Part 1:
The Time of The Giving of The Torah – Selected Excerpts from the Sources
1. Rav’s Introduction: (00:12) We need to understand that although this holiday kind of goes by as a certain process that is not too important but in truth it’s a very special time. It’s the beginning of the connection of all of humanity to the Upper Force to the Creator and this is what we are celebrating. Especially that from this moment on we are able to receive the connection and carry it out and connect to such an extent that it won’t be a kind of the same communication channel that we are used to but rather an ever increasing kind of connection, until we come to the point of Dvekut, adhesion. The holiday itself the giving of the Torah is a holiday that where the Creator gives us the connection with Him, the connection with the entire, true upper reality. It is this thread by which He wants to pull all of us out to the true world and not that we will continue to exist in this world which we imagine within our ego and is completely not real. Let’s begin.
Reading Excerpt 1. (02:54) “The Festival of Shavuot, the time of the giving..”
2. R. (04:04) Yes, this is basically the holiday that the light of Torah, Torah refers to the general light that works on all of created beings, that light is clothed in the heart of each and every one and all of us together. Alright, let’s continue.
3. S. (04:27) What does it mean that the Creator clothes the heart of a person, dresses the heart of each of us?
R. Man’s heart is man’s inner desire and the Creator as his goal, wants to open the heart, connect with it and fulfill the heart of each of us and all of us as one so that we can all fulfill themselves with the fulfillment of that light that comes from the Creator called Torah.
4. S. (05:22) We know that each and every one of us here has at some point in our life, our point in the heart awakens and that is why we are here but what is special that clothes us beyond the point in the heart?
R. The point in the heart does not clothe, it appears as existing in the heart of each and everyone. What clothes in the heart is the connection with the Creator of the Upper Light and that gives us connection between us and with the Creator.
S. Meaning that this period, meaning Shavuot could be any day in the year?
R. Yes.
S. What is special about this connection that’s being created between us and the Creator, is our effort easier, seemingly. What is special about this connection during this period of time?
R. What’s special is that we receive a connection, a line of connection with the Creator.
S. This line of connection is between us all of the time but what’s special about this period that is clarified in us as maybe better or more something, I don’t even know?
R. In this time there is a collective awakening and therefore we can use it so as to increase our connection with the Creator.
S. Meaning each and every one of us should give forth his effort as much as he can that will give us more nearness, closeness to the Upper Force?
R. Of course, yes.
Reading Excerpt 2. (07:51) “The Count from Passover to Shavuot…” Twice.
5. S. (10:26) What is the work in purification of the vessels in mind and heart?
R. That we want to purify the vessels, that means that all our desires which have an intention for themselves in order to receive, we want to shake them away from us or weaken them or neutralize them. That’s the preparation of the vessels towards Passover. Pesach means Pasach it refers to the boundary that we want to come out of in order to receive into in order to bestow and it happens through connection and recognition of what we have to do.
6. S. (11:39) What is the purification of the vessels altogether?
R. Purity or purification means that we summon or draw to our vessels, to our desires, the light that reforms and by the influence of the light these vessels leave the intentions to receive and connect with intentions to bestow. That’s in general how it works.
S. I heard that the time that we draw the light of the Torah upon us is in Shavuot but here he says actually that before Shavuot we do the purification of the vessel?
R. Yes, Shavuot is when we are already entering the vessels that we have tried to purify.
7. S. (12:44) From Passover to Shavuot, from the Exodus from Egypt to the time of the receiving of the Torah of what is this continuance of stages that are happening here?
R. It is the counting of the Omer, when we check how much of our vessels are being purified from in order to receive and slowly coming closer to in order to bestow.
S. The work is like a fast period that he goes through all of these stages, he exits Egypt until he gets the Torah, it is like one package until he gets many discernments or is it a period of years that the person goes through?
R. There is this and there is that, there is no time with regards to the Torah it could take decades, centuries, millennia.
S. Another question you opened the lesson, you said at the time of the receiving of the Torah is the time for all of humanity to connect to the Upper Force. Why all of humanity?
R. Because ultimately as it says, “My house shall be a house of prayer for all nations and for each and everyone,” and the people of Israel just have to do it first, because they have a preparation that comes from the Creator and they have to have this preparation in order to help and pass on to the rest of the nations, so they have to use it and also then pull themselves to the Creator.
S. Eventually it’s for all of humanity but at the beginning of the matter now who is this meant for, to us?
R. He writes in the article Matan Torah, that it is impossible to give this whole correction to all the nations that they can’t take it and use it correctly. Therefore, he chose a group, it’s not even a nation but a group who had a unique preparation for it and He gave it to them.
S. Do we need to take into account now all of humanity?
R. We are getting closer to it.
S. For what?
R. We are getting closer to where all of humanity has to accept this goal of being connected, becoming connected and thus seeing the goal through that. We have to explain this well again and again to everyone, that without that, both us and them won’t have any way to reach even within the framework of this world a good and peaceful life. It rather all depends on how we all connect to that lofty goal together, and it all depends first on that group of Israel.
8. S. (16:58) We read that in Shavuot it’s called time in which the Torah dresses in the soul of man, what is this thing that the Torah dresses in the soul?
R. Meaning that we begin to receive the light of Nefesh from above through our connection and it fulfills our tens and we begin to get into a process called Shavuot.
S. Until Shavuot what do we work with meaning there is no light that we work with what do they work with until Shavuot?
R. We invite the Upper Light upon us by prayers, requests, all kinds of actions but in truth the true light still doesn’t influence, because we are not yet connected. Our connection begins from the holiday of Shavuot.
S. All the processes that we go through until the point of the giving of the Torah, what are they actually?
R. They are preparations, preparations. That we try to connect and in our connection we try to be “As one man in one heart,” meaning compatible with the Upper Light and then the Upper Light gradually comes closer, so from that side we feel Dinim [judgments] and on the other hand as we come closer to each other it starts shining upon us.
S. What happens in this standing, in specifically there this first connection takes place? What happens in Shavuot, in the giving of the Torah that this creates this difference that they are all of a sudden given the Torah?
R. Because they have already achieved a desire that they are willing to give up the egoistic connection between them and therefore they receive Torah; the force of connection.
S. Was there no desire to give up prior to that for each to give up his ego?
R. It’s a gradual process, they weren’t aware of it, they didn’t think, they didn’t understand that they have to transcend their nature that much.
S. Prior to the standing of the giving of the Torah was there a group or is this the place where the group is created?
R. The group is formed in the process of the Exodus from Egypt, and when they come to Mount Sinai and there they basically begin to connect and understand that their connection gives them some unique form in the process of correction that they’re connection builds them. I don’t know what to add it ‘s so clear.
S. Simply what I’m trying to grasp is why specifically at this standing at Mount Sinai did they manage to come to being “As one man in one heart?” Did they manage to be in, “We shall do and we shall hear?”
R. Because that was against the slavery that they felt in the will to receive in Pharaoh, so this leap gave them a feeling of how they rise above their nature and wish to reach the opposite.
S. Qualitatively, what’s the addition that they added?
R. That at first they were each locked up in their will to receive and they had no way of coming out of it and connecting to the whole, to the others. Whereas now they are able to each transcend oneself and the connection that they can attain can take them out to a spiritual degree.
9. S. (23:07) There’s a group that connects and it connects more and more until they reach “As one man in one heart,” and that’s a state of equivalence with the Creator? And that’s even more the reception of the Torah?
R. Basically, yes.
S. That’s the question: what’s the Torah and we seemingly have done the work already?
R. No, the initial connection between us it’s not that something happens with us, it’s just the beginning of understanding the style of the work but afterwards we begin to work with the light that reforms in Torah and Mitzvot. Meaning that we connect ourselves in such a way that we understand how to connect and each time we don’t understand, we fall, we decline and then we do get closer and understand and that’s how we advance.
S. It’s like the force of connection accompanies the group all the time and that’s what we call the Creator, this is what we call the Creator to begin with. In the reception of the Torah what is the major qualitative change that takes place, that before that the unity was in preparation and now unity with the Torah, what’s the difference?
R. This is similar to an embryo that comes to such a development that it begins to somewhat live in its mother’s womb and provides for itself all kinds of needs and the same with us, that’s the form of development.
S. Meaning at some point the Torah adds independence, it gives another step of independence and that of the created being, but even before that it operates. What is that click, that understanding of this reception of the Torah that needs to be defined like that’s where you receive the Torah?
R. When we now know with what force, with what system we can raise ourselves all the way to the Creator’s level, when we see from one end to the other as it says.
10. S. (26:22) What is the difference between the light that operates on the group until the time of the reception of the Torah and from the time of the reception of the Torah?
R. Until the time of reception of the Torah the light that works it is surrounding light and not directed towards anyone but just that everyone is in kind of like being in a fog. However, the light that shines from the time of reception of the Torah onwards is already a directed light, that it has a direction and it works through selection. Meaning connecting itself to this and those and those and by that, the light itself begins to work in correcting all of the human beings in that group according to its nature and meaning they already have a personal development.
S. What is the difference in the work until the reception of the Torah and from the time of the reception of the Torah?
R. Until the time of reception of the Torah the difference is that they all develop just like we see in our world that how all the organisms have evolved which was sort of a pre-development. And from the time of the reception of the Torah onwards, each and everyone begins to receive a more and more individual influence. Therefore they already undergo a process of scrutiny, who belongs to who, who clothes to who, through what kind of connection, what mutual assistance and so forth.
S. At the standing of Mount Sinai is that where the nation is born?
R. Yes.
S. What is the individual work at this time?
R. Even though it’s a nation, each and everyone has a role in which he feels and understands.
S. And what is the work now as a nation?
R. The work as a nation that they need to bring themselves to connection between them and to their connection with the Creator so that from the Creator through them, all people of the world will receive the Upper Force.
11. S. (30:02) Could you please clarify what it means to receive the Torah or to receive the light?
R. We will learn that from all of the verses.
12. S. (30:17) What does it mean that the Torah dresses the soul of a person, how did the Torah take place prior to the dressing in the soul of man and what happened to the soul while it dressed inside of a person?
R. The Torah is the Upper light that comes to us from the Creator on the condition that we are ready that we are rewarded to receive it to develop by it, that is called Torah.
13. S. (31:03) My ten is making good connections, what do we need to maximize in the holiday of Shavuot?
R. To nullify before what the ten does first of all and then participate full force in what they do.
14. S. (31:22) How can we be sensitive to the point in the hearts of the friends to connect together?
R. To be more sensitive to the collective heart of the group. I don’t have the words, we just have to try and nullify towards them. I don’t have the words, not at the moment.
Reading Excerpt 3 (32:33) “The days of the Count Point to Unity,..”
15. S. (33:47) To correct the measure of unity, what is that?
R. It’s to bring them to a higher, tighter unity; stronger.
S. What is unity?
R. Unity means that each one adds to the other what the other lacks, what the other lacks and we are built in such a way that we always have where to add.
16. S. (34:36) When the Torah clothes in the soul what changes take place? We learned that the Torah is something that either corrects or fills?
R. Light of Torah is the general Upper Force which works on both the understanding, the feeling, the connection and how to direct a person to the right direction; all of that is called the light of Torah.
S. Can you feel it somehow between us?
R. A person feels it in his desire, meaning in his heart
S. Prior to the beginning of the holiday you said that this holiday we need to feel like real Kabbalists in the light of the Torah? What efforts should we do?
R. The light of Torah can be felt either in our will to bestow or in our will to receive, that we are connected between us in the intention to bestow, so this will be the light of Hassidim or the light of Hochma. We will talk about that more.
17. S. (36:25) The state that we are receiving is starting to shine to us in the vessels of reception or is it the very reception of the matter, a condition for us not to fall like there’s some kind of persistent process of ascents, descents, ascents, descents?
R. When we will get to that you will feel what’s the process that you are going through.
18. S. (37:06) At the beginning of the lesson you talked about the fact that the Creator is giving us the connection with Him, the connection with the Upper reality like a string that wants to take us to the real world. What is the tip of this rope that comes all the way, our way and have to know that this rope really comes from the Upper Light?
R. We don’t know but if we connect we try to connect based on the advice of Kabbalists, then the light immediately for certain works on us and begins to change us to raise us, to work out a new connection between us and so forth.
19. S. (38:10) According to the excerpt that we have read there was before Passover purity in terms of faith. You said these are vessels of bestowal and then with the aspect of heart and soul of the Torah which are the vessels of Malchut and it is receiving in order to bestow, is that correct?
R. We will learn it. I am asking you to be in the same framework of what we are studying, all of us now.
S. In the state of Mount Sinai do we move from each one’s individual deficiency to a collective deficiency, which is called the nation from a female Nukva perspective?
R. Go slow, bit by bit, yes.
20. S. (39:30) What moves the hearts of friends to long for connection?
R. Firstly, the point in the heart that exists in each one and example from the friends, that’s two, and in these two, the action of the Creator on them which is three.
21. S. (40:06) I heard that we can’t receive the Torah if we are not connected. What is the expression of the connection of “One man in one heart?”
R. Our Ibur, [gestation], altogether is where we are all about to connect all together even though we are all different, meaning how can we be as one by us wanting to add each to all and then we can connect “As one man in one heart.”
22. S. (41:24) He writes that in the commandment of “Love thy friend as thyself,” all the Torah depends that went there is peace between Israel and the Shechina dwells among them. My question is based on what he says here. How do we come to that love, to have the Torah? If you can explain what he writes, and they travel from Rephidim and came to the Sinai Desert where they received the Torah and Israel camped there before the mountain, what does that mean?
R. It’s that they want to be connected but they don’t know how to reach it because on the other hand they feel the hatred.
S. Now what he says here: how do we transcend that hatred and receive that love so that we can receive the Torah?
R. This is considered to be standing before the mountain.
S. What is that?
R. That there is a mountain before them that they need to rise above but they don’t have any forces or counsels to come to that.
S. From whom do you receive these forces and advice?
R. From connection between them and the Creator.
S. Was there a guide to take them there?
R. Yes, Moses guides them not also in ways, it’s not that he is just giving them a prescription for life, but they rather each time it gives them a little and they advance as much as they can, and then again they cry out and again it is cared for, and again Moses gives them some kind of help and this is how we advance, through ascents and descents.
23. S. (43:38) What is the difference between before the reception of the Torah and after in our connection?
R. All that we wanted to do prior to the reception of the Torah, after the reception of the Torah, we seemingly can do. For it to be together in one heart, in one desire and from it to turn to the Creator, so that the Creator will hear and help us.
S. After the reception of the Torah there is still hatred between us?
R. After the reception of the Torah?
S. Yes.
R. Sometimes. yes.
S. And the initial connection before the reception of the Torah, what kind of deficiency do we have to have to receive the Torah?
R. That’s in the connection between us we feel that we can be saved from all of the problems, from all of the troubles.
S. But that’s the initial trigger that brought us to connection, now there’s some kind of connection between us from which we need to raise a prayer, some prayer of many between us to receive the Torah. What greater quality is there now in our prayer in this deficiency?
R. We need to feel the result of our forces, that as a result of our forces we are all included in one ten.
S. This means that now after we came to some connection from some separation, so it’s not clear. I can’t grasp it because we have come to the initial connection with the same demand that there’s some force that will take us out of Egypt. Now I understand there is something that separates us and how we demand it and now we have to receive some light or some Torah with which we do some work, but what more qualitative now in our work?
R. It would be more qualitative in our group when we are connected to the Upper Force and not when we can by the force that we’re now discovered do something on our own.
S. What do we do now when we feel this connection to the Upper One? What kind of work between us is there now?
R. Our usual work is to be more and more connected.
S. And it will always be through the prayer between us, yes?
R. Yes, the principle is the prayer. Okay, this needs to still be clarified.
Reading Excerpt 4. (47:21) “In the Time of the Giving of the Torah,..”
24. S. (48:28) What does it mean they journeyed, that’s a movement they do together?
R. Yes, it’s the movement that they do together and from one desire to the next they advance between them and that’s how they come close to the Creator.
S. How do we make a movement together?
R. We overcome their ego and start to feel the other.
S. But again each one feels the other, it’s described that they moved from one state to another as a group, as a ten, they moved from one state to another state?
R. Yes, whereas in the second state they are more connected and therefore understand the Creator better, feel Him and are closer to the goal.
25. S. (49:32) In the previous item and this one too, there is the matter of camping. He wrote there that they camped there in one heart, in love and brotherhood and in the other excerpt he wrote they camped against the mountain. What is the camping in the work?
R. We always have these parkings, these encampments. There’s a great matter here because sometimes they can advance a day or two to come to some place and to live in that place for a month or two. And then again to rest, after that awaken again, and then go for another day or two and then go and be in some place for a few months, meaning that it’s not like it seems to us, that an encampment is just rest: to park, to camp is connection where everything that they went through influences the connection between them, where they implement the new connection.
S. Implement and collect new strength for the next step. Is there such a thing?
R. Yes, yes.
26. S. (51:12) We have to be “as one man in one heart,” right? And other than being, “as one man in one heart,” we also need to bestow to the friend, so on the one hand I have to feel all of us as one man, on the other hand I have to feel like there is someone else who is not me to bestow to. So on the one hand “as one man in one heart,” on the other hand, it is someone else that I have to bestow to, so what is the difference?
R. We need to feel the gap from each of us that we each feel and what each of us feels himself but this gap is the exact vessel that we need to rise above.
27. S. (52:32) You said that we need to give examples to the friends all the time. So according to what actions can I, what actions can I use to give good examples to the friends?
R. According to what examples or actions?
S. Yes.
R. Well you simply are concerned with them having conditions to study, for everyone to have a place during the study, for them to receive what they are missing for being together. I don’t know, it is something that a person needs to feel naturally.
S. So with my friend if my friend sees me he needs to feel the importance of the Creator?
R. Yes.
S. Because he needs to say now I see the friend and I see the greatness of the Creator, so how can I give that?
R. How can you give him such a feeling? From heart to heart without words. You want him to feel in his heart just like you feel in your heart.
28. S. (55:00) What does it mean to journey from idleness and separation?
R. To try to distance oneself from as much as possible from this and try to come to connection.
S. Is it some decision that we do? Do we say from now on we journey from it, how does it work?
R. How does this work? Try to define such things between you and you will see these are emotional things, things of sensation, it’s hard to explain them in words.
S. That’s exactly the issue. What, we have to talk about it and decide that we do it. How do we really make sure that this decision happens?
R. Only in actions, only from these actions.
S. Let’s say we have decided and we are doing this action. How does it then become love and brotherhood like he writes here? How does this transition happen that there’s suddenly a decision and everything inverts from hate to love?
R. That is by doing it in the group so all of our small forces connect and operate as one force and the Creator from above gives into this force; vitality. Try to implement this and you will see that this is how it works.
29. S. (57:20) We hear a lot about love, love, love, everyone loves and so on. What is it about love, this concept of love that we can’t reach it? What is there in love?
R. It has a connection between the shattered vessels for them to connect between them and through their connection feel the essence of the general vessel and the Creator in it stabilizing it.
S. In essence we understand what love is, we love the children.
R. No, no, that is something completely different.
S. What is the difference?
R. I don’t want to talk about the difference because there’s no connection between one and the other.
S. Why?
R. Because it’s just words, love.
S. So what is that love, what is that love that we all yearn for and we can’t reach?
R. We yearn for the love of connection between us, because specifically from the connection between us we feel unity. And this unification is already the quality of the Creator which we love. That’s what raises us, rises us upwards.
S. We really receive love, we love the friend, from the heart all of a sudden, we love everyone as a result?
R. More than anything, more than ourselves.
S. So basically it’s not related to this physical world, that love?
R. What does it have to do with the physical world?
S. This world that we live in because you say it is not the love of children, it’s not the love of your wife, it’s something above essentially?
R. Love which operates above the natural distancing that there is naturally between people.
S. So as a result of our work we can reach that love, go above our hatred so on?
R. Yes.
30. S. (01:00:00) We always talk about the connection, to connect more and more. Is there a way that the ten can examine itself to see how connected it is?
R. To what extent, no, measures it cannot check.
S. And whether yes or no?
R. If yes or no they can according to the signs that there are between them, that are in the direction of connection or in the direction of separation.
S. But if we check in the ten, let’s say and each one says what he thinks about the connection, one will say that he feels connection, the other says he feels less maybe, so how do we know our state accordingly?
R. We don’t know, we don’t know, we know that we have a direction, that we need to come closer to a state, a place but no more than that.
31. S. (01:01:18) In the excerpt we read he puts the two concepts of idleness and separation together. Does idleness lead to separation?
R. Yes, of course because we’re not adding sufficient forces to connection.
S. What do you recommend for a ten that feels idleness at the center?
R. It’s hard to recommend, it’s hard to advise you.
S. And as an individual, if I feel laziness, what do you do in your experience?
R. Try to adhere to such people that are in actions, there’s nothing else to be able to do. One will help his friend.
32. S. (01:02:32) How can we describe love without self-love?
R. I don’t know how to describe that but we will get there and we will see what it is.
33. S. (01:02:51) When we connect “as one man in one heart,” what depends on me and what depends on the Creator to realize this goal?
R. Everything depends on me and the Creator helps and supports and draws but in actuality all the beginning of the work is in me, even though it is written, “I am first and I am last,” but we need to see it as it all depends on us.
34. S. (01:03:20) My ten is powerless. We tried everything, scrutinies, example, prayer and the friends cannot wake up even though they really want to, what else can we do?
R. Pray, I would say, if you really tried everything and nothing helps, then probably the Creator is demanding a prayer from you; for you to pray and ask, that’s how it is,
35. S. (01:04:08) If the Torah is received in our ten, will we feel a better understanding of how to work with the states we go through? Will we understand the words of the Kabbalists in a new way?
R. It all depends on the connection between us, if we connect more, then we will understand more. That’s how it is.
36. S. (01:04:31) What exactly should each friend add? Do you mean that I have to ask for each and every friend?
R. That’s also correct, that I need to ask for each and everyone.
37. S. (01:05:00) In this state that we are in now, what kind of awakening do we need to have now after all of the seven weeks that we’ve been through?
R. What kind of transition that needs to happen?
S. What’s the status or the state from our part, we are in this morning lesson of Shavuot, what is required and expected of us to awaken?
R. What’s expected from us is for us to want to discover in us such a connection, to such an extent that is so special that the Torah is revealed in it, meaning a unified, unique system that within the system we will feel forces, we will feel a new state.
S. What would you like to happen from us now?
R. Besides connection there is nothing else to want; just to be in connection, for each to feel through his ten, his connection with the rest of the friends that are here and are in all of the world, men with men, women with women, in the entire framework of the world Bnei Baruch, that’s what I would want.
S. It feels like the same request all the time. It doesn’t matter if it’s yesterday or what you’re saying now.
R. Did I say it that way yesterday also?
S. I hear you everyday you say the same: just connect. What is special today in these lights of the Shavuot holiday?
R. Today we are before a holiday which is nevertheless an important, special time in general and we want the light that operates on that day, that general light to impact us, to influence us and this is how it will work. It will be able to stabilize us correctly, it all depends on connection and the connection depends on a willingness for connection.
38. S. (01:08:28) I understood that a person needs to add greatness of the Creator to his friends, to give them an example, by wanting them to feel in their heart what he feels in his heart, but if a person doesn’t feel greatness of the Creator, what can he add to the friends?
R. Whatever the system can supply each and every one of us.
S. What can the system provide each and everyone?
R. One doesn’t feel, the second doesn’t feel, the third doesn’t feel that he feels but it doesn’t matter what but if they all connect, eventually what turns out from it is a vessel that the Creator can impact and bestow to.
S. That’s clear, the question is: what can each friend add, what does he have to add, one who has greatness of the Creator that’s clear, he wants the friends to feel the greatness of the Creator in their hearts, from heart to heart?
R. Well and what does he want them to feel, they cannot feel.
S. I don’t know, that’s what you answered to the friend, that he has to want the friends to feel it in their heart, and if he wants it but they can’t feel it, then what?
R. Right, it’s upon that the general deficiency grows.
S. Where, in the person?
R. In them, in the group, that’s how they come closer to the true prayer.
S. How does their general deficiency grow if the friend feels the greatness of the Creator and they don’t?
R. They feel that they’re being drawn to the greatness of the Creator as well and more than likely several of them have it but not everyone and then they connect between them.
S. Is there a different kind of work between the different states when there is greatness of the Creator or there isn’t, what can the friend add?
R. Each time the work is different.
S. So what can the friend add when he has greatness of the Creator and when he doesn’t?
R. Did you see a little boat sailing upon high waves, that’s how we are all the time, this is how we need to see ourselves.
S. Ourselves or the ten?
R. Ourselves, meaning the ten.
S. And in the ten that’s already all of us are there?
R. Yes.
S. So some friends don’t have an awakening and inspiration right now and some do have, what’s the role of both of them on top of the waves now in the ten?
R. To connect.
S. That’s the question: what each one contributes to the connection?
R. To come to the common goal.
S. Their general direction is towards the common goal, the present state is that some are inspired and awakened and some are not?
R. Connect in such a way that the friend will have it.
S. So a friend who is inspired what does it mean for him to add to the connection?
R. That he passes his impression to the others.
S. How, from heart to heart? But if he has and you don’t, it’s like what you told me, what if he wants but they don’t feel it?
R. You do all kinds of actions including prayer because he wants them to feel what’s in his heart and take it.
S. And that works?
R. He wants it to be this way.
S. And then what comes out of that?
R. Eventually they connect.
S. And the friend who doesn’t have greatness of the Creator or inspiration, what does he add to the connection?
R. He has hope to receive from them.
S. What does he need to do in order to receive from them?
R. To connect to them as much as he can.
S. But what can he add to the connection, can he add something or he only receives?
R. He can add.
S. To what?
R. The fact that he doesn’t understand, he doesn’t feel, he doesn’t want it, he feels himself disconnected, all those negative things also add to the connection.
S. He has to take into account that I am now adding my negativity to the connection?
R. Who is he?
S. The friend who now feels that disconnect?
R. Yes.
S. So he still wants to add now?
R. What can he add other than the feeling of disconnection?
S. That’s my question: what can he add if he’s disconnected?
R. His deficiency.
S. How does he add it?
R. Through crying, if he has nothing to add then only crying.
S. And a friend who feels that this is more or less his ordinary state, that he has nothing to add, what do you do in that state?
R. He’s willing to connect with others and with everything he’s got and help them out.
S. Another question: I heard today that first the work is in submitting oneself and annulling oneself, what does the annulment have to do with the work that you explained?
R. I annul myself toward the friends, toward the group and I follow them wherever they go.
S. Now this is the work of both a friend who is inspired and also the one who is not?
R. Yes.
S. How does the one who inspired annul himself?
R. According to his impression.
S. But if he’s inspired and feels the goal and is pushing everyone forward, how does he nullify himself?
R. Doesn’t he have an ego, there’s nothing to overcome?
S. So he also has to look for what to overcome?
R. So how can I seek what to overcome and also to get what is in his heart?
S. And the friend who doesn’t feel inspiration, how does he annul himself?
R. Yes, to take impression, inspiration from others, he has to subjugate himself and connect to them and be like a little child, and in this way that he connects. These things come to a person even if he doesn’t ask for it or demand it, it happens throughout the work, through the work, it’s like in the military.
39. S. (01:16:48) First we talked about parking that’s written in these excerpts and then I thought about another excerpt, where it’s the song about parking. Where if you park, then you will not see it in this heart but now with all the world Kli here, let us sing this song, so if you let me explode into a song.
40. S. (01:18:40) In the first excerpt it’s written that the light of the Torah influences the heart. We know that all the actions are carried out by Malchut, how does this change take place in order to move the cart forward toward connection? How do we use that properly?
R. Did you understand what he’s asking, most of them were not able to understand. We are unable to go into the depth of your question.
S. We’re built from heart and mind, meaning the Creator operates us through these two means, the light of the Torah influences the heart, how does the heart pass that to Malchut so that Malchut will carry out the actions, because only the actions will work for us here?
R. The heart is the Malchut itself.
41. S. (01:19:48) Is the correct love I need to yearn for is not to love the friends but to love the connection between us?
R. Yes, you are correct because the connection between us, when I love that, it’s a degree higher than each one of us independently.
42. S. (01:20:55) Why is it possible to receive the reception of the Torah before we have the hatred? Why is it impossible to receive the Torah before we have hatred at Mount Sinai?
R. You will receive the Torah, what for if you don’t reveal the hate, the repulsion, the separation? Why do you need the Torah, it says, “I created the evil inclination, I created the Torah as a spice.” If you don’t have it, why do you need the Torah, why receive it, let’s say you have beautiful, good, beautiful people on planet Earth that treat each other well and they have good connection with one another, they don’t need the Torah, you need to understand, the Torah was given to the wicked, it was given to the wicked. He created the evil inclination, He created the Torah as a spice, the Creator says it’s so directly.
Reading number 5 (01:23:00) “We count 49 days..” Twice
43. S. (01:26:45) What’s the meaning everything was okay. Omer is Seorim [barley] and that’s where Seorim [measures] comes from? Where it remains in the heart, the Creator, where each one remains in His heart and that is called the discernment of faith. Now that means that he’s called a beast and then there’s this explanation that the beast’s food is barley, meaning he hasn’t been awarded with the Torah but on Shavuot we make wheat which is food for man, the speaking degree and we rise to holiness. I don’t understand when he reaches faith, why is it called beast because faith is bestowal in order to bestow? Why is that called beast here in the excerpt?
R. Because the light of faith, the light of Hassadim is still the degree of beast.
S. Bestowal in order to bestow if it’s Hesed?
R. Yes.
S. So man is only love, reception in order to bestow?
R. Bestow in order to bestow is still only the correction, it precedes in order to bestow, it precedes the true act of giving.
S. So as long as we’re not in Lo Lishma we are beasts?
R. Yes.
44. S. (01:28:25) It’s written to leave room in his heart for the greatness of the Creator. What does it mean to measure in his heart the greatness of the Creator?
R. When a person has to constantly walk with an open heart to receive as much as possible, impressions from the greatness of the Creator, so that each and every moment in his life he expects to feel more and more the greatness of the Creator that fills all of reality and builds tomorrow.
45. S. (01:29:29) He says that the beast eats barley for itself and man he camps there, he uses these measures in order to give, to offer. So once there’s this angle of work and another angle of work, so how do we use these measures so we don’t eat this barley like beasts and we can put it out to offer, to give it to others, to the Creator, how do we make that transition?
R. We try to imagine these corrected states this way.
S. It seems in our work that we use Kabbalists texts and lessons in order to increase connection between us and to that to increase the deficiency for bestowal. But this connection between us, it’s unclear how it can go out to others, sometimes it becomes expressed in small things, other times in great things and big things. For example there’s a ten that has a problem, it’s a moment that shakes you and then it leaves your mind and then let’s say a friend has a problem, you don’t succeed to live this problem like he lives the problem, so tens that are united and working together in workshops and have good connection but doesn’t turn into some quality where we succeed to dress it on us and then that acts outwardly, I don’t know how to express it?
R. We shall scrutinize it.
46. S. (01:32:00) I’m inspired by the friend, how he wants love to live.
47. S. (01:32:23) I wanted to ask you earlier, what does it mean to live in the greatness of the Creator?
R. You mean recognizing the greatness of the Creator? We don’t know it, we just received a little bit of impression about the greatness of the Creator, NRNHY of NRNHY of NRNHY. And by that we come closer to recognizing Him and getting to know Him. That’s it.
S. Why is it so that only in the ten and the morning lessons I can feel the greatness of the Creator. On my own behalf I never have it, but whenever I give to others or whenever I hear things from others, only at that time do I feel some kind of feeling of that?
R. That’s correct, it’s actually correct, because you’re not being confused from above, rather they let you feel the Creator truly in states where you can actually feel Him. If you’d be alone and not in contact with the group, how would you reveal the Creator? That’s unrealistic.
S. What I understood from the questions that were earlier, was the unity between us, when we unite and awaken something common, this common feeling, is that the Creator that we want?
R. No, we never reveal the Creator, we reveal on ourselves His qualities and so gradually we advance towards getting to know Him.
