Part 1:
Lishma is called “truth”, Lo Lishma is called “a lie” – Selected Excerpts from the sources
1. Rav’s Introduction: (00:32) I think that I don’t have much to add to this. Lishma is called the truth, meaning that we do everything for the sake of the Creator and all of our actions are in order to connect and direct ourselves to Him and the opposite of that is of course a lie because it does not coincide with the purpose of creation and with the laws of creation and it only confuses us on the path and it stops us. We, by this, prolong the time and the distance and the process that we have to go through and so this is what I can say. So please.
Reading Excerpt #1 ( 01:41) “As long as one has not been rewarded..” Twice.
2. S. (05:34) What’s the connection between Lishma and seeing the world as being governed as the Good that does Good?
R. The Creator leads the world as the Good and does Good that’s on a permanent form and that doesn’t change into less or more but rather it is always so. Rather, all the changes are in the person and of course he doesn’t appear to the person this way that all the changes are in him and it all depends on him, it seems to him that it happens in the Creator. This is why we have to correct ourselves to a state where we will always have intentions and desires and relations such that they will all be directed towards bestowal and then we will see that the Creator’s relation is always the one who bestows good. This will answer all of our questions and all of our doubts.
3. S. (07:06) When a person wants to be in Lishma what is that state? Is it also false? Is it a preparation for the truth? What is that intermediate state?
R. It’s not that he truly wants to be in Lishma but he already understands that Lishma is the truth and that it is worthwhile to reach such a state of Lishma in order to understand creation, to agree with creation and to agree with the Creator who advances towards the purpose of creation. This is what draws him.
S. Even when he is in falsehood he can see the truth?
R. Even when he is in a lie, he can see that he’s in a lie. This is our state that we gradually discover that we exist in our life, and it is worthwhile for us to shift to the opposite qualities that are opposite that. Yes this is our work as much as we will try to determine this between us in the tens as much as we will ask the Creator, this is how we will advance.
S. How out of the reality of falsehood do we see or prefer the truth? Do we start living in the truth or preferring the truth even though we are not in it?
R. Bit by bit we get closer to each other. We read articles and materials about bestowal, about love, about connection and this all influences us. Then we begin to understand how much we are the opposite of the corrected state. Here there is a question, are we going forward so that they keep correcting us or do we live in that state? There are those who, bit by bit leave, they feel that this is work, hard work, that we have to think about it, that we have to invest time in it and give it room and this is how they spend their lives.
That’s it.
4. S. (10:08) What does it mean on this point to continue when we discover that we are in falsehood and we are in that place? What does it mean to continue?
R. To continue meaning to follow all the advice of the Kabbalists that they wrote for us that we have to be connected in a Ten and a rise in the degrees of connection in the Ten as Rabash writes for us. That’s it, to build connection between us, to help each other, to build in the ten the same conditions as we studied that they need to be in the last generation.
5. S. (11:05) How to come to a state of not feeling myself inside the Ten and not feeling the friends but rather to see and feel the Creator? How do we come to that point?
R . We have to connect all of these things together, the friends and the Creator and the ten and in general the whole of reality, it is all a single system. Only in the inner, broken system of each one of us we see it as broken and in this order not connected and so as much as we try to put it together, accordingly we come closer to the revelation of the Creator of this system.
6. S. ( 12:21) What is the state that he writes about studying Torah Lishma?
S. One who learns Torah Lishma that he is studying in order to reach bestowal, to resemble the Creator and this will give him his purpose, that’s his purpose. This is considered that he’s learning Lishma, he hasn’t yet reached Lishma, he hasn’t yet studied Lishma but he is with such a yearning, he has this direction.
7. S. (13:18) Is it thanks to the quality in the work in Lishma that the person sees the truth or does he first see the governance, the providence of the good that does good and then start to work Lishma?
R. Well you start from the end, so first he longs to reach Lishma, meaning that all of his thoughts and actions will be similar to the Creator and then out of that as much as he advances, he begins to feel Lishma more and more. There are degrees in that and this is how he begins to get to know it.
8. S. (14:39) When we reach the truth in equivalence of form what will exactly be our action at that point?
R. Our active action, operation will be connection between us so that out of the connection between us we will be directed towards the Creator.
9. S. (15:04) Should we play with the falsehood that we are revealing that we are a part of Him? Should we collaborate with the falsehood?
R. Why? I don’t know what they mean? Should we go along with a lie? We need to try as much as possible to disconnect from the lie, to rise above it.
10. S. (15:35) Are there degrees of Lishma?
R. Of course, in each and every degree you have a different intention of Lishma.
11. S. (15:54) What is a person who is qualified to see the truth?
R. That he has qualities from birth such that he’s closer to the attainment of Lishma.
S. Is it like you always told us that out of a thousand only one […]
R. It is written that a thousand enter the room and only one comes out to the light. This is how it is written, in general it was written 2,000 years ago, but yes, in each one there is a different route from whichever place he came from in the system of Adam HaRishon. The system was divided, it was broken and all of its parts moved away from each other so it turns out that each one of us has his own element, his own record of where he’s now. This is why we are all different and what we need to do well, we all need to do the same work. It’s in our little groups who try to connect between us. What Rabash and Baal HaSulam write for us but this is actually the work.
S. If I take the approach of one who will help his friend in the Ten, are we actually by that qualifying each and every one of us to be able to reach the goal?
R. Well this is actually what was written. Yes.
12. S. (18:07) Can you open the state a little bit if I understood correctly a person feels that he is in a state of falsehood meaning that he defines the state that is in is now a lie, it’s not a simple state to be in to live in this falsehood, how can you live in such a state? What is this?
R. It is a fact that what we see is a false world. It is what we see, we think it’s all a lie because it’s all with an inclination towards oneself.
S. The fact that it is all inclined to himself does it mean that it’s a falsehood, it’s a lie, it says here?
R. Well if he doesn’t feel it then he’s altogether in concealment within concealment.
S. To live in a falsehood and a lie is difficult?
R. Let’s say.
S. So it’s something that a person lives in by living a lie?
R. We all live in a lie and we all shut our eyes as much as whatever they have, whatever they do, whatever they receive and all of their principles, they just keep living.
S. Wonderful, so for them it’s easy for them to close their eyes, it’s easy?
R. Each one of us does that.
S. But here we are talking about a person who decides that I am living in a lie because I am living in Lishma.
R. Right.
S. What is this state? How does one live with this?
R. He lives with it because he has no choice but then he tries to come out of it with all of the opportunities that he has.
S. How to say shut his eyes? How does this make him weak from this, living in a lie? How can he move one step forward?
R. Well living in a lie that is the reality but it is possible to come out of its reality you were given the Torah ,which is the upper force, the upper light so that we are able to come out of it.
S. Meaning he feels that there is hope for him to go out to the truth while he’s in a state that he decides that is Lo Lishma, it’s called a lie?
R. Yes, even though he determines that he has no hope but he still cannot remain in that state he has to perform actions so that maybe they will bring him closer to Lishma.
S. So from being in this discernment of Lo Lishma is called a lie, so it’s not that he says that it’s not the truth but there is also a discernment called Lo Lishma?
R. Yes, he takes a lot of time but this is what he begins to feel.
S. He says that this main discernment maybe Rabash expresses one of them but is it specifically the fact that the purpose of creation is to delight his creatures that the person feels that it is a lie because he’s opposite that that is called that is Lo Lishma is called a falsehood. Why is it specifically that discernment there are many discernments for example the fact that it is all in reception and that the Creator is all bestowing. Why is it the purpose of creation is to delight his creatures and he feels the opposite of that, that’s the discernment of not Lishma being called a lie?
R. It doesn’t matter which way you say that does not matter because it all really plays with or relates to the will to receive. There is no difference in how you put it.
S. I didn’t understand what does it mean that everything plays towards the will to receive?
R. If I work in favor of the will to receive the will to receive is called a lie. If I work in order to rise above it and perform the opposite actions then each then it is called a lie?
S. Why is that also called a lie as long as he’s not in Lishma?
R. But he’s performing actions towards that so already I am doing some work some certain actions which are above the will to receive.
13. S. (22:49) In Lo Lishma you choose a lie because it’s sweet or because you think it’s the truth?
R. It depends on the person’s state. There are those who don’t care if it’s the truth or not the truth so long as it is sweet. That’s it. There are those who must know, is it the truth or is it a lie and according to truth or false they are adhered to that state. Let’s say that suddenly to receive a bank transfer of one million dollars just like that, they send it to you by mistake, now you can sit quietly and use the money and your whole prayer is that no one will know about it. I see according to your face that you agree. That’s it, meaning it depends on what you are yearning for there are calculations here.
14. S. (24:13) Who uses this excerpt here that is rewarded as long as he’s not rewarded with Lo Lishma?
R. Because it’s all about being rewarded if the Creator comes closer to you how the upper light comes close to you it doesn’t matter.
S. We are all laboring, all exerting, we are all performing work, doing something to get to it?
R. The question is whether this work is sufficient that it is directed correctly, organized correctly, established correctly.
S. Assuming the more that we work the more we will be precise we will rise we will form we will be more precise we will be more aimed towards it but in the end it is work it’s exertion so why is it called a reward is rewarded yet or isn’t rewarded yet?
R. Because you get it from above you get it from above nevertheless. The Creator is not obligated to you in each and everything he’s above you without an egoistic desire without any egoistic calculation. He wants to give you everything but it is all to your benefit and here you may make a mistake, where you think that the Creator doesn’t want it, He very much wants to promote us and to give us all the good in Lishma. However, the fact is because we are not ready, He suffers this is called the sorrow of the Shechina and so we have to invest more and more effort in order to give him the possibility to bestow to us.
S. We are putting forth our efforts?
R. We are putting in efforts in order to give Him the possibility to bestow to us.
S. It’s like work and reward you receive a certain payment for the work?
R. No, it’s not exactly like this. You can call it that, but it is not exactly so the fact that I connect with the friends in order to be together with them in one group by this I give the Creator a greater opportunity to bestow upon us through the connection between us and that’s it. That’s our work to connect more and this is the reward that the Creator gives us accordingly.
S. We work and work and discover more and more that we are in a lie because we are not in a state of Lishma and then it suddenly says and the person is not qualified to it is not in Lishma when he is rewarded then he is in Lishma?
R. But he gradually discovers what is Lishma and what is Lo Lishma, this is how he shifts from one half to the other half.
S. Again so why is it called a reward, a work and the payment for the work?
R. Well being rewarded means that it’s not within man’s power to create or perform any correct movement it’s only by the upper Light, the Creator that comes closer to him only in such a way does he advance.
S. Also in this reward there is also a stage in which he is asking until it comes to the request right? The request right is already a reward?
R. The request is to correct the person, to change a person it’s not that the Creator needs to be requested. The Creator. to format himself in order to be already fitted to receive from the Creator spiritual forces.
S. Where exactly here is the reward? Is it to us for the right thing or is it that he receives it?
R. To be rewarded is in that he understands that in the connection with the friends he reaches a state where the Creator can give to him. This is the essence of being rewarded.
15. S. (28:55) You said that the Creator wants to give everything to us and he is suffering because we are not yet ready to receive it, so the question is how can a person come to a state in which he is truly ready to receive all that the Creator wants to give?
R. The Creator prepares him,it all comes from above all of the good things come from above and the bad things that are also revealed from above. We just need to be more sensitive to them and sensitive it’s through the connection with the friends. Then we learn from each other what exactly we are going through.
S. From the connection with the friends how can we feel what the Creator wants to give from the connection between us?
R. We simply feel what it is that the Creator wants to give us according to our work with the friends from their states and my state that I want to get closer to them I feel what the Creator wants why did He place us in such a states, why did he give us such forms of nearing to each other by that I learn his work which is called the work of the Creator, the work of the Lord.
16. S. (30:58) If the lie covers completely all of our senses how can we disconnect from it?
R. We cannot disconnect from the lie and come closer to the truth but rather The Creator does that. The forces, the control over our situation are with Him we can only ask and our request depends on how much we enter a connection between us, a different kind and manner of connection according to that the Creator can establish new states between us.
17. S. Are there some kinds of signs that a person is in a lie?
R. The person should feel this on his own, no one can help him.
8. S. (32:29) What causes a person to see or not see that a person is governing the world as the good that does good?
R. What causes a person as much as he cleanses himself from thoughts about himself he will be able to see things in a more objective manner.
19. S. (32:56) What’s the connection between faith and lies?
R. The force of faith is the force of bestowal. It is usually above all the calculations except for giving and the lies that’s the opposite.
20. S. (33:32) What’s the meaning of the verse, he has to come to a state of wholeness and see how the Creator behaves with the whole world with the purpose of doing good to his creations?
R. If we reach wholeness, then certainly we will attain the purpose of life because then all of the bad forces and the good forces join as one, the attainment of this true state that the Creator is good and does good in all the different states from the worst to the best one.
21. S. (34:25) What are true and false in spiritual work?
Truth is what works towards our connection and a lie is the opposite. This is actually the operation towards, in relation to the Sin of the Tree of Knowledge.
22. S. (35:00) We talked about our requests. It seems that each time my request comes from a different angle: once from the friend, once from the Creator, once from the whole world. The question is: in which degree do we need all these requests to concentrate together into one thing?
R. No, it’s not necessary.
S. Simply to work with the things as they are awakened?
R. Whichever way they revolve this is how we should work with them. The Creator knows how to sort them.
23. S. (35:35) Why is Lo Lishma called a lie?
R. Because this is not the quality of the Creator.
S. Because we sometimes learn that Lo Lishma is more important than Lishma? So how does that work out?
R. Well, this coincides, now you are going to take this other article and you want us to scrutinize it here.
S. I am not taking the whole article, we just went through something this week in Lo Lishma and now we are learning something that takes us to a completely different side. If we learn this way that Lo Lishma is the work with the friends in which we have to come close to Lishma and that’s already on the way to the truth, why is Lo Lishma now sounding like […]
R. Lo Lishma is not on the way to the truth, it is a state from which we need to rise to the truth, to Lishma.
S. What are the person’s first steps in Lo Lishma? What to do in order to come to the truth so it will be Lishma?
R. To understand what does it mean: Lishma. That this is devotion to the friends and devotion to the Creator in each and every state that the person is in, that he should try to come closer to that, to feel that state and this is how he will be, he will go forward.
S. When we are in Lishma does it mean that we do feel the Upper Force but we do not yet have the quality of the Good that does Good, can we say such a thing?
R. If we are in Lo Lishma we can’t feel the Creator fully, as you say.
S. What does it mean that a person does feel that control, that the Creator is controlling but not as the Good that does Good, what is that?
R. Well, that is a state, you can’t ask anything more about it, it is a state.
S. How does a person change that state to the Good that does Good so that he will feel that?
R. So he needs to change himself; everything that is revealed is revealed inside of our qualities.
24. S. (38:20) I look at the ten now and I see that there are people, human beings. Each one manages his life the way he manages it. He makes decisions and seemingly I don’t see the Creator behind all of these decisions. It seems like each one is independent, he is an independent entity that is managing himself in the ten and I also see that sometimes there are good states, sometimes there are bad states, meaning that I don’t see the Good who does Good. I don’t see that all the operations that happen in reality are good. So the initial point, is it meant to be the opposite. I only see independence in each friend in the ten. I see that the states are not only good but they are also bad, now from that point I need to begin. How by bestowing to the friends? Let’s say, I try to help them. I try to connect with them. How does that change the perception of reality into There’s None Else Besides Him, the Good is doing Good?
R. We change the perception of reality. We have two states, we have states where we change the reality on our own, meaning we change our actions and in a direct manner our quality is changed. And there are such states and it’s most of them, in which for the fact that we change the relations between us, then the Creator changes in each of us His qualities.
S. Should I focus on doing a mental exercise that now that it is not individual people, rather is one force here that is managing everyone? Let’s say this mental exercise and there’s another mental exercise, that everything that is happening, no matter what is happening it is good. It is also like an exercise because I am not there yet or there is trying to connect with the friends. These are all kinds of different exercises I am now trying to arrange. What is the connection between these exercises? How much should we do of each one of these exercises? How do they all come into a single picture?
R. I look at this according to the states, according to the opportunity: that’s how I choose them.
S. You choose what’s correct for every moment?
R. What is more fitting for me to engage in right now. What is more suitable but it’s not that I take one and then a second and then the third and I sort them. I do what I think can influence me now in the most beneficial way. And that’s what I engage in.
S. In these replacements can you recommend to us how should we be sensitive to it every moment or are there times, days where a person feels that now I need to focus on There’s None Else Besides Him?
R. That’s according to hours, not days or periods, it could be hours, it could be several times a day that you change your method.
S. We decide about it in the ten or is it individual, let’s say that we should all now think about this focus on that?
R. It’s not simple, this is not simple. I am certain that it is better if the group decides as one but it doesn’t always happen. And even though we decided together each has his own thoughts so there is this and there is that.
25. S. (43:10) To continue on that, there was a sentence you said earlier, that the more I try to come closer to the friends I begin to feel what it is that the Creator wants out of us. Is it true to first of all accept that anything that happens between the friends for the better or for the worse, we forget about each other, we remember each other, all kinds of conflicts. First of all that the Creator does all of that in order to call us even more, it is always correct. Now the exercise that we need to do is each time to bring the ten, back to the state of wholeness, to the state of connection, to the state of one?
R. Well we sometimes see this and sometimes not but it’s unknown.
S. So we need to choose this mental exercise or the method like you said to a friend according to the state that the Creator gives us. Should we try to be sensitive to that?
R. The Creator gives in each every state an opportunity for higher connection.
S. And if we don’t see that then first of all it’s our sensitivity that’s the problem. Okay, after we begin to see that, well first of all there is also work between the friends where maybe one sees it and then you wake the others?
R. That’s of course why the ten is a complete structure that can bring us back to the state of complete connection, for the time being as much as possible.
S. This means that the advancement to the next state, to the correct usage of the exercise that the Creator threw at us is to start reminding each other and awakening each other and these waves between us so that we awaken each other?
R. Yes, the Creator is always giving us a state from which we need to come to connect. It’s not important what state and we just need to see this that is before us.
S. So whatever is happening right helps me to connect, that’s the initial point in each and every state in the ten?
R. This helps you as from this state you are trying to come to connection, that’s it. This is a very simple matter. It doesn’t matter what state but if that state is already there in the group, it’s a good sign.
S. Sometimes it seems just like the opposite: the friends can see it’s good or the friends can see that it is bad?
R. That’s not important, that’s not important, if there is advancement towards connection that is good.
26. S. (46:44) What is the role of the friends who do not ask questions?
R. The role is to participate in the questions and answers.
S. What is the role of the wise disciple, a wise student in the society?
R. To sustain the society at the height of being a wise disciple.
27. S. (47:17) How can the most effective requests appear? How can it help us to reveal the truth asking the Creator to reveal the truth?
R. From the depth of the heart.
28. S. (47:40) Going back to the exercises that you talked about, you said that each time we need to connect with the friends no matter what I see in the friends. The prayer to the Creator, I’m already connected with the friends if I ask the Creator to do it?
R. That I do not know, if you’re in connection you’re in connection but if you’re not you’re not.
S. But let’s say now I see a friend and I have criticism towards him and I stop the criticism and I say it’s a lie and then I turn to the Creator so that he will change his attitude, this relation of criticism?
R. Yes.
S. Does this mean I’m already connected with the friend?
R. I don’t know if I’m connected but I turn to the Creator and I ask.
S. So when does this connection take place?
R. That I don’t know. You are asking me as if I am the landlord. To the extent in which your request will reach the Creator and receive a response and return to you and change reality, you and the friend, that I do not know but you need to act in this undoubtedly.
S. The moment I feel a different attitude towards the friend it means that I change the relation, the Creator answered my request?
R. Yes.
29. S. (49:05) The fact that in every state we need to see the Creator’s good and doing good, there’s also the state of Lishma. So what comes first, first we reach Lishma and we see the good as doing good and then we calibrate ourselves and try to see He is the good doing good and that helps us reach Lishma and bestowal?
R. We cannot see in our qualities that the Creator is the Good that does Good, we cannot. Rather we try to rise to the qualities of bestowal and to ask the Creator to help us connect in mutual bestowal and then we discover that He is the Good that does Good.
30. S. (50:12) To add to this long discussion, we see that we have states of concealment in the work, so I can imagine that you can be in a concealment of the light already and how can we come to the recognition of the concealment of the light?
R. To recognizing the awareness of the falsehood that you discover it, that you discover the truth, that you have a lie and that it’s concealed.
S. How do you discover that it’s concealed, that the lies are concealed? How do you recognize this?
R. We need a special force from above for that.
S. There are different concealments, what are the differences in the work if you have a concealment of the truth? You can have concealment of the lie, is there a difference in the work and the approach or is it the same form of work?
R. Don’t deepen anymore into this. It will be revealed with time and in its time it will be revealed, all the kinds of concealments will be revealed in their time.
31. S. (52:00) How can I acquire the awareness of the absolute truth so that I can rise above that state of lie?
R. The absolute awareness, that you will not be able to acquire because that is as a result of the state, how can you acquire awareness, above the state of falsehood you need to come to bestowal and in the light of bestowal you need to see the reality, that’s what needs to happen.
32. S. (53:20) Here in Bnei Baruch we all learn in order to reach Lishma we yearn for it, we help each other. Will we all reach Lishma and it’s only a matter of time? What else do we have to do in order to accelerate the process?
R. All of us and all of the people in the world need to eventually come to adhesion with the Creator, meaning to Lishma. What do we need for that? To exactly and precisely execute what we are learning, that’s it. To do what we learn.
S. What are we lacking, do we lack faith?
R. We are lacking of course we are lacking faith but we’re missing first of all connection between us to receive each and every one of the other’s forces and desires, discernments, to the states that we’re going through and then we will have more of an opportunity to connect.
33. S. (54:50) To clarify a point in the passage about the lie, one who learns in Lo Lishma it’s a lie so does that mean that anything that I think I understand studying Torah I don’t understand at all or is it dependent on the intention to bestow to the Creator what truth I can receive from the Torah?
R. It might be that you don’t understand that you have the wrong foundations, because you are in a falsehood.
34. S .(55:50) I think I heard you said that the force of faith is bestowal. Can you explain these forces because bestowal it’s of the Creator’s nature, the force of faith I have to acquire to go above my reason. Can you explain what this connection is?
R. You need in the connection with the friends and appealing to the Creator to receive from Him the force of bestowal such that he will raise you to the degree of Lishma and then everything will change. So first of all, it’s the connection between you and after that connection with the Creator, and the address to the Creator for Him to change you and correct you and then the Creator enters between you and in His force of bestowal you connect already in the correct way between you.
35. S. (57:07) Maybe you can help us understand correctly the revelation of the lie out of efforts to connect and the operations of applying the truth, is that the work in Lishma or Lo Lishma?
R. I don’t understand.
S. She’s asking if the revelation of the lie out of actions in connection and applying the truth is the work in Lishma or Lo Lishma?
R. The disclosure of the falsehood is also work in Lishma, yes.
Reading Excerpt # 2 (58:15) “Lishma is called the truth..” twice.
36. S. (01:01:55) When a person needs to see that the Creator is behaving with all created beings in a matter of Good and doing Good this means that as one body or with each one of them individually?
R. Individually.
S. So the person should be connected with each and everyone?
R. He’s connected anyway.
S. He needs to be connected and then he’s saying that He’s the Good that’s doing Good.
R. Well, relatively.
37. S. (01:02:22) Is it honest or easier to say that the Creator is continuing to the good when there are so many bad things that are happening to people, innocent people all around the world?
R. We don’t understand what’s happening and we need to accept that this is the force of the Good that does Good operating on the will to receive in order to bring it to its corrected, eternal and whole state, that is what’s happening. Why do we see this in such a crude, terrible, indirect manner that we do not know but when we hold on to both sides, both the will to receive and the will to bestow, and aim ourselves towards the intention of the purpose of creation which is the Good that does Good for everyone, then we might understand why the Creator does this.
38. S. (01:03:50) Why in general it’s the poor and the weak and the wretched that are hurt first?
R. The Creator prepares them in advance to be as such, to be ready for the harm, for the answer, for the repentance.
39. S. (01:04:23) What is in the quality of Lishma that allows us to see that the Creator is Good in doing Good?
R. Because you are in bestowal for every state and every direction and every level in every state, and let’s say, then you can justify the Creator.
S. Why justifying is the result of Lishma?
R. Because you are the will to receive and you have no other attitude to begin with towards the actions of the Creator, but rather to justify or not.
S. So why is it in Lo Lishma I’m not justifying and in Lishma I’m justifying?
R. In Lo Lishma you’re not justifying because you have goals, desires and opposite qualities.
40. S. (01:05:37) We simply summarize the matter of Lishma and say when a person reaches Lishma there’s no more concealment and we see that He is the Good that is doing Good?
R. When a person comes to Lishma it depends on what degree because in all those degrees we have a state of Lo Lishma and Lishma, so if a person reaches Lishma, then he justifies the Creator in everything.
S. And the Creator is revealed to him in his senses that He is the One that manages everything?
R. To that extent.
S. To the extent that he’s in it and he sees the truth that the Creator’s revealed to him?
R. Yes.
S. And he also sees that He’s the Good, doing Good?
R. Yes, otherwise he cannot reveal Him.
S. When he’s in Lo Lishma he has all these doubts and difficulties?
R. Correct.
41. S. (01:06:48) When a person discovers that the Creator is Good that’s doing Good to everyone he still sees that people don’t understand the Creator’s guidance or everyone is happy, I didn’t get that?
R. That’s something else. The Creator is the Good that does Good to the evil to the good, to all of creation, to the beginning and the end, in all of the states. We’re just talking to the created beings and how they receive the providence of the Creator and that’s why you can say that there’s a face to here and a face to there.
S. When a person sees that the Creator is the Good that’s doing Good but he sees that the created beings, people don’t understand creation, what can he do?
R. He can bring them closer to that so that they will understand what states that they are in, who they are engaged with, just like Baal HaSulam is doing this.
Reading Excerpt #3 (01:08:10) “When he sees that he is still far..” twice.
42. S. (01:10:38) How not to deceive themselves?
R. Only the group you cannot take from any place some real and true measurement of where you are besides the ten, only the ten which operates in a manner in which the Baal Hasulam and Rabash stabilize us to see the ten in a manner that is a complete force.
S. And with this complete force what should become clear so it will not be a deceit? What is the truth that should become clear from this complete force of the ten?
R. It needs to be clarified, the extent in which they’re gradually more and more “as one man in one heart,” that there is a greater and greater connection, mutual connection between them and then by this they feel how this force, the special force that is unique being revealed in them, to the extent in which it shows them this quality that the Creator is being revealed in them; that they and the Creator are being revealed in the same quality. That there’s a Kli and the light that’s filling the Kli and that is actually their form, the right form for the time being.
43. S. (01:12:52) What is the addition he says after he already feels that he is far away from performing all these actions for the Creator then he needs the scrutiny of the truth?
R. He needs to examine himself probably.
S. But he checked and he sees that he’s far away from performing all these actions for the Creator?
R. Read it again.
Reading Excerpt #3 again. (01:13:30)
44. R. (01:13:40) Meaning he’s not yet in the sake of the Creator.
Reading continues. (01:13:45)
45. S. (01:14:44) What is the addition of the scrutiny of the truth when a person discovers that he is far away from being so that all of his actions are for the sake of the Creator. What does that mean that he also needs the scrutiny of the truth?
R. It’s considered that he still has what to do because there’s a certain distance between him and the state of completely for the sake of the heavens.
S. And that scrutiny, that truth, the scrutiny that is lacking the truth on what does it depend?
R. There’s the Creator where he shows him to go to truth and he gives him the feeling and the opportunity to ask for the strength for that and make another step forward.
S. How not to make that scrutiny by myself intellectually but really make it a scrutiny of the Creator who is adding insight to me?
R. It is only with the help of the ten as you understand.
S. Why specifically?
R. You’re talking about the Creator, getting closer to the Creator, the attitude to the Creator, it can only be done from the ten.
S. And work in the ten. What does it shine for me that’s related to the truth?
R. As much as I didn’t come out of myself and didn’t connect to the friends, that it matches how distant I am from the Creator.
46. S. (01:16:44) Is there a connection and if so what is it between a person lying to himself or lying to his environment such as the ten or outside of himself, are they connected?
R. There’s a connection but these are things that are not precise, they cannot be precise yet for us, the matter is that towards himself and towards the Creator, there’s many discernments here that we need to open.
S. Should we accustom ourselves to be honest outside so that we’re honest inside as well?
R. Yes and no, not necessarily.
47. S. (01:17:40) Can you explain the sentence, in truth they don’t have the true perception either because of their nature or because they do not have a good teacher to show them how not to deceive themselves. So is the teacher the Creator or the teacher the Rav? What is the teacher?
R. Read it again.
Reading again (01:18:13) “However, the truth is..”
S. Two questions: what does it mean by their own nature and how can a person reach Lishma with his own nature? That’s question number one.
R. Of course from the side of his nature he is arriving and he has a point in the heart that doesn’t give him rest in his awakening and pushes him constantly forward.
S. How does he not deceive himself?
R. That same point in the heart, he doesn’t allow him to remain calm so that he doesn’t cheat himself or deceive himself.
S. But every person who comes to the path has a point in the heart otherwise he wouldn’t come?
R. No, it depends, it depends on which point in the heart, it’s not equal one to the other.
S. Okay and then he says or they did not have a good teacher to show them how not to deceive themselves?
R. Also that there are many people who know how to reach Lishma in the short way, jumping but who knows how true it is.
S. The good teacher is the one who says work in the group and there you will discover everything?
R. Yes but it’s not enough, this is not a sign that this is a correct teacher, a correct teacher is one who has a connection with the Creator and he can be the conduit, the transition from the Creator to the students.
S. Then he constantly gives them more precisions?
R. In many ways, like an instructor to children and what do the children know, especially here where it’s a spiritual matter and no one knows.
48. S. (01:20:55) A person should first of all test in the ten what he’s receiving from the friends and from the society it’s all for his own sake before that he cannot judge anything with respect to reality, he still doesn’t have contact with anything outside of him. So should he first feel within him what is receiving and before that he cannot say about any friend that the Creator is doing good to him so he has to feel on himself first?
R. Yes.
S. Is this how he attains?
R. Yes.
49. S. (01:21:47) During the day I can check my relation to the friends, to the ten. I love them, I don’t love them, I deceive them or not, where does for the sake of the Creator enter into the picture?
R. Why do you do it for?
S. I don’t know?
R. So why do you do that for?
S. I engage in love with friends?
R. What for?
S. Love of friends and from love of friends to love of the Creator.
R. Oh, so you have a purpose or a goal to reach love of the Creator.
S. Yes but the goal is blurry; it’s far.
R. I don’t think this is so much because you’re saying you’re doing it everyday, love of friends.
S. Because we learn that this is the realization.
R. Okay, so you realize on a daily basis the connection with the friends and the more tighter way to reach, to arrive at the closeness to the Creator.
S. Right and this realization is really real but still what is for the sake of the Creator coming to this reality?
R. That you want to come closer to the Creator.
S. Should this come in every act towards the friend?
R. Otherwise there is no purpose to the action.
S. It’s very clear-cut with respect to the friends, I deceive them or I don’t, I care enough or I don’t care enough. How do I add into it the relation towards the Creator?
R. You need to depict a group as a place in which the Creator dwells.
50. S. (01:24:02) An order not to deceive himself I once read, Ramchal has a book called Mesilat Yesharim and he writes there about virtues, how important is it and how much can it work in our help to read about it?
R. It’s a different approach, it’s correct and true and Ramchal was very big according to the words of Rabash, he was very big, and I don’t know what to tell you; but it’s a little different the language the approach. It’s true, everything is true but it’s clothed in a different way.
S. And if we find a line in which we can translate it into our language can this help us in our work?
R. No no, completely not. We have enough from Baal HaSulam and Rabash; until we complete them and realize them you will not need anything else.
51. S. (01:25:37) We said that there are two states, and one that I know that there is truth and that I am in a lie, and the others that I feel that there is truth, so can it be that the goal has to constantly before me to feel that there is truth, is this a worthy enough, correct enough goal to work on it all the time?
R. Yes.
S. Is this the most effective state in Lo Lishma, not for her sake, that I feel that there is truth and I am falsehood?
R. Yes.
