Lesson 4 – “A Prayer from the Bottom of the Heart.”

1. Rav’s Intro (03:00) What we need to do, the main thing we need in our life is to reach out to the upper force and to ask help from Him. That He’ll help us correct ourselves from the state that He created us in, the evil inclination, in the will to receive and that He will lead us to a will to bestow. By that we’ll be corrected like the Creator, we’ll feel the spiritual reality, not what we feel now, the corrupted reality, the corporeal one. By that we’ll be able to feel the world of Ein Sof, life above our existence, eternal and complete life and everything will be revealed only in us asking from the Creator to rise to the spiritual degree. He expects it, He awaits it and it all depends on our request. That is why in all of our life there is no action that’s more important, more special than prayer. In other words, turning to the Creator so that He will help us, so that He will take us out from our egoistic desire, that we will connect between us and accordingly to that extent connect to Him. That is actually the most important thing we have in life, the main thing that we have in life. Rabash writes to us three conditions in prayer. One, believing that He can save him, that the Creator can save us although he has the worst conditions of all his contemporaries, everyone. Meaning a person thinks how can you help me? What can He do to me? I am so bad, I’m a liar and a thief, I disregard everyone. There’s no words at all to describe who I am.

So Kabbalists say to us that it is not important because everything you have the Creator chose for you so you should do what is upon you and don’t make any calculations. That is why Rabash says even if you have the worst conditions of all of your generation, any place that the Lord’s hand will be too short to save him – no, don’t think that He can’t. Like He created the world and all of the world is under His dominance, just like that He can arrange for you no matter what conditions. He can arrange everything you need in order to reach the final correction, that if not so then the landlord cannot save his vessels. If you think that the Creator can’t help you, you don’t say that it is because you’re ruined. You may be that way, corrupted but you are here. You’re actually talking about the Creator, that the Creator isn’t capable of helping you, that’s impossible. All of the strength, the forces in reality are included in the Creator and we mustn’t think that we have the possibility to reach correction. Everything is done by one upper force, that He created reality, He created each and every one of us and that’s why He is capable of forming all of the corrections and bringing us to connection; to connect “as one man in one heart” and we will reach our final correction. So it all depends only on a person. The Creator is willing to help each and everyone regardless of what conditions a person is born in, under what qualities he has, there’s no importance to that.

The Creator is able to correct everything. That He wants a person to turn to Him, demand from Him, to do everything that is needed, just to not let go of the Creator; to nag Him, to be his ongoing request to correct man. That is why whoever understands that, he does everything in order to not let go, to pray, to ask for the Creator to correct him. How does he see his correction? Through connection with the friends, first of all in the ten. That is why we shouldn’t stop the connection between us and the connection between the Creator. That He will help us be corrected, connected between us and with the Creator together. That’s it. If we let go of this request of turning to the Creator, that’s a sign that we don’t believe that the Creator is capable and that is a great transgression. It’s a great transgression to think that. Are there any questions about that, about what I said?

2. S. (11:56) You said we must not think that there’s no way to reach correction but if these thoughts still come and there’s no complete confidence in this then according to what I understand the real request to the Creator appears out of confidence that it is possible. In other words I understand that I’m lacking confidence, that it is possible for every person every moment and the Creator waits every moment. How can I have such confidence? On one hand, I understand that in Bnei Baruch everything is possible together with love and the Kabbalists. This method is a true method but on the other hand there are still such thoughts that maybe, right now, it’s not possible and that’s why I can’t ask.

R. No, it all depends on the group, on the friends. That’s why it says either friends or death, meaning either a group, a society, connection with the friends or death, spiritual death. A person can’t hold himself in a spiritual connection with the Creator. That’s why if we exist in the ten in a way that we are connecting among each other and together reaching out to the Creator then there’s no reason that we won’t succeed, especially in our time and in a short time.

S. If you suddenly lose the connection and start thinking that there is no such opportunity, so what?

R. If I lose contact with the friends, so I have more friends and more friends because all in all the ten is a structure that I can always get support from.

3. S. (14:44) When we work with the friends, sometimes there’s a feeling of shame because sometimes we speak badly to people that we love. So how can we overcome this? Is it personal work with the Creator or with the friends?

R. It says about that, “go to my Maker.” In other words, reach out to the Creator because what you have the Creator did. So you shouldn’t be ashamed of anything. All of the qualities, the evil inclination, everything the Creator did and you can’t correct it, don’t think that you can. You can only turn to the Creator to correct it. That is why what comes to you, all of your evil inclination, when it confuses you and it corrupts you, that’s from the Creator on the one hand. On the other hand you need to turn to the Creator and ask Him to correct it. In other words, not the good things or the bad things, everything that happens it all happens from above. All you need to do is connect it to the Creator. And here you have no disturbances especially if you are among the friends and “one will help his friend.” You can connect to one another so that you will always have strength to reach out and ask for correction.

4. S. (16:51) I don’t believe but I’m certain that the Creator has already helped Bnei Baruch, not that He will help in the future but He already helped, He’s always helping, when is He not helping? So even though I don’t see it there’s only one problem here, it’s me. I have two questions. First of all, what is the difference between faith and confidence when a person overcomes everything he sees?

R. We need to try and be above what you think and feel. You want to constantly be aimed to the upper force that He created, that He holds all of the world with His force and in the world there is nothing that He doesn’t govern. He governs everything and we’ll discover that too. And when we reach this understanding we need only to turn to the Creator, we have nothing other than prayer. That’s why Rabash says here three conditions in prayer. Believing that He can save him although a person thinks that he has the worst possible conditions from others and still the force of the Creator can help him, that’s one.

Two, I’m continuing the article, he no longer has any choice for he has already done everything in order to ask, to convince the Creator to help him, to correct him; that he did everything in his ability and he found no cure for his plight so he doesn’t yet see that he’s corrected. It’s a problem, I asked many times, I tried many actions, I connected with the friends. There are those that say that it has only become worse. It’s not that I’ve corrected myself but I feel that I have corrupted myself. Well, what can you do If a person feels that way? To hear what Kabbalists are saying there’s no such thing that the Creator leaves a person but it all depends on the extent that a person asks from the Creator. So we’re going back to that we need to turn to the Creator, to ask from Him like a little child grabbing onto his mum, not letting her escape, not letting go of her. That is how we need to be connected to the Creator.

R. There’s no disturbance for anyone except for a person himself.

5. S. (21:42) What is the reason that a person feels that he’s unworthy of redemption?

R. That’s nonsense. The Creator created him. The Creator says, “I created the evil inclination.” That is what a person feels that he has the evil inclination, it comes from the Creator. A person needs to turn to the Creator and demand correction from Him.

6. S. (22:35) You started the lesson talking about feeling this spiritual reality. What does it mean to feel the spiritual reality if we are still locked, caged in the corporeal reality?

R. Yes, we still feel the spiritual reality through the corrupted conditions, the corrupted qualities of ours. But still we start from these qualities, we start turning to the Creator and then He corrects our qualities and we start feeling the upper reality instead of this world.

S. Is it something we can feel only in such events like the Congress or is it something that we can always feel?

R. We can always feel it, it only depends on our prayer.

7. S. (23:55) The Creator created me and also threw me from the Garden of Eden and caused me to eat the forbidden fruit. He runs all the actions, so what’s the connection between the created being and the Creator here because He manages everything?

R. What is the connection between the Creator and the created being? He confuses us so that through these confusions we will see how we build our correct connection, how we reach adhesion with Him. That everything that He does we’ll understand, we’ll feel and we’ll connect to Him. That’s it.

S. But He, too, also gives us some awareness. So how can we acquire awareness of our own?

R. The Creator gives us confusions on purpose so that from them we’ll hold ourselves directly towards Him and towards the purpose of creation. Then through our requests from a confused place, from a shattered place that we speak of we begin to understand one thing and its opposite, meaning the advantage of light out of darkness. To the extent I ask from the Creator to help me come out of my confusions to that extent He can raise me and from all of this confusion, from all of this mess, from all of this world I begin to understand his path. That’s how we advance to a corrected world.

8. S. (27:18) We have to correct our uncorrected qualities. I feel myself for example, I feel pride, envy, fear, I feel uncorrected. At the same time when we are in the group reading TES or The Writings of Rabash we feel completely different. We feel connection, we feel the power of the group. How can I combine the request to the Creator and the work in the group because it turns out that you’re saying that we must not show that we are in a descent. We have to act that we are loving the friends. We can’t as I understand it show our own uncorrected feelings or qualities, that I have pride or I’m jealous or I’m afraid. How do we do it? While reading the articles of Rabash and at the same time using the power of the group and asking the Creator to correct my pride? How do we technically do it?

R. Ask all the time from the Creator about the connection with the friends, about the correction of that connection; that you want to bestow upon the friends in a positive way of course. That’s what we need to do. Eventually we’ll see that we need to come closer, that we come closer to one another. That we understand that only through our mutual qualities, our mutual connections we can convince the Creator to correct us. It’s very important, it’s important to know that if we connect to one another in the ten or maybe if we’ll be less in quantity, 6, 7 or 8, so we can convince the Creator to correct us.

S. We can convince the Creator but how do we do it technically? I feel myself that I’m uncorrected at a given moment. Upon me there are friends. I just have to embrace them after we read the article for example? We have a virtual group. We can’t hug each other but to feel what happens after the taste of the article and then at that moment to ask the Creator to correct my own uncorrected qualities? How do we do it?

R. It doesn’t matter when you ask, before you read or after you read. You’ll see how it acts.

9. S. (31:37) What does it mean to see my corrections?

R. To see my corrections, it means that I start relating to my friends in my ten like to my relatives.

10. S. (32:17) You said we must not wait and stop the connection between us for a moment. How can we not stop the connection during the day?

R. Through the friends in the ten we determine that we are constantly thinking how to strengthen one another together and from the connection between us to turn to the Creator. There are two things here: connection between us in the ten and from that connection reaching out to the Creator. Nothing else will help us in our lives to be corrected, close to the Creator and understand the purpose of life, the purpose of creation.

11. S. (33:18) The practical work is about getting inspiration, energy, joy and at that moment I can’t keep it in myself because it’s not mine. It’s a moment intended to keep me on the path but it is this hot dish that I have to hand out quickly with inspiration, with impressions in the direction of the study or at work. So it’s not mine to begin with.

R. What are we talking about now? About the fact that we need to be connected between us so that from this connection we’ll be able to reach out to the Creator.

S. Yes. This connection that we were given we direct it to our environment which elevates us?

R. Yes.

12. S. (34:54) To understand the Creator’s actions or how He operates, if the Creator is the One who decides and He has decisive words in regards to our path, can we understand that He is not helping us on the path as help that He is giving us on our path? If we feel like He’s not helping us is it still regarded as help from the Creator?

R. He also creates that feeling in me that He is not helping me. I guess that He wants me to turn to Him in a deeper manner.

S. How can we accustom ourselves to the fact that He’s not helping or at least He’s feeling? How can we accustom ourselves to this feeling?

R. We need to accustom ourselves. We need to constantly be in a prayer to the Creator in our inner effort, to try and get from Him what He sends us and to be like that all the time. That’s called “I am for my beloved, and my beloved is for Me.” Try and do it non-stop. Try and be in an inner dialogue with the Creator and you will see how it influences and you will start getting new sensations.

13. S. (38:01) I asked many times and I prayed from the bottom of my heart, truly from the bottom of my heart and I wasn’t answered. And I kept on praying again, not the prayer of the synagogue but between me and the Creator and I did not get an answer.

R. You need to check your ten.

S. I don’t have a ten. We haven’t come to it in the campus.

R. Okay, so wait.

S. I am not talking about love that people think of in their fantasies or what they see in movies etcetera. Can you say something about getting closer to love that is real, with people who are actually foreign to you, strangers within the ten?

R. I can only say that when one soul begins to open up the structure of the soul of Adam HaRishon, you will see how we all belong to one soul and we’re all close.

14. S. (40:00) How should a person search for real love in his life?

R. How does a person need to search for love through the friends, when he connects you can’t just get the force of love. When he connects with the friends and sees that they have a force of rejection of conflicts, doubts. When he works with the qualities that the Creator created in him to start with, and when he wants to rise above it then he begins to feel what is the opposite force and in his prayer he asks from the Creator to turn him to inverting and then the Creator shows him what the force of love is; what is the force of connection, what it means to be in “one heart.” And then a person advances.

S. But the will to receive, the corporeal will to receive wants love as well, so what’s the difference?

R. In corporeality, the will to receive wants love because it loves itself. In spirituality, a person wants love because he truly wants to love the others and the Creator explains to him and shows him what it means to love the other.

S. But when I love a friend, I love myself within the friend?

R. Yes, I know slowly slowly we come out of it, you are right.

15. S. (42:39) Does the Creator know how much effort I will put into my work through my life and if He does then what is in my hands?

R. In your hands is only to ask. There is nothing other than prayer, nothing that you can do in your life.

S. Is there a certain quantity or quality in the prayer, how much I have to demand?

R. Each one has to raise a special prayer from each one and then he raises his connection.

16. S. (44:94) We have a friend in the Ten who left the Ten without explanation. She watches the lessons and she is watching now and I continue to pray for her and ask the Creator to bring her back. Is this concern for her or is it my ego that is not letting her go?

R. Both. You have to continue, continue praying for both for all those who left us because still, at the end of the day they have to return and correct themselves.

17. S. (45:58) Here in Bnei Baruch I felt a strong desire for my friends to be able to be here, such a strong desire that I was willing to give up my place. Here, there is a very deep prayer from the heart that each friend in the world Kli will be able to come to the congress and I thank you and the world Kli for helping open my heart. Our Ten, again a great friend for my Ten, moved away from us. We prayed for her, we wrote her letters and we expressed our love for her. What more effort can we do to awaken her heart?

R. Only pray. But you have to show that you are connected among you and that you are helping each other so she would see the Ten in its corrected state.

18. S. (47:44) Our desire is to be in constant communication with the Creator. How can we do this practically because I want to be a conduit for my Ten, I want them to blossom but how do I pray when I am sleeping or when I am in this lesson, how do you be in constant communication?

R. You have friends all over the world, right? And when you can’t, they can and so on. There is no problem.

S. You mentioned the three conditions. The first one, that we have to believe that the Creator can help. The second, we should have no other option. We should believe that the only option is the Creator. What do we need to pray for us to come to this realization, that this is the truth?

R. I would like to read the third condition that Rabash writes for us. ‘That if the Creator does not help a person then it is better for a person to be dead than alive. To that extent a person feels that he has to get help from the Creator. A prayer means work in the heart that that as much as one is lost, so is the measure of the prayer. Meaning the more a person feels that he has nothing, no hope, everything is lost, hopeless, to that extent he can pray. Clearly, one who lacks luxuries is not like one who has been sentenced to death, and only the execution is missing, and he is already tied with iron chains, and he is standing and pleading for his life. He will certainly not rest or sleep or be distracted for even a moment from praying for his life.’ Meaning a person must come to a state where coming out of this feeling, that he has no choice, it’s possible only through prayer and that the Creator is saving him.

S. I pray that we will all leave this place with the three conditions planted deeply in our hearts and that’s how we will move from now on.

19. S. (52:07) Our team of Russian speakers from different countries, yesterday we had the privilege to serve the of the convention we washed the showers, we cleaned the bathrooms during the day, the men’s and women’s and all the floors, and as the team organizer I had all kinds of sensations. I was happy for the friends that they are annulling and they’re being included in the work. The question is: the gratitude and the work in different duties etc., is that part of the prayer or is the prayer what accompanies these actions?

R. Both ways.

S. The action itself even without the inner dialogue is that prayer? Today in this duty, the women of the Italian groups, we thank you for all of you who have invested in organizing this celebration of the Creator.

20. S. (54:20) I am willing to give a little gift to the friends in my Ten, and that how amazing they are, how we love them and what a great example they are for me. I had a speech at the beginning of this Congress and I was so nervous that I forgot to thank you. Thank you for giving me the chance to start this Congress and thank you for the light and Kabbalah and what you are giving to us. Thank you for going the way to the light. I have two questions. I have no doubt about the Creator. He touched me a long time ago before I joined Kabbalah. How to bestow this to my friends when I have to annul myself in front of them?

R. We have to do this from day to day, always.

21. S. (57:57) We learned these three conditions, we know these words but they didn’t enter the heart, now there is a feeling that they are entering the heart, and these three conditions, two of them, they already exist in my emotion. The question is, according to the third condition, how can we clothe in someone who is asking for his life?

22. S. (59:19) It’s very obvious that during this Congress is probably the strongest prayer that  anyone has ever been, and my question is, what do we do when we’re out of the Congress with our prayer now, is it considered to be a preparation for another prayer or are they counting?

R. We need to everyday…

S. Those prayers count just as much?

R. Yes.

23. S. (01:00:44) Today you said that if the Creator isn’t answering it means he wants to reach out to him in a deeper level. What does it mean to reach out to him on a deeper level, what is that addition?

R.[No translation]

24. S. (01:01:41) You said that we need to get inspired by the friends, and I am inspired by the friends. I forget all of the evil and everything just passes in the mutual act of bestowal. Do friends feel my inspiration does it advance them or do I need to somehow convey this inspiration to them?

R. You have to accompany them constantly.

25. S. (01:02:50) How to work correctly with different temptations when you automatically are forced to reach out to the Creator, what work do we as Kabbalists have to do consciously when the sensations grasp on to you? How to pass this on correctly?

R. Build a clear path of a prayer starting with my heart through the hearts of the friends until the Creator.

S. Does that mean that I am giving my heart and also adding my mind to it?

R. Yes.

26. S. (01:04:00) Is there a corrected self if the friend sees me as corrected does that mean it exists, how can we direct it to strengthen faith? That we don’t feel the force of love but rejection?

R. As much as you connect with each other, as much as you will adhere to each other, as much as you feel that you think together and feel together, are close to each other, accordingly your prayer will be stronger and will oblige the Creator to help you. Then you will feel from the Creator in the connection between you what you received from Him.

S. What happens if one of the friends in the Ten does not have that strength?

R. Then you have to continue until you have it.

S. How can we take him out of this cloud?

R. Ask for the Creator for that for that too, that He will give you one for us to connect you “as one man with one heart” that, too, is a prayer that the Creator will answer.

27. S. (01:06:26) The Creator gave me an opportunity today to see how egoistic I am, how my heart is still closed and it doesn’t want to bring anyone into it, and what I thought until now about myself that I’m so good and nice it’s all an illusion. These possibilities to see me as my true self are not revealed every day, does that come from the Creator or me?

R. Depends on you, the Creator will not give you new feelings. If you want to aspire to be in connection with others, and in an emotional connection by connecting your desires and hearts, that’s all, and when you are at home then of course you don’t have that state, come more to our Congresses.

28. S. (01:08:17) There are three conditions in prayer, the first is faith, and the two other things are actually bringing us back to faith. The second and third conditions are very extreme from my heart, can I raise a prayer only with the first condition?

R. Act this way for the time being, that’s it let’s continue.

29. S. (01:09:26) What’s happening here now in this moment?

R. In this Moment depends on where everybody is in, but there’s a general force here that covers us, that fills us, an upper force, and as much as everyone can receive from you that depends on how much a person, how much preparation he has made for that.

30. S. (01:10:22) What should we put the emphasis on before the action and how can I be certain that the action is correct?

R. If you connect with your friends together, and if you study and read our sources, then definitely you are on the right path and there are the forces which bring you closer to the purpose of life.

31. S. (01:11:39) In the excerpt we read about the state where a person feels so bad he doesn’t want to live and is better off dead than alive. From that state he reaches out to the Creator, and here it is written that the word meaning lust, meaning in Hebrew Avoda and Arvut are similar words, work and lost. Why is it similar that when a person feels bad that from his nature he reaches out to the Creator. I don’t understand what the work here is, from this bad state to reach out to the Creator?

R. And from what state will we turn from Him, only when we feel bad.

S. So what is the work?

R. The work is in asking.

S. I thought the work is to ask for the others?

R. Yes for others.

S. Not when I’m suffering?

R. You’re right but still our whole work sums up to a request.

32. S. (01:13:47) It is written that we need to connect in iron chains and to that extent that prayer will be a very low state of suffering. That’s what it seems like. How can we leave room for happiness in such a state?

R. Don’t worry all these places will be built in the heart of each and every one of us and all of us together. All we have to do is try on a daily basis to be connected between us, to turn to the Creator and ask Him for corrections.

33. S. (01:15:15) Every state adds to the size and volume of the prayer until.. What level of the prayer do ten friends in one ten reach out of faith that the Creator can help?

R. If Ten people connect and turn to the Creator, then their prayer is whole, is absolute and the Creator surely hears it and answers it.

S. Can the size of prayer equalize the second condition?

R. Everything is going to be fine, just keep going.

34. S. (01:16:33) There’s sometimes a feeling that the heart gets tired very quickly from the prayer. What is the reason?

R. Because the prayers are against the desire of the heart. The heart wants to be filled with different things but not with prayers, not with deficiencies and therefore here we need the help of the friends. When we pray together, ask together then our prayer too will be stronger and the Creator will answer it faster. Good luck.

35. S. (01:17:39) How to raise in my friends the prayer from the bottom of the heart?

R. Try and talk about it. Try and you will see how much you can easily understand and manipulate things, turn things around.

36. S. (01:18:41) If there is such a feeling that the Creator has created our group through something great, I can’t do anything with this. My desire, my deficiency is to correct the world and my friends are supporting me in this. Is it egoistic or is there some sense for such a deficiency?

R. Of course you have a right. Every deficiency a person has is from the Creator and man has to keep on thinking what to do with those desires in order to come closer to the Creator.

37. S. (01:20:27) When we yearn to open the hearts and connect then we discover new walls between us, new colors and new shades of the ego. How can we quickly transition from sadness to joy and to gratitude to the Creator for the new degree?

R. It depends only on the intensity of your connections in the group, that’s it.

38. S. (01:21:54) We have many such examples in the ten for friends that are falling asleep. How can we maintain this tension between death and livelihood when our human nature is simply protecting itself? How can we not sleep and pass life in sleep?

R. Only through mutual prayer and all kinds of exercises, that’s it. Write during the lessons, do something that connects you to the text and learn this way.

39. S. (01:23:13) Even though our friends really wanted to come they weren’t able to, they didn’t make it because of corporeal disturbances. What can we do in order to remove disturbances, how to work in order to remove disturbances?

R. Our next Congress is in Turkey in January, and then I think there will not be any problem for them to make it to the Congress.

40. S. (01:24:33) It says in the article that prayer is the work of the heart, that the size of coarseness is the size of the prayer. How can we translate the work of the heart to work of the ten and what is the work of the heart?

R. I’m lost in this life, I don’t come closer to correction, I cannot connect to the friends, I cannot reach the Creator with my prayer, that means that I am lost. So as much as a person feels such feelings, accordingly you can say that he has a better preparation for prayer.

S. I feel that it’s from someone without a point in the heart or is it in relation to someone with a point in the heart?

R. We will continue and we’ll talk about it during our study. It’s not simple, your question is just.

41. S. (01:26:56) We are watching this Congress in front of screens and witness some precious moments even if it’s virtual. We find ourselves adhered to your rhythm, we see everyone embracing each other, loving, crying and dancing together in the same frame. It’s like there’s a barrier of love on top of you and this fits perfectly to the concept of Sukkot. Just like Rabash said we transcend our corporeal boundaries and many miles don’t stand between us now. All of this gives us a very pleasant feeling of love and wholeness. His question is how can we hold on to this mutual feeling, how can we protect and grow this all together?

R. Try to connect, that’s all we have to do. In the connection between us we discover everything we need in this world and the next world. All the degrees, all the problems we see through our connection, the entire world, the real world, everything only through the connection. We will succeed.

42. S. (01:29:15) A very powerful lesson, always when we speak of prayer. Baal HaSulam in his articles and letters calls out to us to not postpone what we can do now. Of course with the lesson about prayer you can’t not end it with a prayer and with something else. That’s why if you will allow us that now from the depth of our heart we will raise the prayer together if possible.

R. Yes.

S. Dear friends, now all of the Kabbalists are with us and Rav is with us, all of the world is with us, all the groups in all of the world are with us.
