Zohar for All. “Introduction of The Book of Zohar”. Otiot de Rav Hamnuna Saba [The Letters of Rav Hamnuna Saba]. #27. The Letter Ayin
1. Rav’s Introduction: (00:31) Yes, we will continue the article of the letters the Otiot. The are very important articles because it explains to us the qualities by which we exist, by which the Creator is managing us, developing us and we need to resemble those qualities of the letters to see in what are they good and in what are they bad, straight or crooked, as we say, for example the letter Peh and lets see now the letter Ayin. Let’s see if it’s good or not. Along the way we need to understand a bit more why the Creator created the world with such forces that when we combine them, they give us the shape of the letters. The letters that exist in and of itself but rather it is a combination of forces that draw for us the advantages or disadvantages of the black light over the white light and that’s how the Creator is managing his world.
Reading item 27.(02:15) “And He also said to the letter Ayin..”
2. R. (05:45) Meaning there is the matter of additions, qualities from one letter to the next. Connections between the letters and that’s how they exist. Each and every letter cannot be the bestower at the great one the one who decides but only when it is part of all of the other letters.
Reading Item 28. (06:25) “The letter Samech entered..”
3. S. (16:59) It is written how the man rises here. First he rises to ZON and then from ZON to AVI and then from AVI it becomes Yeshsut. What depends on the lower one here? All the phases of raising MAN or maybe the first degree that is closest to us ?
R. In the lower ones what depends on them is to reveal his desire, to disclose his deficiency thats up to the lower ones, That’s it. Then comes the demand for the upper one, then the upper one o does it work and it is helping the lower one to try and rise to correct itself to hold onto the other one and in this way to develop and exist.
S. All the degrees describe there are not only acts of the low one’s? Does the upper one’s does for them?
R. The lower one begins it and awakens the upper one. The upper one cannot do anything unless the lower one asks for it. You can see it in us as well.
S. Every smallest movement is a result of the request of the lower one?
R.Yes.
4. S. (18:54) What does it mean that the light of Samech supports the fallen and how do we use it ?
R. How to use this support for that we need to be connected with the upper one and the upper one will provide this support especially to use this support we need to be connected between us and with the other one and then the other one will provide this support especially Samech. The Creator supports all the fallen ones because during the fall we have no one to hold onto nothing to lean on but only on the letter Samech This quality it is a complete whole letter and it can light it can be as complete light to us even though we have no power left, no understanding of what to do and how during the fall. Then nevertheless we can find and in this quality called Samech such combinations of forces that can raise us and support us and reinforce and connect us to the other one.
5. S. (20:21) Can you explain what the meaning of the expression departed from Samach is?
R. They talk about the connection, the quick connection between the deficiency that a person develops and the reaction of the Creator to it.
6. S. (20:54) Why are the letters trying to convince the Creator that creation won’t happen through them?
R. Because each and every letter is a compilation of forces that want to be part of the correction and bring about the power of correction, especially so each of them let’s say it is a collection of forces because she wants to show that she has the forces and correct the world and bring it to the end of correction. and it is standing before the Creator the light of Ein Sof the whole light then it is revealed that it is not strong enough. There are some flaws to her. That’s why she has to work not alone but in participation with other letters so she has to go back the line of letters and work together with them.
S. We read that when the lower ones corrupt their works again, what corruption are we talking about?
R..The fall into the will to receive.
7. S. (22:40) What is the gripping of the Klipot (the shells). What is the fear of the light coming their way? Why should we avoid it?
R. Because we are talking about something after the shattering. Black letters on top of the white, each one contains a combination of good and evil between light and darkness. The desire to receive, the desire to bestow. There is certainly a grip in each one of them. To decipher is which quality we need to begin to correct the will to receive in order to receive and to come out higher in order to receive to in order to bestow.
S. How is it expressed here that the Creator keeps telling them that they are unfit because of some grip of the Klipot through them?
R.Because you can’t use them in order to begin the correction later during the correction throughout the correction we will need all of those letters. Of course each one will have its part as we will see in the book of theTorah. We see this whole line, a string of letters and number of letters. How we write them. There are certain rules on how to write them and in this way we carry out the correction.
It says we have to carry out the black light against the white light. Meaning we don’t run away from the will to receive that is black but we write on the backdrop of the white light and then we write each and every letter specifically we express the black light and we write, eating every letter when specifically we express the backlight, the special connection that exists between darkness and light and then eventually the darkness will shine as light. That’s what we need to do. Then there will be room for the created beings to exist in the white light although they are opposite from it.
8. S. (25:45) In the cascading of the world we learn that there is something called Tanta after the lights depart. There are tags and letters that remain. Are these letters that we learn about now?
R. Yes, of course.
S. Because you said yesterday that it only happens in the breaking and in Tanta it only happens in the beginning?
R. Tanta exists only from the beginning, expansion of the lights with the vessels, but the expansion of the lights in the vessels is only after the shattering of the vessels.
S. Is there a difference between the letters before the breaking and after the break?
R. Yes, before the shattering we don’t discover the letters in themselves because there are no disconnections between good and bad and light and darkness. We can’t detect the evil inclination and the good inclination we have to first bring them out separate them and in this way we come to corrections. We’ll talk about it. Here is not the place for it,
9. S. (27:43) Can I ask a question between the connection of the Sefirot and the letters?
R. No no. We didn’t learn about it so we didn’t ask about it. Try to ask about what we are learning
10. S. (27:49) Is it realistic for the broken vessels to maintain the state of Katnut as a permanent state thanks to the illumination of the letter Samech?
R. The illumination of the letter Samech, we can’t hold on to Gadlut.
S. I am asking about the Katnut?
R. We will learn about it, it is all in front of us.
S. Is it possible for broken vessels to stay in a state of Katnut as a permanent state?
R. Shattered is not Katnut. Katnut is already correction.
S. We’ll always fall from Katnut and return to it or can we maintain Katnut?
R. We see you are asking about things that belong to the correction. We haven’t even finished the preparation for the letters.
11. S. (28:50) I would like to understand about the letter Samech. We learn that only a friend can raise the friend’s spirit and lift him from falling from a descent. Is there anything common between joy and supporting?
R. We don’t scrutinize these things, we don’t get into these things as a scrutiny of the text right now.
12. S. (29:34) How do we come from the state of the ten into the shape of the letters? How does that happen?
R. A letter is a sign, a symbol and each and every letter that gives us a state, an indication for where the vessel is, so we need to go through all those letters just as we are doing, from state to state, from state to state. In this way we will understand what is happening with the process that the vessels are undergoing.
13. S. (30:32) Is there anything for us to learn from the desire that the letters want the world to be created with them?
R. The letters wish to use their qualities for correction; to be as close as possible to the Creator. This is how they turn to the Creator and they ask Him; to take them and make use of them. These are forces so we speak about the nature of the force that they are truly such letters and the letters they work on people. Know these are qualities that exist in nature and we can receive these qualities from the Creator and realize them.
14. S. (31:38) All the letters have a shape. How it is written perpendicularly, is that the light of Hochma and horizontally the light of Hassadim and it talks about the combination of the two lights Hochma and Hassadim, is this correct?
R. Yes, only in this.
15. S. (32:35) Can we look at this process, meaning is it correct that a spiritual action is like a circle, where you have for example a beginning, a middle and an end and between many details and we sort of try to realize this circle in the ideal way?
R. The entire spiritual circle or the process, the circle implies repetition, so it is best to say process. The entire spiritual process is described in the Torah from the first letter Bet, to the last letter Lamed and we, we have to read the entire Torah and play inside of us act, pass on the entire book through us and in such a way a person will be completely corrected.
S. How can we, how does it turn out that the letters, there are 22 letters in the texts of the Torah.
R. So what that the text is vast. It doesn’t happen at once, not by one action, rather it is the sum total of all the different actions of all the different connections between them and returning to them.
S. That’s our way of trial and error?
R. Yes.
16. S. (34:39) Is it correct that each letter feels that it has something special about it? That it wants the Creator to use it but at the same time it feels that it needs to sort of be the main one and when the Creator tells it, it can’t and when it leaves it connects to this system; it becomes willing to serve it?
R. Correct, correct.
17. S. (35:30) It is a very moving text. Each letter thinks of itself that it is very important but the wholeness comes from the unity of the letters. Can we liken it to our process, where we like the letters should see the deficiencies in us and correct them between the connection between us and by that bring about wholeness?
R. Yes, we will continue to read and we will see this is exactly how it is.
18. S. (36:25) In our generation, the last generation, are there letters that operate more than others and how do we feel their operation in the ten?
R. Of course there are letters that are more active, there are those that are less active and there are those that are tied to the period of the last generation we are in. The letters of the Meshiach and we will learn this and this is what it is talking about.
19. S. (37:18) Is the suitability of letters somehow determined by the Reshimot; the emergence of the Reshimot?
R. Yes, of course. The need for the emergence of the letters for the corrections determines what lights, meaning what forces, either isolated ones or in combination, will now operate on the general will to receive that the Creator created to the point of bringing it to its complete final correction: all of it.
20. S. (38:16) The letters were made for the sake of the connection between the upper one and the created being?
R. Yes.
S. Is there a difference between voicing the letters inside of us or externally?
R. There are big differences. We will learn it.
21. S. (38:45) When we correct the letters, if we can say it this way, they unite into one whole and what kind of light are we getting?
R. Go over the book of Torah gradually and it is written about it that each one must write the book of Torah out for himself and it is also written that each one must engrave the book of Torah in his heart. In other words, we must kind of mix all of our desires like you shuffle cards and position them in such an order by which all the letters are written in the Torah and each and likewise for everyone.
S. The text should be with a minimal adaptation to the text.
R. Everything is connected and it’s a shame you never listen to me.
S. We don’t correct all the letters?
R. I don’t know. I answered what I answered and that’s the end of it.
22. S. (40:27) What does it mean that the letters seemingly have the freedom of choice; they are angels?
R. This is how it’s told. It is kind of a story, like an allegory. That the letters come and go but that is not what it means. We will continue reading and you will listen and understand. The letters are forces in a person which he can awaken, work with, according to a clear and organized plan and then it is as if he is writing with them.
23. S. (41:16) These forces that we receive from the Creator that are called letters: are they thought to be turned into words? Are they expressed in our yearning in the prayer?
R. Yes, of course.
S. In this case, the language that is created between the lower one and the upper one in order to experience adhesion in all the previous states is that what it is?
R. Yes.
24. S. (42:00) To write the Torah on our hearts: does it mean to collect all the qualities of the Torah inside of us or in the ten?
R. Yes, of course you have to gather all of the qualities of the Torah within us meaning, we have to correct all our desires according to what is written in the Torah. Every person has to come to this.
25. S. (42:50) If a person supports his friends who are falling, does he receive the revelation of the GAR of Bina, the Samech?
R. No, no, no. He receives what the general kli attains, the group with their help.
26. S. (43:29) When we talk about the letters, is music also an extension of the letters?
R. That too, but it is a different language. You need to learn it separately.
27. S. (43:45) When we work in Arvut do we by that develop the power of the letter Samech?
R. Yes.
S. The more we exert the more this force will help us rise each time we fall, the force of Samech, the support?
R. Yes, yes.
28. S. (44:42) Can we view letters as connections between qualities and the networks of letters?
R. Yes.
29. S. (45:20) What does it mean that the Klipot does not have a grip on the Hassadim and why do they have a grip on the other lights?
R. There’s no rest of lights, there’s the light of Hochma or Hassadim. The light of Hochma is what spreads in the vessel of reception and the light of Hassadim is what spreads in the vessels of bestowal and the Klipot do not belong to bestowal, this is why they cannot be filled by the light of Hassadim; they run away from it.
30. S. (46:10) Why specifically in Katnut there is a concern for the grip of the Klipot?
R. In Katnut there is a fear of gripping because Katnut, or infancy, is a weakness, he’s got protection only over his small vessels that he has and it suddenly has a bigger will to receive that appears, he has nothing to protect himself with and therefore, Katnut is a problematic state.
31. S. (46:46) What protects us from the Klipot?
R. The Creator, as long as we are not in spirituality, the Creator protects us and we exist only thanks to His protection.
32. S. (47:06) Can we say that each friend is a letter and when we connect we create a word?
R. No, I would not put it this way but sometimes this is what happens.
33. S. (47:26) Are those letters coming to correct us and how can we draw them in order to come closer to what the Creator is revealing for us?
R. We will work on it and get closer to building letters out of our desires and in this way connect the letters and desires into words and sentences and so forth. Yes, it is written about it, ‘write on the tablet of your heart,’ meaning, we have to write the entire book on our heart, our desire.
34. S. (48:17) The letters are forces and qualities that exist in nature, what qualities are we speaking of, can we expand on this?
R. Reception and bestowal.
35. S. (48:31) Can the MAN of the lower one get stuck on the way to the upper one and some of the worlds and if so why?
R. We will learn about it in the appropriate time, it is still so premature.
36. S. (48:52) Can we say that all of creation is a combination of the letters and the perfect unification of them is the Torah?
R. Correct.
37. S. (49:13) Earlier you said that the letters are inside of us and that we need to arrange them in such a way that we will be able to write, what is the meaning of writing?
R. Writing means that we, out of our egoistic desires, we restrict them, make a connection, an altruistic connection between them; this is called writing. That’s it.
38. S. (50:00) When we learn about the letters, are they growing our vessels?
R. Of course, every spiritual act increases or magnifies the vessel.
39. S. (50:26) Is studying the Zohar brings inner order among the desires and a greater ability to overcome the will to receive?
R. Excellent, correct.
Reading Item Number 29. (51:00) “ the letter Nun entered..”
40. R. (58:08) In other words, we see that with the quality of the letter Nun it’s impossible to even approach the correction of the world.
41. S. (58:38) Why all the Kabbalists and all the books of Kabbalah, why are the books written with letters and why didn’t the Kabbalists write without letters, why not just a white page?
R. White is just pure upper light, you cannot see anything and we see only on the contradiction between the black and the white and therefore, this is how they write and how they mark a letter is a sign, such as the letter. It stems from having two forces in our world: forces of reception and forces of bestowal and accordingly the light of aHassidim and the light of Hochma and therefore, when we use what we have, as a result, an offshoot of the interaction between those two forces.
42. S. (59:52) Is the deficiency of the friends like the lack of connection between the letters? That’s why we need to pray for the Creator to connect the letters between the friends?
R. No, we should not get confused with this. We will learn everything in its proper place and when we come to these things we will have a real understanding, otherwise we will simply get kind of entangled and confused.
43. S. (01:00:45) Do the letters take shape in the same way inside of us? Each letter in the same way and how does that happen exactly as a result of the environment?
R. What we say about shapes of letters describes how it is depicted in us in our vessels, our vision in this world or black over white but how it happens in spirituality we will discover it, it is Hassadim and Hochma and then we will see how connected they are with one another.
44. S. (01:01:40) We read in the Zohar about the exalted state in which to come close to. What should be the correct prayer to come closer to this exalted state? What should be the prayer about in order to cleave to the Zohar?
R. A prayer should be about connection as we’ve been saying for many years there’s no reason to be confused and to add confusion here.
45. S. (01:02:55) You talked about Hochma and Hassadim and then it sounded like you also said bestowal and reception, what does it mean that Hassadim is reception?
R. Hassadim is not reception, the light of Hassadim is the light of bestowal, we will learn it.
46. S. (01:03:20) Is there meaning in reading the text in Hebrew or in another language and when we use Hebrew with those words and properly we corrupt the influence and bring more bad influence to the world?
R. No, by this we don’t influence anything neither for better or for worse.
S. Is there any meaning to reading the text in Hebrew or other languages?
R. No, of course in Hebrew it’s closer to the source and to some extent it influences more but that’s not for us.
47. S. (01:04:15) Would it have been possible for us to learn about creation and learn about the qualities without letters?
R. Impossible, we are learning everything through letters, through signs.
48. S. (01:04:50) We’re talking about letters and the effect that the letters give us but the Zohar was written in Aramaic and that’s something different than Hebrew letters and is that also different in the form of lights and how should we work with this if it’s Aramaic or Hebrew?
R. It’s still irrelevant for us but the question has merit because Aramaic is opposite from Hebrew. In other words, there is the Panim or the anterior, and then there’s the back or the posterior so Hebrew is the face and the posterior is Aramaic is the opposite from Hebrew. This is why the majority of books were written in Aramaic not only the Zohar, all the books of that time.
S. Does it change how we work with it, let’s say we need to invert..?
R. No, no, no, no, no,don’t get into these things. It is totally not true and far from us. We don’t need to be so attached to the letters. We need to find these letters within us in our desires and to turn them into the right order and according to the right order of our own qualities, evolve in this way. This is called writing the book of Torah on our hearts, on our desires.
49. S. (01:06:52) About writing the Zohar on one’s heart, why do we need other books of Kabbalah, if we need to write the Torah?
R. No, they somehow compliment it and for those who can’t settle for it but in principle everything was written in the Torah. In principle no other books are needed for humanity but only to take this book and follow all of the actions it instructs to act, to do.
Reading Item Number 30. (01:07:50) “the letter Mem entered..”
50. R. (01:13:10) Aiming straight towards the Creator.
Reading continues (01:13:14) “hence the Malchut becomes a clothing of darkness..”
51. S. (01:14:44) It turns out that with the letters Mem and Lamed we cannot see that the Creator creates the world and we still have Chaf right. Well, let’s continue.
52. S. (01:15:04) I heard you say that we define the letters inside of us?
R. Well that’s still early that now I can relate to the friends. I don’t feel in myself so many ways or forms of connection with them, that’s why I supposedly don’t know the letters like a child or a baby that doesn’t know but later on as much as we connect between us so just as in our world we develop the connections our relationships.
We have a vocabulary and feelings and music and everything, same thing in forms of bestowal between us. wWe also try to bring ourselves into a language, into a state that we awaken towards one another and connect and build such connections that through them it’ll be clear to us how we can connect and relate to one another. That is just similar to the way it is in our language in the world that we find words we’re going to start finding letters and words in the language of bestowal. That is what we will see hopefully soon.
53. S. (01:17:02) In the text is talking about the end of correction. When will we be corrected when the light, when the dark turns into light will the letters disappear?
R. Yes, it’s hard to say something about it but it’s written. What letter will be in control and will rule and will be at the head of creation at the G’mar Tikkun.
54. S. (01:17:44) What’s the connection between the letters and the 613 Mitzvot?
R. I’d say that also the 613 Mitzvot are written by joining letters together.
55. S. (01:18:17) How come when Malchut wants to resemble the king she does it through ZA, why isn’t her connection direct?
R. How can Malchut connect to Keter, ZA is above her, she cannot without connecting to ZA, to reach something that’s higher than her and above ZA is already GAR. It’s forms that are completely not in Malchut, ZA is before her, He created her, ZA, that’s why when she connects to Him so she can receive some kind of key on how to connect to Bina afterwards Hochma, Keter and to GAR, that’s still before us we will learn about it.
56. S. (01:19:22) You tell us often that you cannot convey the spiritual world in the words of this world so, even if we would want to do it, it’s what sounds?
R. It’s not the matter of a combination of sounds. We don’t have the emotion that can be suitable or some signs or letters, its spiritual forces so what can we create there.
S. The state that a person is in revelation is so new that there is not that state in our world?
R. In ours it does not exist because we do not relate to one another through the quality of bestowal.
57. S. (01:20:25) When you answered before you said the shape of the letters exist in us and in spirituality. Can we understand from this that the letters that build the form of the Kli there have a suited form in spirituality?
R. Yes but I don’t know how you’re going to start imagining it now in some kind of an incorrect way that resembles the light in spirituality. It’s still early to speak about these things because we have such an imagination that it’s better not to get into it, it just distances us from the truth.
58. S. (01:21:28) With each letter we hear the love the Creator has for the creation, not wanting to leave us without support, not wanting to leave us without a king. When we have that same love for the creation that the Creator has, will that be when the Creator says, yes, I will create the world with you?
R. Yes. Nice.
59. S. (01:22:14) The letters ask that the Creator will create the world with them. What does it mean to create the world?
R. To create the world means to prepare the will to receive for the correction all the way to the end of correction.
S. Is creating the world creating the system of Adam HaRishon or the ladder system?
R. Everything you said I just don’t want to use words that you don’t understand.
S. I’m trying to understand what system should I depict?
R. Don’t depict anything, don’t depict anything, just your emotion, your feelings towards your friends and the Creator.
60. S. (01:23:16) These letters, the last letters we’ve been studying and Mem, Nun, Samech, are they related to Bina?
R. No, Nun, Mem and Samech is not the system of Bina, it’s the system of ZA.
S. I just recalled that you used to tell us about the quality of Mem as a representative of Bina.
R. Yes, that is right, because Mem is a blocked Mem, Tuma’a, it closes off 40 degrees and that’s all before us. It’s hard to speak about all this because I don’t want to use words that are not clear and confusing.
S. How can we learn this in the correct way?
R. You cannot run anywhere, you have to read it a few times and until it doesn’t settle in your head so it’s written, even if you just remember it simply, then you will start remembering and you will connect it to what you will learn about later and then this accumulation of knowledge comes and then suddenly you understand more.
61. S. (01:25:00) We know from Gematria that there is a relationship between letters and numbers. Letters are qualities for connection but does the same apply to the numbers? What is the relationship between them and do they have advantages over each other?
R. Numbers are a way to write down. It is the only way of writing and we don’t know what they belong to and it could be 30 kilos or 30 fish or 30 planes or oceans or days or whatever. The number itself doesn’t mean anything you need to connect it to something and then the number gets the essence of its weight.
62. S. (01:26:18) Why is the Creator telling the letters to go back to their place? Why is it so important for them to go back the letters are dynamic, they’re in motion, they’re changing?
R. Correct but if the letter thinks that it deserves a different place in the line of the letters so he puts her back in her place and by this He shows that the order he created is the right one.
S. To create the world with it He needs to take them out of their place and to move them somewhere else?
R. We will see, we have time to reach the end of the article.
63. S. (01:27:03) Are letters qualities of the created being?
R. Letters are qualities of the created being that awaken in the created being by the upper light.
S. And at this point there is no created being?
R. What do you mean there is no created being, there is a will to receive, that’s what we’re talking about.
S. The letters are asking to build a created being with their qualities. Right now there is no created being?
R. They want,in the created being that the Creator is now creating they want to determine their qualities.
64. S. (01:27:58) You said to another friend that you need to be with emotion towards the friends and the Creator. What does that mean?
R. We have nothing else to develop our feelings for; only the friends and the Creator. It’s actually only to the Creator but we cannot reach the Creator, only through the friends.
S. What feelings can be developed?
R. Feelings of love and connection.
S. It’s felt while reading the Zohar, the emotion but it’s not clear what to do with it.
R. Reach connection and love.
S. How by feeling the sensation of connection of love I can reach that with the friends?
R. By a mutual effort, hug, connect and you’ll see that is possible.
65. S. (01:29:33) Why is the need to understand that sharpens the sensations? Why can’t we just feel?
R. What’s the difference between a child to an older kid or a man or an elder that acquired wisdom, the difference between them is the number of feelings or emotions that each one of them perceives or carries inside of him.
S. That need is felt but why does it work that way that the understanding what it makes order in the sensation:what does the understanding do to the feeling?
R. That you can work with them when you organize your feelings correctly you can come closer to the Creator until you reach him.
S. In what do we become closer to the Creator?
R. That all your feelings will be organized towards, ‘Love your friend as yourself’ and by that you’ll receive a form like the Creator, that is in the love of others; the complete love of others.
S. Are there words for love?
R. For love there’s actually we will read about it afterwards but truly there are no words, even in laws of countries, it’s written that courts and so on they don’t understand love. Love is something that we do not understand. It’s even accepted by people that we cannot understand the measure of love, what it really is. What does it mean that I love, explain that to me? You can take all the words in the world, all the letters, whatever you want, all poetry, all music, whatever you want you won’t be able to express what love is.
S. Now that we learned the Zohar together like you said to connect among each other and to the Creator there’s this ongoing flow of love?
R. Yes, it’s a certain expression of love correct but it’s not that we can really express it. That’s only in G’mar Tikkun. The expression of the love of the Creator towards created beings is by giving the created beings in the same way the ability to love Him that’s expressed only at G’mar Tikkun. That’s called, ‘that they the Lord will be one and his name will be one.’
S. The Zohar, Rabbi Shimon and Baal HaSulam, they brought something. What did they insert into it, love?
R. Of course, they put letters in there. They elaborated on it but they also put distance between us and the Creator between us and love between us in the upper light but with this distance there are degrees so then we can see where we are and if we’re getting closer; there cannot be one without the other.
66. S. (01:33:52) Why did every letter come to the Creator and convince him to create the world with them? The Creator already knew which one?
R. Yes, but there was a need. The Creator doesn’t move, He’s the light of Ein Sof, He has no deficiency. He wants to love but there’s no one to do it and so on, meaning there has to be a demand on behalf of the lower one here and then the upper one can respond.
67. S. (01:34:27) What does it mean to find the letters within us? How can we find these letters in us?
R. For that we need to dig in our hearts. When I love someone, I try to think what for, what it’ll be from this and what he has for me. How we can be connected, how we connect? What do I get, what do we get from the connection between us? Why the connection between us? Whatever form it will take, why it will give us a new existence. That it’s not in me or in my friend it cannot happen unless in the state that we’re together and that when we connect in such a way that we cannot divide, we cannot be divided in that mutual area that is established above all disturbances, all differences, all rejections, why and that new matter that mutual matter that has connection along with all the rejection and hatred there still is, if we still connect we attain in the connection, we attain the whole connection and what expands in it, what fills it, that’s called love. That’s something that we cannot pass on from man-to-man; only from heart to heart.
68. S. (01:36:33) What is the correct method to learn the letters in order to not develop any false imaginations?
R. Only connection with the friends that’s where we can see that we’re not ready for the connection and that all our words are dead, but along with that we will try and move ahead and connect more and more at least in a deficiency that we feel that we still have day-to-day we have more and more of the deficiency for it.
69. S. (01:37:16) The letters came to arrange the universe. Are some letters more important than others?
R. No, for speaking about the complete connection there’s no letter which is less than the others or greater than the others because they’re all important.
70. S. (01:37:44) You said the Aleph is the first and Lamed is the last. Isn’t Tav the last?
R. No, the last word in the Torah is Israel and ends with Lamed.
71. S. (01:38:00) What do we need to rely on in the ten? Nun, Samech or what?
R. That’s still too early to learn these things, we will learn them from our doing, we’ll feel it and be able to locate every letter and every sound. Don’t worry you will reach a state that the whole world will play music for you, it’ll play music as David’s harp.
72. S. (01:38:43) You said that expression of the love of the Creator is only in the final correction. I want to ask in the states that we’re in anger or separation between us and then we overcome and we feel love and gratitude to the Creator. Is that true love? Is that only to develop a true deficiency, what is that feeling of love that we do feel?
R. We feel men and women, some kind of Illumination from a distance that is about to fill our will to receive and that illumination is what we want to bring closer; that’s what we love. That’s what we love, we love our will to receive when it is being filled with some kind of Illumination from above. It’s completely not the same state we are reading about in the Zohar. But we will get closer to it and will get closer to it and see.
73. S. (01:40:11) We’re used to seeing the letters as certain symbols which are lifeless. In the article here we see that the letters have a desire and a yearning and demand. What turns the letters into life letters?
R. That the person feels them, that he wants to express his tendency towards the friends through some kind of clear sign, this or that, so by this he also starts feeling gradually it takes time to start to feel the letters.
74. S. (01:41:01) The letters remind our prayer, our discussion with the Creator, and the Creator says yes, the prayer is nice but there’s something missing? Is that how it is?
R. Yes, something like that.
75. S. (01:41:40) We spoke about love and if you search online then you find a definition from the New Testament that love covers everything, can we use that for us as well or is love only bestowal?
R. I don’t know the New Testament and I don’t use it. I don’t know. I know that there’s the Torah and I base myself on that because the Zohar and all other books are written according to the Torah; as we say the Torah of Moses.
76. S. (01:42:40) Is there a difference between love and Arvut?
R. We are not learning these things yet the relations between the different qualities because in that we will just completely get confused. There’s a connection. Yes, there is, what kind I don’t know. We cannot learn it for now for now for us, no.
77. S. (01:43:15) It says that in the book that Kabbalists inserted the light that reforms which is a remedy: what is that?
R. How did they do it? By writing sentences, if we read the same sentences and think during the reading that we want to sanctify ourselves with the same force that they put into the words. I don’t know what the words are, I don’t know the forces, you can read in a language that you don’t even understand or feel, it doesn’t matter. The main thing is that you want to get forces from this and then the text influences you, it bestows upon you and with it you grow.
S. You said that we can’t express love in words, in the book but the light can. What’s the difference between the light that reforms and the love?
R. There’s a difference between me extracting words and letters or receiving them from the Creator; that He is entirely love. The Creator, the quality of the Creator, the main quality that includes everything is love.
78. S. (01:44:54) You said to my friend that you cannot describe the letters correctly yet. In the meantime can we say that writing our words at our level is revealing the deficiency and love of the friends between us?
R. Yes but when do we write these letters? When we yearn for connection, love, bestowal even though we’re not in it yet but we yearn for it. All these things also reveal our lack in this as much as we’re not in connection in love and bestowal. And then all these feelings, tendencies towards the deficiencies, everything, they build the forms of the letters in us. Good luck.
79. S. (01:46:13) I will continue this sentence, you said it builds in us the form of the letters so now the question is: when I see that I don’t have a certain good quality towards the friend that is the place where I need to find this gap, this lack that I need to ask for?
R. Correct.
80. S. (01:46:40) By the letters wanting to create the world does that show how large and uncorrected the ego is?
R. Yes.
81. S. (01:46:58) You spoke now about love that we accept it as light but our will to receive enjoys. How can we reach love that it will be important for us not what we receive but who we receive from?
R. I have nothing to tell you you have to scrutinize it. It has to be important to me who I am receiving from and for that I have to long to be with the one who I’m bestowing towards. That is it. We’re done with this. Let’s go to the second part of the lesson.
