in faith above reason are we acquiring the quality of bestowal so faith above reason is required while we work then when we haven’t reached it, regardless we have to believe if that’s that gives us forces and you said or at least that’s what I understood at heard, no but here in this excerpt in the end it is written there.

R. We need to make the effort to understand the faith above reason is called that I received force of bestowal which is in my eyes more important than the force of reception. That is called faith above reason, bestowal is a gift more important than reception and this I want to be determined in me that I will be truly as it is written that my bones are shaking, that this is what I wanted that this shall be the force over the force of reception that it needs to be one on top of the other.

S. At that time coercion needs to be work?

R. I need to describe it to myself and request that the Creator wants to give it to me and in this matter we will get close to it.

15. S.(45:59) What are the deficiencies of the friends in the Ten so that they will feel a need for Lishma?

R. Either group that in such a manner we awaken each other from friend to friend. That is how it is.

16. S. (46:33) When we recognize our smallness.and that we have now way to escape our egoism, so we make a condition to love the Creator anyway without the condition, is that a trick that the ego plays on us or can we actually make that decision to love the Creator because we decide to do it?

R. Why is it important if it’s this way or that, the main thing is how we respond to it. that is what is important.

17. S. (47:25) I apologize but I don’t manage to settle in my head the difference between a person in this world who works in all kinds of difficult works and bodily torments in order to achieve something in the end and the spiritual work. In the end we want to reach the greatest pleasure in the world. Can explain it in the end do I get the rewards in the end I get something grayed out of it so what is the difference?

R. I don’t understand your question. It seems to me that you are still confused. How many times did you read this article ?

S. Many times, I can’t count. I don’t understand if I manage to give pleasure in this process even then suffer along the way?

R. In the end when you receive pleasure from bestowal land it’s entirely composed of all your efforts you invested in order to attain it. That is it.

18. S. (48:57) You mentioned before that it all depends on the greatness of the Creator that we depict before us. The question is what criticism do we need in order to improve ourselves?

R. Again.

S. You said that everything depends on the greatness of the Creator that we depict before us. How do we use criticism for a change to improve ourselves without that same criticism harming the greatness of the Creator?

R. I have no words for it. Do it in such a manner that in each or each time it is different .I cannot give you some universal solution.

S. From what criticism should we avoid and what criticism is necessary?

R. I don’t think about criticism at all. I think about how I increase the greatness of the Creator in my eyes. In any case, that is what is important to me.

19. S. (50:28 ) Person who is rewarded with Lishma and puts together the will to receive what does he get out of life? Vitality out of?

R. That he has contact with the Creator and he continues to correct himself and others and then begins the true work of the Creator.

S. Does it happen at once or in slices?

R. It is the entire path. Until the end of correction and after the end of correction there is different work even more.

20. S. (51:13) A friend is asking how do we correct others?

R. You will correct your attitude towards them until you love them and then this will be your correction and their correction.

21. S. (51:40) In the article, he says we need to reach a complete prayer from the bottom of the heart but it seems like in practice there is never complete prayer. There’s always something missing, is there a way to reach a complete prayer?

R. To annul from to revoke it from its action.

S. To revoke it from its action?

R. Yes.

S. Yes, this is what he writes here since it has been removed from its office and it has nothing more to do since it’s no longer in use. When it is revoked from its function it’s considered put to death. What does it mean to remove it from its function?

R. That he seemingly cancels, revokes those actions and thus in his eyes it is considered as dead.

23. S. (53:31) If we can scrutinize the allegory, he writes here that the porter was thinking that certainly the small bag the merchant himself would take it and there was no need for a porter for it?

R. RIght.

S. It seems like the merchant himself would have taken the bag and the porter is not needed in the work.

R. Such things a person lets say can easily be corrected without the group.

S. Why is the payment for the correct bagage a small payment? The merchant does not want to pay a lot?

R. What is the correct package.

S. The small package that he talks about?

R. It depends a large payment for a larger one and a small payment for a smaller one.

S.What is the small work ? Why is it small?

R. The small one is that it is not heavy, but with the intention to bestow you don’t need to great forces in order to correct it.

S. Then why does he not take it if it is a small light package? Why does he simply not take it?

R. I guess it’s not for him, it’s not for the carrier.

24. S. (54:52) How can we be above the suffering that you feel more and more and believe in the greatness of the Creator?

R. We need to overcome more and more.

25. S. (55:20) How does the person reach the deficiency to bestow if he never tasted bestowal?

R. The lack to bestow is called the one feels that what he does he does it only for the Creator and not for himself, not for his benefit, that he wants that they desire that is now clothing and him that it is the desire of the Creator and that’s how he describes it to himself more and more.

S. A person who never tasted the taste of bestowal can reach the deficiency to bestow?

R. No, but slowly the Creator illuminates to him and then from Lo Lishma you reach Lishma.

S. What is the deficiency to bestow from the side of the Ten. Is there such a thing?

R. Yes that each Ten connects in order that everyone together will bestow to the Creator.

They are willing to do the work of connection between them in order in that same connection that they are establishing now, they want the Creator to clothe them and enjoy them.

26. S. (56:53) He writes in the article that when a person has a need for Lishma, a feeling comes from above. What is a need for Lishma? What is this need exactly?

R. The need for Lishma is what is in one’s heart and its internal, deep in there, and it awakens only by the command of the Creator.

S. He continues and he writes that they need form man’s work in order to receive Lishma from the Creator, it’s only in the form of a lack, and a Kli, a vessel and the feeling is a gift from the Creator, the Lishma so how can you make the Creator give you this gift?

R. By this you invest in friends and want to raise everyone towards the Creator that’s in this you are inviting the Creator to come towards them.

S. Seemingly,you invest in the friends and by that you express your deficiency for Lishma?

R. Yes, of course. When I invest in friends why do I do this? I want along with them to build a Kli ,a vessel which we will be able to bestow to the Creator.

S. He also puts an emphasis in the article that on our side to work is to reach a complete prayer to reach Lishma.

R. Yes.

S. How do you bring yourself to the end so that you know 100% that no one can help you achieve Lishma except for the Creator?

R. I don’t understand.

S. He writes that I will read from the article. However the prayer must be a complete prayer from the bottom of the heart. This means one knows 100% there is no one in the world who can help him but the Creator…

R. I make the effort by myself and then I see I cannot do it by myself. Then truly even according to my logic I understand how it can be that I will attain the aspect of Lishma if it’s from an entirely different world, to more of a degree. What can I do? I can only reach a lack that this is what I want and nothing else besides this.

27. S. (59:51) You said something correct on the question before,that we have to work to reach a state where the desire for bestowal is more important than the will to receive.

R. Yes.

S. According to this state, we are living in this reality it is very easy to be in the will to receive, it is very easy to be in Lo Lishma on the other hand there is something a way to build a deficiency so the question is where do we reach a state where we are indeed the quality of a bestowal is more important than the will to receive?

R. This is mainly by the environment. As much as we may learn it and read about it they cannot influence us so much but if I look at the friends and I see that by them it is the force of bestowal, actions of bestowal, then it is higher than everything else. Then I learn from them by envy, lust and honor. I too want to learn this quality of bestowal and that is how it is, that I advance. Each one from the friends we very quickly reach a state that we truly want to receive the quality of the bestowal. It is respected in my environment, so I want it to clothe in me.

28. S. (01:01:54) When we work eventually we see that the thief is stealing our work so how do we recognize a thief and prevent the stealing?

R. You can identify it when all the time whatever you attain even appreciation for the quality of bestowal, it disappears and once again you fall into the will to receive. That is how it is again and again and you don’t know what to do. The thief is constantly stealing your exertion from you that you have already attained some spiritual upliftment, some honor for the Creator. Then afterwards you fall and do not feel anything that is called that ‘he stole from you.’ Then each time he revokes the appreciation of the greatness of the Creator and you cannot take it back from him. Meaning all of our work is in how much we will enlarge the spiritual value, the value of spirituality of Lishma above Lo Lishma, and if theTen works on this and truly the thief cannot steal from them, from each one and everyone together. When they begin to work on the importance of Lishma, that will be between them, then the thief cannot come and steal the common package from everyone seemingly and that is how they advance to the goal in order to receive the quality of Lishma.

S. How exactly do you coerce yourself? What do you coerce the will to receive to do this work?

R. I want the quality of Lishma with the intention to bestow connection with the Creator.  I want it that it will be important in my eyes above everything else. That is it.

29. S. (01:04:27) He writes in the beginning that their work has to be by coercion only then I can be in order to bestow so you’re always going to carry the package and then carry the correct one?

R. Yes.

S. It’s all a matter of how quickly we go on to carry the correct package?

R. Yes.

30. S. (01:03) Why do you need the agreement of the body if you are going to receive a nature that is above it?

R. What do you mean by agreement of the body?

S. He said somebody has to agree with this work.

R. Yes, because the will to receive, wants also my will receive, and desire the force of bestowal that it will work and raise me above the state that I am in. I want to be in appreciation of bestowal Lishma, and all my forces.

S. We want to work with the second nature, which is above reason, Lishma. What does it mean to be involved? Rather, what would I do in the work?

R. You should continue to resist, do not want. I want not to continue it, all my bones are shaking.

S. What does this agreement say exactly? What is it?

R. I want to agree with it that the force of bestowal dominates over the whole world and that it should also be me and all my bones.

S. There are two parts to do the work of Lishma. The body and above it and the vessels that are outside of me?

R. I do not understand what you’re saying.

S. What external, do I need an external vessel?I don’t understand where the work is?

R. It is all your vessels, the entire reality is your vessels.

S. What does it mean a second nature?

R. The intention to bestow.

S. Where is that ? Where does dress?

R. It clothes in the will to receive in that same desire that there was before on the intention to receive and I will be on the intention to bestow. The desire to receive is one not two.

S. How does it go through this agreement ? The agreement to work Lishma? What happens that it changes and how it works?

R. By this that I work with the friends and all of us together, we want to reach bestowal and for this we are willing to let go of the private ego of each one and are ready to be more and more connected between us and the main thing is that the connection between us the wells receive that we connect we want that the force of a bestowal will dominate there, That is how we work and draw this force from above and a gradually corrects us.

S. If the will to receive is always the one who works so it determines how the state is created that he goes through this change in order to not demand for itself it is not clear, it’s now clear where there is even room for that.

R. By the force in the meantime accepted as such by the upper force, the will to receive just as at once wanted to receive in such a manner now wants to receive in a different way. That is what he writes himself. that whoever does not taste, does not know what it is. Rather taste and see that the Creator is good.

31. S. (01:09:20) Sometimes there is a state on the left and you really want to make an effort but there’s no suitcase, there is not a package. R. It is not important what states we are in, we always need to yearn for connection and from connection to the Creato. These two stops need to alway be before us. Connection between us and connection towards the Creator, from love of the creative beings to love of the Creator.

32. S. (01:10:10) He writes that if a person calculates for himself, he sees that the will to receive and doesn’t enjoy and want to receive anything.

R. Right.

S. At least in the will to bestow there is great pleasure that the Creator receives. So how to reach a state to constantly be in this calculation so that it won’t slip away?

R. That is very great, and long work. You always say okay I am starting and I am going to do this and that and then when the time comes then willingly or unwillingly he rejects it and does what is good for the will to receive. We are all familiar with it, it passes over all of us. The question is do all of us, together all of us, want this to not occur anymore. We want to strengthen all of their friends in the decision, the important decision, urgently necessary that we want to be only in the tendency towards connection between us and the Creator. That is what we have all in all to be as one man and one heart between us and also within the Creator. If we think about this in such a manner that we want all of us to be in this, then we will see just how much it becomes easier, the atmosphere around us, the sensation it will make it easier for each and everyone to join in that direction of connection.

33. S. (01:12:14) Are there actions that are worth preventing then and not trying to put intentions on them or from Lo Lishma to Lishma to avoid some actions in order to not be confused? Are there other actions that are better focused and avoid the others?

R. Actions of connection you cannot avoid them, you cannot put them aside. These are actions that from the beginning to the end are spiritual work. They are all gradually developing revealed before us as necessary.

S. In the actions of connections we should make efforts on it ?

R. There is nothing more besides what else is there besides connection?

S. Let’s say I am having lunch, I like lunch. Maybe here I can also.

R. An action such as lunch you do not need to make an effort. You have nothing to do there is no room for effort because it is your will to receive that is pushing you to this and you have nothing to this. There is no room for effort. Rather if you want to make the effort and lunch, true lunch to the Creator, here already there is great work that you need in each and every bite to feel that you are bestowing contentment to the Creator and not to yourself. Meaning that you truly are eating and don’t not feel any flavor. First of all that you go through restriction, you do not taste anything and then afterwards you begin to reveal that you begin to feel that you bestowed to the Creator that then you begin to feel how he enjoys from the pleasure that you give him that you passed to him.

S. That is exactly the question so when every action, if I can make the effort to try and think I am giving contentment to the Creator and gradually I don’t know how the taste disappears in one way or another no matter what the action, is this something we should do? As much as possible?

R. Try, try, yes.

34. S. (01:15:30) How to cause an awakening of the upper one in order for the friends to reach a complete prayer?

R. Again his is only prayers simply need to take the prayer as the main thing constantly diversify it change it a aim it at different directions.

35. S. (01:16:25) If I see the Creator as so great that I want to work for Him is that not considered working in order to receive? If so, why is that bestowal because to work for someone great we can also do that with the will to receive?

R. This is true yes, but do you see Him? Do you feel Him? The Creator is concealed, you can’t imagine His greatness, you have to exert effort then if you try hard it’s ….. how will pray for yourself the greatness of the Creator then you can do it. But there’s no Creator before you that you can bow before.

36. S. (01:17:27) What does it mean to work for the Creator?

R. Work for the Creator means that you want all the results of your exertion to be felt and to belong to Him.

37. S. (01:17:58 ) Does Lishma remain once it’s attained or do we always need to work between Lishma and Lo Lishma?

R. Yes, you constantly need to work from, Lo Lishma to Lishma Lo Lishma to Lishma, all the time until the final correction.

38. S. (01:18:16) Can we reach or say coronavirus hold 10?

R. Also a person because he in effect belongs to attend even to the world 10 but it is very difficult it is much easier if he is Incorporated in his own kind.

39. S. (01:18:41) Can we get pleasure from working in Lishma and if so what are the conditions for it?

R. Lishma are the same conditions that we discussed. I wish to be connected with all the friends for all of us to connect in one desire that we offer to the Creator, deliver to the Creator we want Him to use our desire and to enjoy it.

40. S. (01:19:23) How to strengthen the greatness of the Creator in the group?

R. Talk about it.

41. S. (01:19:35) It says that if a man works in faith above reason through coercing and the body gets accustomed to such a work, meaning against the will to receive, what does it mean that the body gets used to working through coercion? What gives the will to receive the forces that won’t prevent a person to work for the Creator?

R. The impression that he receives from the environment that is what straightens him out, advances him, he will get to the right action each time.

42. S. (01:20:40) It’s written that we should know that by being rewarded in Lishma he brings the will to receive to death because the will to receive is the evil inclination. What’s the meaning of working in Lishma if I lost connection?

R. If the will receive is put to death there’s nothing to do. The will to receive is already dead, there’s nothing to do.

S. So when you get Lishma there’s no more work?

R. No more work, then again you’re incorporated in the group you’re drawn after them and you acquire a new will to receive, a new one on a higher degree on the new degree, and that’s how you go from one degree to the next.

43. S. (01:21:28) How to get the desire if it’s not my own desire by the Creator’s?

R. The Creator’s desire is the desire to bestow. If we pray for, we ask to have a desire for love for love of friends, this is called the will of the Creator then it shines to us and through this light we acquire the desire to bestow the desire to love the desire to connect.

S. Can the Creator give a desire and intention as a result of our efforts?

R. Of course, as a result of our efforts we receive both the desires and the intentions from the Creator.
