Baal HaSulam. Introduction to the Book Panim Meirot uMasbirot. #13
Item #13 (00:09) “Now you can understand the need for…”
1. S. (07:59) He says that the Sitra Achra also wants the abundance and what would it take only the last vacant phase. Why does the Sitra Achra need light?
R. How can she hold the vessels?
S. So we receive it on purpose in order to correct?
R. With the intention of in order to receive you receive some lights to the system of the Sitra Achra and this is what holds you, it keeps you holding in the Sitra Achra.
S. But why do I need to keep holding it?
R. To have the ability to overcome the connection with it and move it onto the system of Holiness.
S. What is the Sitra Achra actually?
R. Your ego?
S. So I need the ego so I can work on it?
R. Of course, this is what connects you to your egoistic force by you receiving fulfillments from there.
S. But not everyone has the same ego right?
R. Both more and less.
S. What’s the reason for it for a soul?
R. Yes, that’s from the root of the soul, yes, the more a person is greater, his egoistic desire is greater and the lights that come to him through the Sitra Achra are greater, yes, what can you do? That’s how it is.
2. S. (10:10) It’s written here that before the shattering, before the sin of Adam HaRishon so the reality was conducted by the system of Holiness?
R. All the Upper lights came down to the will to receive from the Creator to the will to receive and they weren’t desires in order to receive, everything was in a small amount but whole. That’s how Adam HaRishon is called prior to the sin, with the ego in the system called Adam has not yet been revealed.
S. How could it be that there’s a reality without the will to receive?
R. In the degrees of the still, vegetative and animate you have desires just to sustain themselves, not on account of others, not in order to do bad to others but only to sustain oneself. You have many such creatures in the world and that’s why we’re not saying that they have an evil inclination. Evil inclination is when you enjoy doing bad to someone else but if you’re not doing bad, real bad to someone else it’s not considered that you have an evil inclination, all you do is that you sustain yourself.
S. In spirituality, in that system, what does it mean that there’s no will to receive?
R. In spirituality when there’s no, that there’s no will to receive and that’s it, it doesn’t want to receive, doesn’t feel he wants to receive. He’s not aware of it, the fact that the will to receive exists, it exists, it is the matter of creation, even the baby has a will to receive but do you really consider it a will to receive, no, he doesn’t activate it, he doesn’t do someone something bad to someone else, he’s just like that.
S. After the shattering I just want to understand what is the evil that appeared after the shattering, what is it? The parts of Adam HaRishon had a desire for that didn’t exist before?
R. Will learn that soon, the shattering of the vessels, that the will to receive was not in order to receive. Meaning when I want to enjoy and to receive through someone, that’s why we don’t call this desire an egoistic desire, it’s like in the still, vegetative and animate or with people who are in such degrees of still, vegetative and animate. That they don’t want to use others to enjoy for instance, a lion that ate a rabbit, for instance, so does it want to do bad to this rabbit, no. It just wants to eat, that’s all, it has no relation to the other trying to do something bad to another that’s why he does something. That’s how it is with many people in the human society, they are not aware of the reason they are doing it, if they are not doing intentionally something bad to another, to do something bad for another, to be a bit higher than him, to seemingly control him, if they don’t do that they’re in the still, vegetative, and animate level. Humans are considered to be humans if they have a will to receive and they want to exploit others.
S. That was before the shattering of the spiritual system?
R. Yes, so the will to receive in the still, vegetative and animate has developed and then in the speaking level. Even in the speaking level there was a time when they were not ashamed of the will to receive because there was no need to hide it, what I wanted to do was use others, exploit them, that’s why this is how they lived.
3. S. (15:55) Why the thirty-two parts of Malchut are not considered Kedusha?
R. Because the entire Malchut is the will to receive and according to how much we use the will to receive in order to bestow or in order to receive, accordingly we determine that the degree of the created being, the will to receive in itself, is not good or bad. It’s the will to receive however in relation to the other, only in relation to others, with respect to others do we determine its degree, its essence. Because the Creator, he determines to me as according to others, he does good to others and the will to receive in a person, as much as he does good, we see that he only does good to himself, he’s the opposite of the Creator and then our whole work is to bring the will to receive in man to identify itself with the Creator, to be in equivalence of form.
Reading item #14: (17:30) “Now we have found the opening of the above…”
4. R. (24:34) I understand that it’s very difficult and distant from what we’re in right now but gradually we will go through it in little portions, and you will see that there really is no problem here as usual. That if we want to grasp some big system, big machine, or something, we don’t know where to start from many parts, many names and so on. But really there’s nothing difficult here, only a lot of names, words, states that we just have to know about but it’s actually us inside. That’s why as much as we advance we will know these things that they exist in us inside, for now let’s leave it as it is.
