Baal HaSulam. The Meaning of Conception and Birth
Reading The Meaning of Conception and Birth: (0:10) “One: Rules, general and…”
R. 1. (02:48) Meaning when he talks about the general and the particular in the heading, the difference between them is that the more the general is bigger when it comes out of its particular in the will to receive and its concern to swallow inside to enwrap inside more individuals, more particulars and the general becomes more important and we talked about it with greater importance and we look at it as a big thing. Meaning the general is more important than the particular because the particular cares only about itself and the general cares for everything it contains, usual things even though they don’t really take place but he explains about the corporeal nature but actually it stems from the spiritual nature.
2. S. (03:55) In the third phrase he says that all the bodies that were from flesh and bones are the same. I don’t understand, is he speaking about the physical bodies or the will to receive?
R. I think it’s about the will to receive. We will see later where he’s carrying us. Maybe we’ll see something new even though in general I know this article I never want to jump ahead. Maybe we’ll see something new. In the meantime whatever is not clear let’s leave it aside and scrutinize it later.
3. S. (04:47) What does it mean “dedicated to one city or a nation”? What is all that?
R. To the extent that the general includes more and more all of the particulars inside him the general becomes more important, bigger.
S. What in quality becomes bigger? We learn to be devoted to the ten so what beyond that is different in quality?
R. I didn’t understand your question. To the extent that I care for more individuals for more particulars of my will to receive, that’s considered that my will to receive that incorporates all these particular is more important. I care for them. The one who cares for the general is more important than the one who cares about the particular.
S. How’s the change in quantity make a change in quality?
R. Because it changes me, my care. That’s what he says that the one who is devoted to the general is more important than the one who is devoted to the particular.
S. The fact that from the individual to the general I understand. What’s the difference between the small general or a big general? Why does that change the quality?
R. Simply because I’m further and further from myself and I’m incorporated, I spread myself in all these particulars I care about.
S. So the more particulars I care about I am moving further away from myself?
R. Yes, of course. The more particulars I care about it makes me farther away from myself.
S. Why is it enough that I’m concerned about my ten friends?
R. I cannot tell you. I guess it already stems from the sin of Adam HaRishon. It’s not for no reason that He divided into so many particulars. According to that probably it was determined that 600,000 souls, 10 Sefirot all these things and 60,000 which are ultimately what brings us to the concept of one. When we collect all these things back, desires, intentions, the forced to reject, to collide, when we work upon it we reach a state that all in all this integration, this connection brings us to recognition of the general. Recognition of the unity.
S. So can we also say the opposite that if we see that we’re concerned for more friends, for the bigger public so it’s a sign of advancement?
R. Yes and if a person can, as he says, whoever can care for a bigger body is more important than one who can care about a smaller body. That’s what he writes here: the value of the general is according to the particulars that are in it because the bigger the amount the more important it is.
5. S. (09:00) It sounds like it’s opposite than the rationality what we were just talking about because the more concern the more people in the world obviously they are further away from the path and other things are important to them so if I’m concerned about them I’m going to be moving about away from the path.
R. He gives you a rule, a principle. The more you can come out of yourself to external desires the more you can do that, the greater you are, that’s all.
S. What does it mean to come out?
R. Come out, to incorporate, to work for them so it makes you greater.
S. But why to work for desires that are further away from spirituality?
R. Mr. he’s not going into all of those things, he’s just giving you a principle. Do you understand what a principle is? If you can come out and take care of a greater number it makes you more important than if you can go out for only a small amount of people, that’s all. Don’t grab on to all kinds of different forms. He says here there’s a rule and he gives you this one thing.
6. S. (10:30) He says that the still wasn’t divided into many details. What is the still?
R. Still is the lowest degree of the will to receive.
S. So people who don’t engage in the wisdom of Kabbalah, they can’t incorporate, they’re still?
R. The still cannot reach incorporation because it doesn’t have the quality, it doesn’t have the external motion. The still it doesn’t absorb and it doesn’t give, it stays still
S. So those who don’t engage in Kabbalah are the still?
R. They’re still but there’s also the still of sanctity which is above them.
S. What’s the still of sanctity?
R. That doesn’t matter. It’s not yet part of you.
7. S. (11:35) In the first sentence he says: “copying the work of the Creator”. What does that mean?
R. Bestowal, bestowal. You ask nicely. The work of the Creator is called providence or the nature of creation but for us if we want to resemble the Creator it’s the force of bestowal that we can acquire from Him.
Continues reading: (12:07) “Birth in spirituality…”
8. R. (13:33) Meaning our birth is to the extent that we can come to corrections, to bestowal, then we shift from a place called dead, where we don’t exist in spirituality. It’s not that we don’t exist, there’s no such a thing as not existing so from not existing in spirituality to being there in spirituality, a birth in spirituality, what is that birth in spirituality? Reaching states of correction, of bestowal, So coming to the world of correction is to be born in spirituality.
9. S. (14:25) It’s written here: the birth of the collective. What does it mean there?
R. I’m not sure what they’re translating to you.
S. He’s reading that the birth of construction of the bodies is the birth of the collective. What does that mean he’s asking?
R. I’ll read, therefore as there is birth of an individual in relation to the construction of the body’s there’s a birth of the collective, this is done by renewal of the spiritual force, meaning development of the concept is birth. For the collective force in the spiritual disparity of form divides the world’s from one another, this birth means arriving at the world of correction, meaning the fact that the will to receive in a person is shifting from his corporeal, small in order to receive to in order to bestow, in the smallest extent then it develops towards in order to bestow. Once it can be as in order to receive, now it’s a bigger in order to bestow in order to its spiritual development then it starts living, developing in the spiritual world.
S. So it’s interesting here because he puts the concept of the collective here, what does that have to do with bestowal?
R. Collective or general is the general soul where each of us is part of it and we go back, that structure called one soul, Adam HaRishon or Adam, and our return there is called coming to the world of correction, coming to the general.
S. It also says here that the development of the ….?
R. To the extent that we add, we join to that general, to that extent we are born, we develop and in that same upper world and the general the collective.
10. S. (17:40) About the birth, so I’m the individual that is renewing the force for spirituality, why does it develop the collective?
R. You’re connected to everyone, the fact that we’re results of the shattering that means that the shattering is between us, it’s in us and it deserves our connection but it’s not that we’re not connected we are inside a concealment, we are like dreamers. That’s why the fact that we are coming back from or disease, our dream, from lack of understanding to connection to opening our eyes, that’s considered coming back to the enlightened world, to the collective.
S. And about the collective, how can we relate to a concept of a collective if the collective is in me, in the individual?
R. That doesn’t matter, we attain it as our return to the collective, it’s not that the collective is inside of me, you can say so that the way you understand it, the way you recognize it, if you reveal it inside buy basically what you discover is that you are in the collective, the collective is above you, you are incorporated in the collective.
S. So there’s a collective that’s above me?
R. Yes, of course it’s above you, above your individual.
11. S. (19:36) The collective, to be concerned of the collective, we can even be concerned of ourselves so isn’t it wasting energy to worry about the collective?
R. On the contrary, the more you care about the collective at least your ten, you’re not losing energy, you’re getting spiritual energy from that.
S. But in corporeality we see that people don’t have forces…
R. In corporeality the law is different, in spirituality the more you give the more strength you feel in advance, in corporeality the more you give you lose, in spirituality everything depends on the intention, in corporeality everything depends on the action.
12. S. (20:52) When we give what happens when we are in the group, this force of the shattering comes and it explodes inside me so this distance from the group and this work becomes difficult to withstand. How do we overcome that in the work in the ten?
R. Close your eyes and try to do what is written. That is what I recommend. Doesn’t matter how difficult it is and you don’t feel any flavor, you’re usually, you’re not drawn to it, there’s no flavor and that you don’t understand, you don’t feel, keep on like I don’t know what to say like…. how should I say it? Like a bag of sand, I don’t know like a bag of sand, I don’t know, no emotion, no flavor and no strength, just annuland keep on going. Do you know how many times I feel such things during the lesson and I cannot annul myself so I just keep on going, it is very good and thank you, because you are forcing me by your desires.. Especially by these questions that irritate me very much and they come really they bang on my brain and my heart that you cancel yourself and you are keeping on, just flowing. Flowing like Rabbi Akiva in the stormy sea, flowing and every time you come out, only this way when you annul yourself because all the disturbances don’t come from friends or from Kiev or other such people. They nag me but they come from the Creator. I see the Creator behind them and that awakens me, brings me down, lowers me to the ground and I agree to that and I will go, I will follow him with my eyes shut, I will walk.
13. S. (23:54) It says in the text about disparity of form in spirituality, does that happen every time we perform a restriction?
R. Disparity of form happens every time, it is only in levels we don’t feel. Every time we are there, we’re always in changes, changes, changes, it’s only that soon we are going to reach such degrees where to feel them it will be about above our threshold of sensitivity so we start feeling them, the threshold will be below and our emotions will be higher. That is if we will cross this dead territory where we cannot get a response.
14. S (25:08) Does the collective mean perfection, holness and that’s why it is spirituality and other few degrees in it?
R. Yes, the more the person is Incorporated in the collective, he becomes closer to spirituality because spirituality, it is called I dwell among my people, the more we come closer in our emotions and our perception of the collective, the closer we are to the Creator.
S. What is the transition, let’s say an egotist also feels that concept of a nation, because the nation has individuals and their enemies and there all kinds of things, what does it mean that he’s a patriot?
R. I don’t understand, we are preparing for the elections, you see so many people saying how much they’re for the people, I am serving the people more and more so what?
S. I am trying to understand because the collective is a spiritual law?
R. That’s the Creator, he incorporates everything inside him the more a person tries to come out of himself to the still, vegetative and animate to the speaking that he becomes closer to the Creator but how to do that, expanding the will to receive in him to the will to bestow.
15. S. (27:08) How is what we’ve read here work together on collective and individual equal because they seem to be contradictory?
R. That’s true for a person in spirituality, the general and the particular are equal, except the general, like the particular, he greets everyone in an open way.
16. S. (27:44) In what way does the spiritual innovation take place?
R. Spiritual renewal happens in the renewal of the desire, is the desire ready to see the spiritual phenomenon, if it reaches a state where it elevates itself to the spiritual level, where it can identify the spiritual phenomenon then it is considered to be born, that desire in the spiritual world and accordingly it is incorporated in the spiritual states and accordingly it develops, that is spiritual birth, soon we will reach that.
17. S. (29:05) It turns out that there’s like cheating towards the ego, he creates problems from above, we must turn to him and use the ten and all the awakening is just for us to ask for connection in the ten, connection of the world?
R. Of course everything we have awakens in each and every moment, it is for us to demand an earring with the Creator.
18. S. (29:49) Can we define birth as a new form of renewal from the particular to the general, from general to the particular?
R. You can also say that.
19. S. (30:04) The strength of the general is greater if I acknowledge that it is part of me, how can I get the strength without falling?
R. Incorporate in the collective that is moving ahead in spirituality which is your ten, if you are incorporated in them for sure you won’t fail, that is certain, first of all fall on their hands. Don’t wait to have problems, diseases, God forbid, all kinds of things in life, fall in the hands of the collective, incorporate with them and connect and you will advance along with them. That is something we need to do first of all, afterwards if you can be above them, in somewhat, in order to carry them, to drag them behind you, only for that only for that, in order to help them advance then you are allowed to leave them and advance and be greater than them. Because you want to help them only that way and by that we have like a competition between us not whomever is greater than the friends, but whoever wants to be greater than the friends in order to help them. Meaning he becomes servants of them, he is lower than them and by that he is greater. That’s how we check and weigh the friends.
Reading (32:20) “ The Exodus from Egypt is called birth.”
20. S. (34:39) Meaning it turns out that first comes the light, some awakening from above and then you start awakening more?
R. What, you thought that something starts from below? Where do you have any action that starts from below, no action starts from below but everything from above, from above there’s light that awakens the vessels light that corrects the vessels light that awakens the prayer light that awakens corrections everything is by the light that reforms from above that appears, there’s only one source the upper like the Creator but we also need to know where we can bestow towards it to respond correctly to His bestowal from above but obviously in all actions as it is written “I am first and I am last” that’s what the Creator says and we are only in the middle that we start to discover who bestows what bestows why should I bestow and how we can respond towards it that’s how it happens.
21. S. (36:11) How can our spiritual birth affect humanity?
R. We as we learn are in that same mechanism of the shattered vessels souls shattered desires that is why what we do obviously also influences the rest of the parts of the desire to receive that were our results of the shattering of Adam HaRishon that is why the more we awaken and connect obviously it works on the rest of the shattered with parts more and more and awakens all kinds of movements in them new feelings that’s why they feel what’s happening there with those and those and those parts of creation especially as the nation of Israel that from them you feel all kinds of changes that always they supposedly start the problems and trouble, that’s what’s happening but we’re all in one connection and everything depends actually as much as we raise ourselves so by that we also drag the rest of the souls behind us, that they can’t awaken themselves to connection in the Creator.
S. Basically every part when it’s born in spirituality, it causes a chain reaction that enlightens or awakens everyone else?
R. Of course because we’re all one body as we say the 600,000 souls or billions of people it doesn’t matter we’re all together and then in that mechanism there are those who work more or who work less they shine upon others and so on the central part is called the one who is connected to the Creator meaning closer to the Upper light and they are called Yashar El, Israel straight to the Creator.
S. So why do we basically say that we have work, so why do we have work with respect to humanity, if we can say for instance a ten is about to be spiritually born so it affects the entire humanity, why do we also have to disseminate and to do all these actions to humanity?
R. I don’t understand we have work that we need to connect between us and we have work that we have to be connected between us and through this connection to show an example to the whole world and that’s our work also towards us to connect and also towards humanity to cause connection that’s called to be light to the nations meaning to show them that the connection is the goal for all of us and by this to cause connection in all of humanity all the shattered vessel of Adam HaRishon to connect it to the Creator.
S. But the question is simply, why isn’t there just work in the ten? Why do we also say we need to work in the world Kli and humanity if we cause a chain reaction anyhow if we work in the ten.
R. That’s not enough, we need to include inside us all the world Kli, all the world Kli, all the souls we are responsible for all of them as it’s written “my house shall be a house of prayer for all nations.
S. How do we do that?
R. By dissemination, for example reaching connection between us, by us connecting between us to the Creator and then through us from the Creator the light can pass through an awakening towards everybody and we’re hoping it will happen quickly and soon.
S. We need to incorporate them inside us for it to happen?
R. Yes, of course.
S. Meaning they, on their behalf, they have no work, only we need to do the work.
R. People who the Creator doesn’t awaken them it doesn’t matter what type of people they belong to as Baal HaSulam writes white, black, red, yellow, it doesn’t matter those people aren’t guilty that we don’t have an awakening but there’s an awakening in part of humanity so they awaken and through them the Creator bestows on all the rest of humanity and that depends on that group that has awakened earlier. That the Creator awakens them and they need to connect to Him in connection for the sake of everyone and then through them He starts taking care of all the other souls.
S. If I may continue, so basically our dissemination is like Baal HaSulam writes for us that it’s only to collect more pieces of our soul and to raise them to correction?
R. Yes that’s why the more we advance in spirituality we’ll also feel more of a pressure from the law of humanity that they’ll press on us and hear us and demand of us more and more, and then the more we advance you will see how wondrous it is that we’ll feel more of a demand and a plea towards us and the world complains towards us from the world because we need more and more to be concerned about them. That’s how it is going to be.
S. This will also come in circles?
R. Yes.
S. We’ll expand?
R. Yes and all kinds of types of people, nations that’s how it’s going to advance, also tribes we lost two thousand years ago are going to suddenly be revealed or even three thousand years.
S. Also the war that is taking place is also some kind of pressure put on us?
R. Actually there is no work and spirituality, there’s no case in corporeality, instance in corporeality that doesn’t stem from the necessity for correction and connection, yes that is why we will still have to learn all these things what’s happening between Russia and Ukraine specifically and all the countries that are close to that whole dispute that were more distant it’s very interesting, all of these spiritual roots will be revealed of every nation it’s going to be revealed at the right time for now we can’t reveal that yet.
S. How do we awaken humanity to correction but not through wars? In a good way.
R. That’s by us disseminating the method of correction the necessity for correction for connection and the whole world that’s what Baal HaSulam wanted so much to continue or start but he was stopped that is why we are the first group international group that is accepting everybody and including everyone and disseminating to everyone and in this way we are starting the path of the general correction. Let’s hope we succeed and big time in all the general reality.
22. S. (45:24) Distributing to the collective without building a connection in the ten, is it the right approach in the work of distribution?
R. I think so but still by this we’re only doing work the first step let’s say, we’re disseminating the knowledge about this between all people that they will know and they will see what the wisdom of Kabbalah is speaking about this still it’s not yet real spiritual actions that are supposedly starting in war between them no, it’s disseminating the knowledge and not the actual spiritual work not a person coming closer to the Creator but like the general knowledge we’re learning about it like you learn history geography all kinds of wisdoms so we’re also learning a bit of wisdom of Kabbalah what it’s speaking about what does it even want from people.
23. S. (46:52) In order to touch all different layers of people of this world, those who published the wisdom of Kabbalah is a good for them to also have a university degree or something that gives them some sort of acknowledgement for those people who are not aware of the wisdom of Kabbalah?
R. I don’t know I did a doctorate many years ago it was many years after I already started studying Kabbalah even though I had the degree of the university in biocybernetics medical cybernetics but I went and I did a doctorate in the philosophy in Kabbalah in order to be that it’s written down somewhere that I am that I belong to those who are doctors in science so I got a Ph.D I don’t think we really need it no one in the world, people aren’t studying what we’re studying you can learn the wisdom of Kabbalah in the university, my daughter also finished the university in philosophy and Kabbalah nothing of what we’re learning she didn’t learn she learned history a lot all kinds of things but no more than that.
She’s studying with us for years that’s how we see it, it doesn’t add anything you can ask her it’s Shay’s wife, I don’t think so, actually in order to go out to the general public so it’s good that we have all kinds of academic degrees medals that are accepted with the external public but I think we’re coming close to certain times that people don’t take it into consideration the main thing is that a person speaks to the point.
24. S. (49:55) Previous when you talked about giving and spirituality and you said because giving in spirituality is with intention it doesn’t waste energy. What does that mean giving, giving with intention?
R. What did I say that about?
S. We were talking about the more person caring about the collective he doesn’t lose energy, on the contrary he gets spiritual energy, then you continued and you said there is a difference between giving in corporeality and in spirituality, that in spirituality because it’s giving with intention it doesn’t take energy, what does it mean?
R. In spirituality given intention is when I give the host again it’s the same example as Baal HaSulam explains so the more I give to the host want to give to him by this I fill with what he wants to give me because all the source of energy is in him so I receive from him to the extent that I can give to him or want to give to him so it turns out that I open that pipeline to accept abundance from him and then from that I fill, whoever gives and spirituality he receives and doesn’t want to give meaning he wants to give but except for the intention, in practice, he receives by this he opens this pipeline towards him.
S. So this action where does it start from my side?
R. The action starts by you wanting to bestow to the host and then to that extent you are prepared to everything to receive to bestow to do everything you have and only take into account the host to incorporate in him and to see how you fill him it’s like you a mother who breastfeeds the baby and as much as she wants him to receive from her by this she’s being filled with the emotions that she is giving and not receiving. We see it also in our world, in our corporeal world we see the same thing within a woman that she breastfeeds, also we need to be in such a way between us and between us to the Creator.
25. S. (52:50) You were talking about the pipeline through which fulfillment comes like a mother. In this pipeline in that channel are all the deficiencies we take from the friends filled?
R. Of course, the more of a deficiency we get from the nations of the world from all the friends and groups and tens other tens as much as we can present them to the Creator then we have the greater vessel broader complex that the Creator can fill from the light of Ein Sof and he fills it according to the deficiency and the style the deficiency on all those vessels that we present to Him and then according to that we determine our degree our new spiritual degree.
S. Meaning we can say that the main thing, the main benefit of that channel is to fill all the deficiencies we collect for it?
R. Yes but we need to understand that just as the person doesn’t connect to the friends so he becomes clogged, a blocked vessel and then the light can’t penetrate to him he needs to open himself that through him the light will keep going towards the others in this way the ten needs from some degree let’s say to start opening themselves towards all of humanity gradually from close to further away in order to receive that light meaning the vessel can’t receive if it doesn’t have someone to pass it on towards, there is no such a thing we see it a bit in our life too.
S. What does it mean to open myself to the friends?
R. That you want the light to go to them in any way that first of all their deficiencies are important to you, more than yours.
S. If I try for their deficiency to be more important than mine?
R. Yes of course in that way Rabash writes.
S. But still not opening.
R. It can’t be it, that it’s open but Rabash writes about it too in his articles there are a lot of articles that speak about it.
26. S. (55:52) We get the quality of bestowal from the connection between us but implementing it for the light to to pass through some individual way.
R. Nothing you said is correct, nothing is correct, nothing and you will see it as much as it needs to be revealed in a different way too, incorrect what you said, think about it and ask tomorrow.
27. S. (57:00) If we care about the ten we’re going into all the subtleties of caring about the ten as opposed to that when we’re caring about the whole world we can’t go into the details where in general where we care for them, so why is the care for the collective greater than the care for the ten?
R. It’s still not a great concern, we’re going to have to work on it but first of all there has to be concern about the ten now so we can build this vessel, this pipeline and afterwards we’ll already reach more external vessels.
28. S. (57:45) What is the birth of the ten? What will be our birth as Bnei Baruch?
R. The birth is that we feel that for now the darkness between us we don’t feel the Creator that is the force of bestowal between us we still can’t be concerned each one to everyone else in the ten and we don’t have one vessel meaning still the parts of the future newborn aren’t connected together yet that is why there is no circulation of the intention and there’s no light of life. When we connect more stronger between us we will also have the light of life and we’ll be able to discover it and we’ll feel that we’re an embryo.
29. S. (58:50) Should we pray for the collective as we pray for the friends in the ten?
R. It will come later on but for now no you don’t need to be concerned for the collective more than you are concerned about the ten first of all it’s concern on the close ones meaning your ten your friends in order to connect them together and then from that when you’ll feel that you’re together then from being together, not each one concerned about the world but you all for the connection between us between you we’ll be concerned to the world it has to go through circles and circles from the Creator towards you from you towards the world.
30. S. (58:52) If in addition to my ten I should engage in such discrimination that’s going to this corporeal world it’s connection with people it takes time how to divide my time?
R. We need to make sure the concern will be first about the ten and only part of the time if you come to the connection in the time then be concerned of the connection with the world and for now the attitude towards the world has to be only in dissemination.
31. S. (01:00:30) We used to say that we have to hold on to the ten is a womb, why does Baal HaSulam say that the mother’s womb is dirty?
R. For now that’s how the embryo develops it can’t see it can’t feel even though it’s written that the spiritual embryo sees from one end of the world to the next but in the corporeal impregnation we’re there as flesh that is developing until emotions mind develop and he’s ready for some kind of actions ready by starting to manage himself in somewhat and then ready for birth. At least to breathe some air to swallow and so on.
Reading (01:01:49) “Still born”
32. R. (01:02:40) Well you see how Baal HaSulam writes it so brief he probably wanted to keep elaborating on this more but he didn’t, so what does it mean that after the pregnancy he reaches birth and such a difficult birth and after the birth also rising up from it is so difficult that’s called that it was born dead and it needs to be resurrected so it has to go through a lot of states and in those states it’s will to receive has to grow more and to reach difficult spiritual states.
Then when it goes through all these states gradually gradually he is resurrected that’s why we have to understand that these states are essential they’re necessary and I am just gathering words so not to escape from it too much we grow from the state of death even worse it’s not just disconnection it’s the opposite of the Creator of the connection of all the spiritual things and in this way we need to go through these states called born dead and only afterwards we come out of the state of the dead and start to live that’s it, that’s why even though the exodus is called birth but along with that the birth isn’t successful that we enter many scrutinies of a result from the shattering that we’ve been through from the sin of Adam HaRishon that he caused we need to discover it because he caused it in force and we have to discover it in practice.
That’s what is happening to us after we’re born from the exodus and that’s why he writes that here this newborn was born still because after the iron melting pot and enslavement of Egypt comes the birth but they were still unfit to breathe the spirit of life from the enlightened world, where they were given a promise that they would come until the count began and the war with Amalek and the trials of the water et ceter until this day till this day and arrived at the Sinai desert and Sinai means, Sinah, hatred for they are pronounced the same meaning affliction entailedl in every illness that those states we must go through according to what the Kabbalists tell us we are already in the healing process and living and we’re ready to reach a state as he said onward the birth to the mother and father, that’s already what we’ll learn with God’s help tomorrow and now…
