GRACE ON THE FIRST SHABBAT MEAL

BLESSINGS ON MEALS

-by Rav Michael Laitman

Question: What is behind the blessing before and after a meal? Does it somehow help with digestion?

Answer: It does help. Since we exist within the same system and are tied through it to the source of our life, to the upper world, then the correct attitude toward food, toward the upper Light, toward all of humanity, toward our common Kli (vessel of the soul) brings us into sync with all the levels of this vast system.

Therefore, blessing means that I understand where I am, what I am doing, what action I am performing, what result I am hoping to achieve. A blessing before and after a meal, regardless of the words that I use or whom I address, allows me to correctly integrate myself into the general system, and thus to be able to get aligned with the right flow of the forces of nature. Later on you begin to feel it strongly.
