Part 2:
Baal HaSulam. Introduction to The Book of Zohar. #63
Reading Item #63 (00:16 – 03:23)
1. S. (03:35) What does it mean ‘to complete’?
R. It means that we have to correct it and resurrect it corrected; when it broke in the sin of Adam HaRishon, it received the light in order to receive. We have to resurrect it from the dust, from in order to receive, and to organize it so it will be in order to bestow, that’s all.
S. And how do we build this common Malchut so that it becomes for the sake of bestowal?
R. That’s our whole work, ‘the six thousand years that we have to go through corrections,’ that’s how it’s called, ‘the six thousand years’. That is what we feel ourselves when we are in a certain state, we have to discover we’re in this world, so to speak, the lowest place, the furthest from bestowal and we have to reconnect to re-establish Malchut from the dust. And so to advance to the state of correction.
2. S. (05:19) We learn in the previous letter items that we are supposed to attain in this world all of NRNHY not just NRN, and here he writes that there’s no difference between the first generation, the later generation, so why do we not attain the whole NRNHY?
R. There is no difference, we can say there’s no difference but in the attainments of the vessels, their screens, the way they draw the light, the correction of the vessels, there is certainly a difference between one generation and another
S. So what is the addition of the last generation, that they have the Haya, Yechida in the end?
R. That in them we can extend more lights, we have more screens, more vessels, and we can extend more light from Vav, by this light to correct the vessel so we will have higher screens, it’s always ten Sefirot but where are these ten Sefirot, and to elevate them more and more.
S. So it comes that the last generation will be higher than the first generation?
R. According to attainments, yes, according to the vessels, there’s the inverse value between the lights and the vessels.
3. S. (06:57) We learn that the same souls are coming from generation to generation, what does it mean that our souls are the worst?
R. They have an opportunity, possibility, to attain higher lights, to correct them in a closer fashion to the light and they seemingly start from the opposite states, the worst.
S. What is it called that they have an opportunity that he’s talking about the will to receive?
R. A will to receive that is lacking a screen.
S. So why are they called, ‘the worst souls’?
R. What is a soul?
S. I thought ‘soul’ was a part of the one above.
R. It is some light you extend from above, that is correct, but you extended according to the will to receive you have, the restriction and the screen, and then you’re willing to receive that light in order to bestow when it enters a vessel, connects to the vessel, you call it Neshama, the vessel of Neshama and the light of Neshama.
S. When they say “souls are the essence of the worst souls in our generation”, the meaning is the distance between the vessels and what they are capable of, this is the biggest gap?
R. Yes.
4. S. (08:39) The correction of the screen, we do by the light of Hassadim?
R. The correction of the screen is always by the light of Hochma, correction.
S. And the invitation of the correction is through the light of Hassadim?
R. Yes.
S. We see the ten as the whole?
R. Yes.
5. S. (09:08) A brief explanation of what is written in The Zohar, he says “accordingly in our generation even though our soul is the worst in this generation and couldn’t be in holiness until today”, so how is it how is it turned around, how did it flip to be in our generation?
R. All corrections start from the light and go to the heavy, it’s like when you try to teach a child, so certainly throughout all the generations the corrections are more and more difficult. But also it comes upon the previous work from one generation to another, so it seems that it is adapted, the kind of worse souls that appear and every generation.
S. So I want to complete with all that, there is no equivalence between?
R. Yes, of course
S. How does it happen?
R. Because the correction goes from the light to the heavy, meaning the souls that are now being revealed towards correction are heavier, they’re more flawed. That is why our work should become more and more difficult, on the one hand; on the other hand, we’re carrying with us from the previous incarnations all those vessels, all those actions. That is why we can already overcome what we have today and to keep on going.
S. But how do we overcome the challenges, how do we, let’s say as Bnei Baruch, how is it possible to receive these forces to overcome all of this? I’m asking about this Congress in the Arava, can it help in a serious way?
R. The Congress itself I don’t know how that helps, but the people who take part in the Congress if they want to connect, we have to prepare the conditions for them so that they will get these conditions in the best way for connection between them. Maybe we should do this way: take all these I don’t know two thousand, how many others, how many will come to the desert? Let’s say one thousand men come to the desert, so maybe we should put these one thousand men to throw them from a chopper to some place so that they will take care of themselves, somewhere they will feel that only by the connection between them they can be safe from death. And then we will see how much it helps them this is called, ‘to bring them the best conditions for correction].
S. These challenges, what are these challenges, what are the types of challenges and obstacles we get all the time? When you’re suddenly sick and you disappear and we’re going crazy with ourselves, we just go crazy with ourselves, crazy wild. Why do you have such a challenges and seeing all this around?
R. This is all probably in order to bring us to have to have a connection, that only through connection we can reach correction.
S. What can help us give us strength to overcome?
R. Connection can help, the connection is the correction itself.
S. Like you say, it can help the connection between us because it’s a large number.
R. Yes.
S. That’s correct that the quantity of people helps us connect?
R. Yes.
6. S. (13:58) Can you please explain the difference between the concept Aviut, heaviness of the souls? For example, the ten of Rabbi Shimon, they already discovered the biggest Aviut and suddenly they are the lightest souls, how does it work?
R. No, even though they were not the ten of Rabbi Shimon still the souls that used to be revealed, they were lighter tens easier to correct compared to today. Look at our generation, what does it want? Look at all the men in this generation, if you set women aside, you don’t take them for the account, what do the men want, do you understand? It wasn’t like this, that’s it.
7. S. (15:21) You reply to a friend that the correction of the screen is according to the light of Hochma.
R. The correction of the screen is only by the light of Hochma, what it gives a person, the screen, but the screen gives a person is the ability to use the light of Hassadim.
S. It’s not said that the correct of the creation is Hassadim, so how is it connect with the answer that you gave that they correct the Masach?
R. The correction is by the upper light.
8. S. (16:18) What is the vessel of the soul, can we please hear it again?
R. There is no other vessel besides the vessel of the soul, that is the will to receive that appears without correction. We have to restrict it, put the screen over it, Zivug de Hakaa, coupling while striking, to start receiving light from Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama, when you receive these three lights the vessel is considered to be corrected because it no longer wants in order to receive, it is entirely in order to bestow. And there are two more degrees, Haya and Yechida, which are to receive the light of Hochma in order to bestow. These are the five corrections.
S. This can be only if we connect in the ten because I can do inside myself these corrections
R. Yes, of course.
9. S. (17:48) According with the drawing, the pulling of the lights, attracting of the lights, if we are the NHN, the last, worst souls, then according to the value of opposite lights and vessels, these lights they come to HBD, do I understand correctly?
R. Where does it come to HBD?
S. That’s a question, too, where does it exist?
R. It’s in us, it’s in us, we are drawing the light from above: Nefesh, Ruach, Haya, Yechida.
S. The lowest souls attain all of the lights?
R. Of course.
S. That we are attracting the highest lights but they don’t clothe in us, they clothe in the other degrees?
R. Yes, and then they go down to us, it depends on what degree they are.
S. So when we are attracting, when we are drawing the lowest lights then they come to the first degree, it will only be the light of Nefesh?
R. Right.
S. And the light of Haya will enter the system where the first light of Haya will enter the system, we will not feel it?
R. Of course not, we will clothe in the upper world.
S. So, finally, the effort that we are doing now, are we attracting such high light that’s called Haya which is why our effort is so great?
R. No, no we’re not working with the light of Haya.
S. And in order for it to enter the general system and all the lights to go deeper inside, do we attract lights that are supposed to come through our efforts?
R. Why are you saying that?
S. When we learn the opposite value of lights and vessels, then the lower attracts the higher, and the lowest light enters but he attracts the high light.
R. So it goes into the system but what comes to me, what I feel is only the light of Nefesh.
10. S. (20:36) There are different lights, is it who will determine which light to draw upon through my needs each time?
R. No, we don’t have any possibility to do that now, later we will see in higher degrees.
11. S. (21:16) Here the text says that “highest souls weren’t able to receive a full measure of light”, what does it relate to and are they the same souls that continue to incarnate in order to correct?
R. I didn’t understand.
S. She’s asking if they’re talking about the same souls that are incarnating in order to correct?
R. It is always this way, in us also, our souls went through corrections, they haven’t finished them, that’s why they come back and they are being corrected more and more.
12. S. (22:27) What is the uniqueness of our generation?
R. That we are the last vessels therefore we can attract the biggest light from Ein Sof and we really can end all of corrections and reach the final Correction.
13. S. (23:07) I hear you say that we are heavier souls than the previous generation. Is this the reason that it takes us some time to connect?
R. In short, we are revealing in us the worst souls that we have not found revealed until now as Baal HaSulam says in The Introduction to the Book of Zohar, and that’s why we need to correct them. Our work is as if more difficult but together with that we have the highest light from above and with than the previous generations
S. Is this the reason it takes us so many efforts and times to connect in order to bestow?
R. I don’t think that our work is any more difficult than in the previous generations because along with that, we have more light, we are more developed, there are different conditions, even generation.
14. S. (24:44) What is the connection between the correction of the souls and the growing population?
R. Apparently because of the hard work it’s being divided into more souls.
Reading #64 (25:46 – 27:43) “Indeed, even our sages asked this question, in Masechet Berachot, p 20: “Rav Papa said to Abayei: ‘How were the first differences…”
15. R. (27:46) This is how it was written originally, what does Baal HaSulam say?
Reader cont. (27:52 – 28:48) “Thus, although the first generations…”
16. R. (28:52) It is not according to our logic but precisely with the vessels reveal the highest light, study and work with them. And not as we think that we have to be pure and pretty, let’s say like one of the students, rather the worse you are the bigger the opportunity you have to arrive from the deepest hole to the highest mountain. But he also shouldn’t feel bad because according to the connection with us, the evil ones, he can also arrive to the top, this is how it works.
Reading #65 (29:59 – 31:22) “Hence, we could ask, Why, then, is it forbidden to disagree with the first in the revealed Torah…”
17. S. (31:25) There is a question: what’s your connection with the previous generations, we the ones that live now? Can we have some connection with the first generations?
R. Of course, so what is the problem?
S. No, it’s just that, here it is as if there’s a difference, according to this article, that the previous generations were this way and the other generations are different, so still there’s some kind of, we are one whole but it’s a process?
R. But we need to connect and then we’ll be all together something whole and in the meantime we are not whole rather we are scatter, so it’s impossible to say on us that we are one body, we are not not AdamHaRishon, we are many, many, many people, billions, and when we connect together and then we become one man.
S. We need to connect with the previous generations and also with the future generations?
R. No, no, no, no, we have to connect in the ten, that’s enough, and then we will see what else to do if there’s anything else to do this is all.
18. S. (33:15) With your permission, our ten registered fully to the Congress in the desert, we are going to draw lights of Haya and Yechida to pass it on to the thousands of people who will take part and receive the light of Nefesh, am I correct, that is according to the answer to the friend?
R. Apparently this is how you signed, yes or no?
S. We want to draw the lights for all the thousands of people that will take part, us getting the minimum is according to what Baal HaSulam writes, am I correct?
R. We need to arrive at connection through the demand in the desert or the woman here in the building, it doesn’t matter where you sit, the important thing is that we want to connect in our heart, in our hearts. That our hearts will be so connected between them that in the connection we will be able to present this connection to the Creator, for Him to clothe in it as a light in the vessel, this is what we want to be.
19. S. (35:00) It’s important to say that the connection is not only in these thousand people who are here in Israel, in the desert or in the building but Arava is a concept that is all around the world and such a congress is taking part in dozens of places all over the world.
R. As it is written walk after me in the desert, this is how it needs to be. I hope that we go through the desert in the right way and come out in good connection, strong, unified, connected until the Creator can clothe and reveal on us.
S. The real question is how this one heart that we have to come to in this Congress can happen on a global scale so we can really feel not only the bodies that are by my side but rather the whole Congress that is taking place in the same way, in Moscow and Alaska?
R. We need to make sure that they feel that they are with us, all of us together and it doesn’t matter where anyone is. Whoever is here in the desert is more invested maybe than someone who is in somewhere in America but this is how we complete one another.
S. Maybe it’s the opposite, maybe I just go on the ride and it takes me 2 hours to reach the Congress but if someone is in America he’s been organizing for a month and a half, he’s been working on this.
R. Correct. That’s why each according to his investment, according to his ability and investment.
S. That is something we’ve been trying to scrutinize. What does it mean that even aiming us to reach the one heart, the one common vessel how out of our individual tens where we work every day and also preparing for the Congress can we reach this concept of the common vessel?
R. We don’t feel that there is connection between the friends, more inner a little bit more inner?
S. The inner connection is felt at least for me in the tens and the connection with other tens is more surrounding, more external.
R. Correct, correct, this is how it needs to be.
S. So what does it mean that in this Congress we need to reach one heart?
R. But one heart includes all 125 degrees from above downwards, right to the left and so on. It’s not that we all connect into one drop, this is not our business. It is the matter of the last Zivug and the relation of the light of Yechida.
S. So now in our work in preparation in the tens in the world Kli what should we put attention to?
R. That we want to be connected between us in the tens.
S. And in the general vessel?
R. The general Kli, when we come to that Congress we will try to already be in a private ten and work to connect between the private tens.
S. Do we need to somehow take that into account?
R. Yes, take into account only.
S. What?
R. That we prepare ourselves to connect also out of the personal tens to one ten.
S. What does it mean to take it into account?
R. That we prepare ourselves in practice.
S. What does that mean? When we work every day in our personal ten so am I connecting in my personal ten? We’re now preparing for the Congress so somewhere in the back of my mind what, am I thinking about something?
R. Not only in the back of your mind but we are doing all our preparations towards the next degree.
S. Which is our general correct connection.
R. Yes.
S. So what are the preparations?
R. We’re talking about it, we’re trying to connect like now connecting during the lesson between us, this is all preparation.
S. Now we’re connecting to a common vessel?
R. Yes. And we think about it. That soon we will be in a stronger connection with thousands of our men. We’ll connect a hundred tens let’s say, it’s more than a hundred tens and then women will connect and in this way we will arrive at it.
S. What happens to your personal ten in this general connection?
R. Personal ten, the private ten to the general connection? According to participation.
S. The general connection is out of the personal ten?
R. A general connection includes in itself the private personal tens.
S. When a friend works in his own ten how does he depict this general connection?
R. We can’t depict it, describe it yet. However you can, I don’t want to confuse you.
20. S. (42:38) When I’m driving to the desert with my friends and I’m by their side both in the lessons and at night in the meals I feel close to them. Is this considered that I’m really close to them, is this the proximity we’re looking for, the spiritual proximity?
R. Of course it’s not an inner closeness in the heart and desires but because of such actions we are demanding from the Creator to really connect us, our different desires into one desire.
S. So what is the real thing we are demanding, what is innner spiritual proximity?
R. This is according to the upper light, that the very same parts that broke and grew distant from one another they will reconnect. And even if we don’t know how exactly or with what exactly this is the upper light connecting us, glueing us together and filling us.
S. In the Congress even if I’ll feel close to people still many people will be there, not everyone I can interact with, I can’t come close to everyone in a way that leads me to.. So what is this state where you feel everyone, you feel the whole Kli, that you’re close to everyone, that we’re one ten?
R. There is no such description that you will be close to everyone and you will connect to everyone as if you are in one body, there is no such thing. It’s a spiritual matter, the upper light bestows and God willing in our days we will receive this feeling that we are in one vessel but there is no one man and no one women and such and such. Rather we are all in one desire as parts of this desire, different parts but one desire.
S. So when we’re performing actions, when we’re in the Congress what should we ask for in order to reach this state of the one desire?
R. Only pray.
S. What to pray about exactly?
R. One desire, one man in one heart and for this you pray.
21. S. (46:04) How can we hold the connection with the friends who can’t participate physically in the congress?
R. I don’t think we need to keep in touch with them if part of the group remains at home and part of the group goes to the desert for the Congress. I don’t think we need to constantly worry about how we connect to them and speak with them. We are all watching the same actions that are being done in the desert and according to these actions we connect, all of us to the whole world Kli.
22. S. (47:05) I was wondering because many friends have asked where will you be, will you be in the physical desert? And I said no, I’m in the spiritual Arava, I’m in the place but I will not be in the physical Arava.
R. I really hope so. I really hope so although until then I have to do a few tests in the hospital but I hope yes, I plan to be there.
S. That will be really great. Many friends ask me are you in the physical Arava and I said no I’ll be in Holland but I will be in the spiritual place together. How can we strengthen this because it looks like the friends have a lot of value about the physical location, being there but we value the spiritual place with the friends. So what can we do as a world Kli?
R. I cannot tell you. I was already many many times in Arava, in the desert, in Bereshit, in all sorts of places and of course whoever is there has a different feeling than whoever is in his apartment in his chair. This is the feeling of Gadlut, of exile, that we need to feel what it means to be outside of the upper light. There’s a lot of things here, I see that today we’re not going to finish this.
23. S. (49:54) You have a clear distinction between the thousand friends that come physically and the rest of the friend that watch the Congress. They’re part of the Congress but not in the desert.
R. I don’t want to make any division, rather the opposite. This is all your business, you need to know how to organize, how to build. That all of the ones that are in these different places for them to feel that they are in the main central point of our Congress.
S. If I’m sitting in Holland or in Moscow, what does it mean to feel the desert?
R. It doesn’t means that you are feeling the desert in your body instead in your soul. You feel that you are in the desert in an empty place that doesn’t have the revelation of the Creator, that you’re not connected with people to one vessel. This is all called that you are in the desert, I don’t need I need to explain it to you.
S. The question is what’s the addition to those who are physically in the desert?
R. This all depends on how much a person can depict to himself where he is.
S. What is the connection between the feeling of exile and the feeling of the desert?
R. The feeling of exile and the feeling of the desert? You could say it’s the same thing without confusion.
24. S. (51:49) In the past week I think all of us have been experiencing a common feeling of tension and anxiousness, a common prayer that connects us, all of Bnei Baruch. It’s clear it was a whole package of study from above. I’m asking myself is it possible to reach and hold such an inner common prayer between all of us, this internal anxiety without an external threatening state?
R. If we were connecting then I wouldn’t be in a state where I’m taken away from you. To the Kabbalist himself it’s not as important, he is at the same work both above and below. For the students it’s important because until he holds them physically even they don’t fall, if he let’s them go, they fall. This is home alone.
