Part 3:
Baal HaSulam. “Study of the Ten Sefirot” (TES). Vol. 1. Part 3. Inner Observation. Chapter Four. #1 (“We shall now explain the ten Sefirot”)
Reading Chapter 4 Item 1 (00:14)
Reading Chapter 4 Item 2 (02:16)
1. R. (03:12) That is also clear, there is nothing new about this.
Reading Chapter 4 Item 3 (03:16)
2. S. (04:05) We are talking about the connection between us so these 10 Sefirot we will learn about is the connection itself or our connection is Malchut and the 10 Sefirot are something above?
R. I cannot explain it in words, in our words, but if you take a group so instantly all souls, all of humanity, everyone gathers and exists in that same group and there is nothing but that, that is why you can work in a ten and that ten will expand to all other vessels, all of the humans that are even in reality.
S. So the ten with which we work is some starting point in the picture that we learn, is that the common Malchut or the 10 Sefirot are something that comment as light and fulfillment in the ten?
R. I do not understand you. The thing is that it is a bit difficult to explain this because it is like, because it is not like regular geometry, it is similar to things that Einstein was talking about in that kind of way that even now we can take care of one ten, by this we are taking care of all tens, all vessels, all the desire that the Creator created.
3. S. (06:29) Is this concept written about the ten Sefirot lengthwise, does that explain the state of the light, the direct light and reflected light that clothe in each other?
R. Also correct.
Reading Ch. 4 Item 4 (07:11)
4. R. (08:53) There are more kinds of 10 Sefirot ,we will bump into them but all in all it is not that important, in order to reach a vessel, a created being, we must have a cascading of the upper light, the upper bestowal, through ten degrees, the final 10th degree is already the correct response upon the light on behalf of the desire.
5. S. (09:27) It says here that the 10 Sefirot of reflected light and direct light are equal, how can such a thing be? It is always supposed to be balancing, one balances the other.
R. I do not understand you.
S. Maybe I simply do not understand this correctly but how can such a thing happen be that the 10 Sefirot of reflected light and direct light how can it be equal?
R. Even in physics we see, meaning in our world that you have many examples that it cannot be that you will have a response before the upper light comes to it, to Malchut and Malchut performs a restriction, screen, reflected light and a response and how it responds and how it knows how to respond. Because in it there are already all kinds of discernments, records, and forces, she just needs to establish them in her own desire. What she needs is to add, I would say her own exertion and in that way she responds correctly to the upper light.
S. If I can have some more, the mechanics of reflected and direct light is what brings that vessel to a balanced state or is it like you say that it has to obligate Malchut to exert work where there cannot be balance being static here?
R. We are talking about one concrete state that Malchut responds to what comes to her. There is nothing here that you can say it is not clear, not clear meaning not defined to begin with. Malchut is built in such a way that she responds to the upper light and a light rises from her until the source of the light and then they connect. There is no question about it that is why I don’t know where you are taking this from.
S. It turns out that every state between the direct and reflected light bring some…
R. The upper light before it performs the action he knows what action he needs to do, what action he needs to receive, what the result of the action will be, there is no renewing here. All of these things as an innovation is the Malchut that has to overcome its will to receive, perform a restriction, screen, reflected light and in this way respond to the upper light, all the Innovations are I Malchut that is why all of these responses from Malchut have to gather in Malchut and eventually they gather and gather and gather until they reach the building of the screen upon the upper light, that is it. That has to be the same response towards Malchut the way the Creator relates to her.
S. I apologize, it is just that here we read about different kinds of lights that goes for the vessel and then when it gets a certain amount of light as a balance between the direct and reflected light. How does that become a new light?
R. Everything separately, a new desire, a new upper light,. Restriction, screen, reflected light, the clothing of that direct light, of the reflected light on the direct light, everything new, in a concrete way that each and every action is sliced off from the previous action and it comes after it and each and everything there are 10 Sefirot, coupling by striking, clothing on one another and we are done, then the next action.
6. S. (14:34) The coarseness of the screen is what determines that the ten is as one?
R. The coarseness of the screen determines the intensity of the response from Malchut on the upper lights.
S. He writes that the 10 Sefirot of equal level, ten Sefirot one above just like10 Sefirot that are equal come out of one striking and coupling.
R. Okay.
7. S. (15:23) We’re talking about all the lights here, why aren’t we talking about the surrounding light here?
R. Why don’t we talk about another thousand different lights, you can ask. He does not mention it.
Reading Ch 4 Item 5 (15:49)
8. R. (17:36) Meaning that in every Partzuf there is Rosh, Toch, Sof and in every one of them there is ten Sefirot.
Reading Item 2 (17:47)
9. R. (19:33) Let’s keep going, everything until now is really flowing.
Reading Item 3 (19:42)
10. S. (21:15) What is the reflected light in the coarseness with respect to connection?
R. In the connection we must work against our ego, that is why it is as if it is counted as reflected light. Well what else did you ask?
S. Reflected light and coarseness?
R. Coarseness that desire that is used to connect that in that desire, on the edge of that desire you can connect and above that, no.
11. S. (22:05) What does it mean, the 10 Sefirot are of the same degree?
R. It is ten Sefirot in the same degree.
S. What is a Sefirot compared to a Partzufim with the same degree?
R. That is if there is a coupling by striking so we get ten Sefirot that their degree is equal. We have to read these things. Actually each and every light has its own degree but if we perform one coupling by striking even though many lights come out, but their degree is equal.
12. S. (22:51) What is the reflected light, can we call it the intention or something else?
R. Reflected light is the intention of the created being to connect for the friends to the created being Creator, that is what it’s called reflected light, if we can do it then we can start feeling that the upper force connects, and we all come closer to it and even incorporate it.
13. S. (23:40) He says that from the restriction below Malchut stopped being a vessel for reception of the light of Ein Sof but rather the reflected light coming from her becomes a vessel of reception, what do you mean Malchut becomes something else suddenly?
R. Malchut which is simple to receive cannot be a vessel of reception. You cannot, with your hunger or appetite receive anything from the host, there is a law that you can receive only on the condition that by this, you are giving back to him, passing it back to him but not for yourself. That is why you must perform a restriction, screen, reflected light as a preparation, that all of your reception will only be for the benefit of the host.
S. We have turn from the screen, the reflected light, to switch them and then only then Malchut become something else without the bestowal.
R. The Malchut will work as if a vessel of bestowal.
S. And that is how we should be.
R. Yes.
14. S. (25:04) He talks about reflected light coming down so what is the difference between that and reflected light?
R. To the extent that there is the ability to bestow to the host, the vessel of the Partzuf expands because then it is possible to receive more in order to bestow. That is it the vessel expands.
15. S. (25:35) A week or two ago we said that we can make an exercise to observe from the side, to observe your own desires and to divide them into three categories, what I want to bestow, what I would want, and I cannot and what I cannot at all. These are the three parts of the Partzuf and the way that I understood it resembles the Rosh?
R. No, that is Malchut divided in such a way departs there are desires that she can use in order to bestow there are desires that she can with a light of Hochma, there are some only in the light of Hassadim and some that she cannot receive it all and that is what she restricts. That is how Malchut starts implementing itself that it is divided and in such a way it starts working.
S. So it turns out that it is not three parts of the Partzuf, three categories?
R. No, no. We are speaking about the will to receive and that is what it does and in the Rosh there is a calculation, in the Toch you receive an order to bestow. There is all the vessels in order to bestow they are incorporated in the Toch of the Partzuf from the Peh to the Tabur and from the Tabur to the Sium there we see vessels that it is impossible to receive in at all because there is no screen in order to bestow there. What I just said is that clear?
S. In principle, there is a great difficulty, maybe I didn’t ask correctly, maybe next time I will go back to it. What does it mean that yesterday we read in general it is written that Hochma of direct light is attained, I thought it was only attained in reflected light?
R. When there is a restriction, screen or reflected light, what you receive in that reflected light, meaning what you can receive in order to bestow to the host so according to that we attain the degree of that created being as much as it identifies with the host with the Creator. Check what you wanted to ask there, okay?
Reading Item 4 (28:46)
Reading Item 5
16. R. (30:43) By this we finish chapter 5, before us we have chapter 6 and with God’s help we will start it tomorrow for now, for today, we are done with the lesson, no questions?
